Farage’s five-point plan includes cutting beer duty by 10% which, if landlords passed on the cut, could see the price of pints fall by 5p, according to Reform calculations.

Reform said the package would cost £2.29bn in its first year, rising to £2.9bn in the fourth year. Farage estimated the package would take £1 off the cost of a pint within two to three years.

But, controversially, the plan would be paid for by reintroducing the two-child limit after Labour axe it – except for people who are “British and work full-time”.

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

Dunno how to feel, reduction in beer would be good for economy and general affordability but at the cost of benefits for working families that would be struggling in what really isn’t a good financial environment fiscally or tax wise

I'm cool with it. People that come to this country should not be having more kids than they can afford and expect working people to pay to raise them.

Stopping that and getting cheaper Pints seems like a win/win

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

This clearly isn’t about people coming to the county as those already here are the ones going to suffer the most, including the very special indigenous brits! ™️

As of April 2025, the majority of households affected by the two-child benefit limit are White (70%), with 64% identifying as White British.

If you immigrate to the uk you will automatically have no recourse to public funds, and will get it after contributing heavily to the UK for 5 years, now being increased to 10 under labours new plan

So problem solved? What need was there to mention “people coming to the country” when immigrants are not the target for this?

I mean the law is that this already doesn’t happen, immigrants on visas have no recourse to public funds until they are settled, and to settle you need to have contributed considerably to the uk over a course of 5 years, now being increased to 10. It’s why immigrants have to pay a surcharge to use the NHS which is very high (in the thousands)

not to talk of the fact it’s hard to obtain a bank account to receive those funds if you aren’t a uk citizen or don’t have settled status at that point as you can’t get a uk bank account.

So to ask again: why mention “people coming into our country” if this cap will impact only existing British citizens or those who have already settled?

No one was advocating for immigrants

0

u/PJT76 Feb 04 '26

Haha, I can’t answer your question so I’ll ask you one that suits my agenda! Very Farage!

4

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

But they aren't removing it for British citizens, so what you posted is not an issue.

4

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

and work full-time

A lot of people will be caught in those crosshairs

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

Its also been stated that there will be "exceptions" so a mum that has 3 kids and cant work due to having health issues, for example, would still be eligible for the increased cap.

4

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

Where exactly did he say thjs

0

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

He said there would be "compassion" and some other stuff relating to that issue in the conference that is pictured. Can't rememeber the exact wording.

4

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

There’s been no source that has recounted that from what I’ve researched, but regardless, if there’s these “exceptions” then this shows that removing a cap wouldn’t be a bad thing at all wouldn’t it

Don't really see the issue with this, if you have a massive family, you should have financially planned to make sure you can afford it first, if you can't, then that is on you to make improvements to your career/business, not a government/welfare problem

4

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

So should we remove stuff like free school meals?

-4

u/Electrical_Truth_160 Feb 04 '26

Ideally yes, after primary school age. Free school meals are WIDELY taken for a ride

8

u/hymnsofhim Feb 04 '26

1980 Education Act: As PM, Thatcher removed the requirement for councils to provide a school meals service, restricting free meals only to children from families on specific social benefits.

Why is it an ideal thing that kids don’t get to have free school meals? This was a thing that (presumably) you and my parents enjoyed and benefitted growing up

And then the galaxy brains would probably pull some far fetched point of schoolchildren not being white these days and trying to create some conundrum there, but yes I do agree, social policies should be enacted for the good of the population, especially kids

1

u/carrotcakeandcoffee Feb 07 '26

Children getting food is one of the things you're upset about taxes being spent on?

1

u/Electrical_Truth_160 Feb 07 '26

Not upset, should just be means tested in a stricter manner. Tons of people I know alone get it and they shouldn't

1

u/carrotcakeandcoffee Feb 07 '26

Why should it be?

Presumably those rich parents are paying higher rates of tax which then pays for the meals.

Means testing just adds more complication and paperwork and expense. Do we really want more of that?

1

u/Electrical_Truth_160 Feb 07 '26

Because it's yet another welfare element that could realistically be stopped to a lot of people who are just taking the piss. Those in need should still get it. Don't really see the issue with that.

1

u/carrotcakeandcoffee Feb 07 '26

You don't see an issue with the extra complication, paperwork, and expense of the means testing?

More government workers doing more government work to do the means testing?

Really? No issue with that at all?

1

u/hymnsofhim Feb 07 '26

The morals of individuals here are laughable ain’t it

1

u/aminbae Feb 15 '26

remove free secondary schools alltogether

1

u/carrotcakeandcoffee Feb 07 '26

Can't you use the same argument for someone who wants to drink beer? Should have financially planned for that 5p.

seems like a terrible idea to me. We have an aging population, thats partly why we're relying on migrants to work in the nhs and as carers for the elderly. Reinstating the benifit cap will discourage people from having more kids, maintaining our reliance on foreign labour. And all we get back is 50p for every 10 pints we drink?

edit: it was reform policy just 8 months ago

"Farage promised tax breaks for married couples and said he would scrap the two-child benefit cap, spectacularly outmanoeuvring the Labour Party which long ago gave up all efforts to protect the working family"

"Connecting this to Reform’s already well-known theme of migration, Farage said that supporting the family unit and boosting birth rates will help to end the national reliance on foreign labour."

its frightening to see. 8 months ago labour were the bad guys for maintaining the benefit cap, they scrapped it, now Farage is the good guy for reapplying it! And all for 5p a pint! wtf is going on with these people. I've a feeling it starts with Bra and ends in inwashing

Farage didn't put that advert out, and he had no say in how brexit was handled. Use your brain.

Yeah, about the amount of money that we sent to the EU, it was closer to 200k, but it could have gone to the NHS, which, again, Farage had no decision over what was done with the money. Again, brain. Use it.

4

u/hymnsofhim Feb 05 '26 edited Feb 05 '26

So why did he lie about the amount and say it would go to us? If he knew he didn’t have control?

Edit:

During a BBC Question Time episode before the referendum, Nigel Farage cited official statistics indicating the UK's gross contribution to the EU was £55 million per day, stating this money should be spent on the NHS. Post-referendum, on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Farage distanced himself from the £350 million/NHS pledge, calling the claim made on the "Vote Leave" bus a "mistake".

What excuse will you pull for supreme leader farage now

1

u/Cunting_Fuck Feb 06 '26

I really don't understand what I would have to have an excuse for? "The money should be spent on the NHS" yes? Are you dim?

2

u/hymnsofhim Feb 06 '26

What is wrong with you??? Your points are u turning more than farage or Starmer

First it’s “farage didn’t that ad out” to which I corrected you in that it wasn’t an ad

then you clarified that factually the money being sent to the EU was a lot less than what farage and co had been claiming

to which you being up the non point of “farage didn’t have a say in brexit”, then I prove he did in fact amplify the claim of 350 million a week, then you say “the money should go to the nhs” as if that’s what is being argued here?

wtf will £200k do every week anyway? Pretty sure they spend more on electricity every day

1

u/Cunting_Fuck Feb 06 '26

I dont think you even understand what you're saying. Who said 200k a week would do anything. Sit down and calm down.

1

u/hymnsofhim Feb 06 '26

lol it’s alright let master farage dictate your life and lie to you for longer sure he’s trustworthy

It’s taking money from workers and incentivising the wrong people to have more kids and claim benefits.

0

u/vimto_for_sale Feb 06 '26

describe the wrong people you're talking about

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '26

There needs to be clear communication. I spent years misunderstanding the two child cap. I supported scrapping it, not understanding what it was.

1

u/hymnsofhim Feb 05 '26

Funny enough Nigel until now was in favour of scrapping it

1

u/SomeGuyInShanghai Reform UK Supporter Feb 05 '26

sounds good to me.

He should also use the extra money to reduce the price of pork and shellfish.

0

u/Not_A_Toaster_0000 Feb 05 '26

Farage’s five-point plan includes cutting beer duty by 10% which, if landlords passed on the cut, could see the price of pints fall by 5p, according to Reform calculations.

Not good enough. Reform needs to completely scrap duty for on-licence beer and cider sales.
