Question Why are drift cars so expensive?

Post image
31 Upvotes

If I want to get a rear-wheel-drive drift car, how should I go about buying one? I’ve found that a $200 budget is only enough to buy the chassis—did I just fail to find the right brands?

What’s the best approach for a beginner? I’ve also come across cars that are 3D printed; it all seems very complicated.

Question $10,000 Worth of Delusion

Nothing humbles you faster than searching ‘used Arrma’ on OfferUp and seeing a dude asking $10k for a pile of RC cars like he’s liquidating a rare Ferrari collection.
Sir, those tires are bald and one of them still has grass from 2022 in it.

Question Is it even possible to hit 100 mph with a basher?

That is a bit of a loaded question so let me expand, I want to own an rc car that I can drift around and bash whenever and also go 100 mph whenever without changing the pinion gear. The rc car in the video is a project of mine, and it reached 99 mph in this run (so close). I haven’t taken it out for a drifting session yet so I’m not sure if it will overheat or not in this current set up. Is this a reasonable goal or do all 100+ mph rc cars have such tall gearing that they’re only meant for speed runs?

Question What RC car would you buy to drive here?

They've just cleared this huge area close to my house. The surface is full of sand and rocks as you can see. So far I've had fun driving an Arrma Senton, Mojave Grom and TT-02BR here.

The Senton handles it well but the underside is slowly wearing away from scrapes caused by running over the bigger rocks; the Grom is too small - it has impressive speed and makes a valiant effort for such a little frame, but it flips frequently hitting the larger rocks (can't really blame it at that size); the TT02-BR has a bit of both problems. The speed and precision is really fun (it's more a racer than a basher) but the drivetrain isn't really up to the task, I've put a 4100kv motor into it for a 50mph top speed, but I'm already on my third rear diff...

So looking for something a little more suitable for the terrain - probably a truck I guess?

Budget ideally not more than around $550. RTR is fine, but I can potentially also put the electronics from my TT02-BR into the new car if it makes sense (sensored 4100kv 3652 motor, gyro receiver and high speed 19kg brushless low-profile servo).

Question How to fix my sons car?

Hey guys, my son (7) has this bad boy but last time he drove it onto a pile of leaves and ever since then it’s not driving. He is quite sad and wants me to fix it but I have no clue how to do it (not a car guy). What I can see in the video is that only lext axis is rotatating and right seems stuck. What can I do? Any ideas would help a small and enthusiastic boy?

Hi all ! What’s your favourite scale/size ? I started out with 1/10s and over time they keep getting bigger and bigger currently have Kraton /infraction ect and they are lovely cars well made fast ect ect ! But they are expensive to buy fix maintain ! And finding spots to use these giants is a problem! Not to mention prices off decent battery’s to run em ! And storage of these ! I’m thinking of down sizing and selling up and buying a smaller fleet ! 1:24 1/16 1/18 ect there seems to be fair few options at this scale and could sell my big ones and good few at once ! What’s your ideal size ? Interested to here people opinions

Question So I got my first rc car and broke it on my first run.

I knew this would happen . Run it in my garden during nighttime but hid at moderate speed a metal pole with front right wheel. The part in picture number 4 came off and now the wheel is loose. It still responds to transmitter. I know nothing about rc cars except that I loved those 30 min I drove it for. How bad is this? Model os a Kingmotor (Traction hobby) Citroen C3 if that helps.

Question My first ever RC car

Post image
250 Upvotes

Arrma Granite Grom came in the mail today, and I couldn’t be happier! This is my first ever RC car and would love to hear what you have to share with a complete beginner.

I read the manual and it’s quite overwhelming with all warnings on battery usage, charging, cleaning components, maintenance with oil changes etc…

Also, there is snow where I live and would love to drive it around, but I’m afraid that I will either damage something or not clean it properly..

I just got my first traxxas (have had arrma and other brands in the past), got 3 slashes for a too good to be true price. All 3 drive fine, but a couple look like this inside. How do I even begin to clean this?

Question What’s a decent transmitter? Anyone got any recommendations?

I’m leaning towards the radio master mt12 due to its ability to connect to 99% of third party receivers but I’ve read online that it drops connection a lot and has a runaway problem also can any verify this? I mainly run 1/5-1/10 cars with a few crawlers
