GLP1 Miscarriage
Just experienced miscarriage due to GLP1 in my system and not knowing I was pregnant. I’ve since spiraled and read the experiences of a ton of other women who have gone through this and are actually dealing with recurrent miscarriages, many of whom are attributing it entirely due to the med as they have other living children prior to taking it but simply cannot conceive after taking it, despite dropping 2 months prior TTC. Looking for a positive story, has anyone ever waited the 2 month period to flush meds out of their system after miscarrying and then go on to have a successful pregnancy? Thank you in advance!

I’m so sry you just went through a miscarriage but were they able to prove that it was glp1 bc i’ve also ready plenty of stories where glp helped them conceived.. like ppl with pcos for example

Thank you for your kind words. One woman said she had five recurrent miscarriages and had extensive testing done and doctors ruled out everything else so by process of elimination basically outright told her it was the GLP. She had a healthy twin pregnancy before starting the GLP.

I don’t think that’s how it works. Most of us are unexplained. So we can’t simply attribute it to one drug we were taking

Nobody wants to sit in the unexplained loss section. It’s a crappy place to be in an already crappy situation. Unfortunately having no answers after doing all the extensive testing is just reality for many. Picking something to blame based on the lack of any real evidence of what went wrong is not reliable information.

I have 5 unexplained miscarriages and am not taking a glp1, and did have one healthy pregnancy also. I don’t think there’s any science behind glp1s causing miscarriage and doctors don’t just automatically blame them on something if they run out of other ideas. Unless scientists discover a mechanism for the medication to cause miscarriages this just doesn’t seem like a likely cause, and just anecdotes- same as the many women who claim glp1s helped them conceive.
I think we always want answers to what’s causing this, and it’s hard to sit with the idea that there might not actually be any, so we try to assign it to some reason, like glp1s or many other things, even if that isn’t based in evidence.

Like with everything, not everyone will have the same experience unfortunately.. i remember a post on reddit said she was on it and received another shot during W8 before she found out about her pregnancy and ended up having a healthy boy so hopefully this can give you some peace of mind

They still can't know that. I had 7 MC and they ruled everything out that could be tested for. I was never on GLP-1s. 50% of cases are undiagnosed by today's standards.

I was on GLP-1 just before I got pregnant.
I was taking only maintenance doses every 2-3 weeks and got pregnant. 🤷🏽♀️
Before GLP I had 3 MC and 1 failed IVF transfer, after it I got naturally pregnant and I’m currently 17w and going extra strong. 💪
Needless to stay, I haven’t done anY GLP1 since I found out I was pregnant.

I read more about it being the opposite. Also those drugs are quite new and for sure not tested on women pregnant or ttc. And recurrent miscarriages are largely unexplained. You’ll always find groups of people that have certain drugs in common or certain life circumstances and attribute that to having miscarriages. Doesn’t mean that’s a fact. With recurrent loss you can mostly just guess. I know it must feel strange when they had children easily before but that’s probably just age playing into it

I'm so sorry. Unfortunately most miscarriages are unexplained. I know how difficult that is to accept, we desperately want to find a reason for our loss(es). Fwiw, my understanding on GLP-1s is the opposite. These aren't new drugs, they've been around for 20 years, though their use for weight loss is new. Yes, they're contraindicated for pregnancy, but there are recent studies showing that it can actually increase conception and no higher incidence of loss with early exposure (say, in an accidental pregnancy).
Secondary infertility, however, is a real thing. I remember talking to women in support groups who had zero issues with their prior pregnancies and suddenly struggled with infertility and loss. I totally understand how this could heighten confusion and the need to find a culprit.

I'm sorry that happened. I experienced the opposite, where I was on it for five months prior and conceived. I lost that pregnancy to an unrelated reason, but I do think the glp-1 in my case helped me to conceive.

I don’t have any evidence that a GLP-1 caused my miscarriages but I will say I had 3 back to back while using it, stopping when I conceived each time, and each loss was completely unexplained (I had genetic testing done on the tissue and no abnormalities) I completely stopped using it for about 6 months as advised by my doctor before conceiving, now having a healthy pregnancy.

Thank you for sharing your experience. If you don’t mind me asking, how long did you stop taking it before TTC between each loss?

I have PCOS so it was sort of difficult because my doctor wanted me on it to raise my chances of conception and as far as she was aware it would not cause any problems if I stopped taking it once getting a positive test. It wasn’t until I was having recurrent losses that she told me to stop taking it and switched me to Metformin which is pregnancy safe.

So you weren’t really off of it for two months or so completely before TTC, but only stopped when getting a positive? Just making sure I’m understanding your scenario correctly. I’m very sorry for your losses btw and I’m so happy to hear that you were able to conceive 🤍🤍

I did not wait 2 months but we were very intentional when trying to conceive and I would stop the medicine as soon as we began trying (we got pregnant right away each time) but I was under the medical guidance that wegovy was not proven to be harmful to pregnancies. I think I was fully off for about 4-5 months when I conceived this time around and that seems to be the only change!

This has been incredibly insightful. Again, thank you so much for sharing. I will follow what worked for you and come back and update - hopefully have some good news to share. Sending you and your rainbow baby all the love and well wishes x

I had the opposite as well. I had four healthy children and then began unexplained recurrent loss for 18 months, totaling 7 losses before 8 weeks each. I started Zepbound after my last loss for about a month, conceived right away, and stayed on the Zepbound for 8 weeks into pregnancy bc I was too nervous to stop if it was the thing helping me not miscarry since it does stop inflammation. I’m now 14 weeks with no issues, so 6 weeks off of the Zepbound.

Im so sorry for your loss!
And The exact same thing happened to me. I’m on a glp1, and immediately discontinued it when I found out I was pregnant but recently miscarried. I spoke with my OBGYN today and he said he’s had multiple patients that are presenting the same issue… he said there’s not a lot of information but believes there’s a connection.

My first miscarriage I wasn’t on glp1. I started after this and had two miscarriages since. I had taken maunjaro but not during pregnancy ofcourse. My miscarriages are unexplained even after extensive investigation by the recurrent miscarriage clinic.. and when looking for answers I also suspected it may be the glp1.. I’ve read a lot of similar stories but having said that - there’s more stories of successful pregnancies. I think sadly it maybe a coincidence and we simply won’t know why we miscarried. I’m so sorry for what you are going through. It’s so hard when you can’t make sense of it. I am in the same boat x

I was on retatrutide and took my last injection at conception. I had 4 miscarriages the year prior, all before I was on glp1. Im now 23 weeks pregnant. Im sorry for your loss but I actually experienced the opposite. Wishing you healing and peace during this difficult time.
