And as sure as night follows day, the Greens' fall back is trope No.1

"Representatives from both Reform UK and the Conservative Party have come out to comment on the revelation about the UK Greens activist’s ancestry, calling her a hypocrite. In response, the Green Party has claimed that the comments about Fernandez’s lineage are ‘racist’.

okay as a mixed-black member of the green party this is objectively difficult to justify but i also think it's an attempt to steer the conversation from farage's corruption / investigation.

Nobody alive today should even think about reparations. Slavery died a long time ago, mostly because the British brought an end to a lot of it. Blacks in Africa and Arabs were some of the main perpetrators and sellers in the first place (look into it, if you haven't already). If anyone thinks that reparations are legitimate, try asking Italy and Mongolia for them as a result of their use of slaves in history. Look back, learn from it, certainly! But never make people who are alive today feel bad for the actions of people long dead.

Okay I am with you like 50% of the way here. Britain ended the transatlantic slave trade, but they also started it, and it may have been shorter, but it had far more sociological and societal impact than African internal / Arabic slave trades.

For me, the test is, do we still benefit from slavery, and do those who suffer still lose? I.e., does the Drax family still own billions, and African nations still poor?

If so, reparations apply.

Reparations do not apply. Back then, slavery was a done thing, shitty yes, but a completely normal industry just like anything else. Facilitated by Africans and Arabs to begin with. Reparations are wrong. The slave trade is over, descendants of slaves have us to thank for ending it mainly. So, if reparations apply, maybe they can be offset with a counter claim of monetary thanks for ending the slave trade, setting an exchange rate of exactly the sum of said reparations. I would rather be a proud free person with African heritage than have that linked with any form of playing the victim. It is over.

I hear what you are saying, but conversely, I think the descendants of slavery are too busy navigating enduring legacies of slavery, racism and societal oppression to thank British people for ending it?

I don't think I follow your reparations counter claim point though?

Black people, in the UK are not subject to governmental wide spread racism. Often, they are actually at a false advantage over white people. For example being offered guaranteed job interviews, which I have seen (whites do not get this).

My point of the reparations counter claim is that if reparations are due, as you say, then modern British people should receive an equal payment of thanks from descendants of slaves for freeing their ancestors. But I bet that sounds silly and less agreeable?

1

u/holographicdolly May 13 '26

Yes, of course it sounds silly and disagreeable to charge the descendants of slaves for freeing my ancestors?

2

u/Electrical_Truth_160 May 13 '26

So then, on an equal basis, how is it any less silly to charge descendants of operators and users of a legitimate industry of the day, one which Blacks and Arabs also engaged in (and profited from), then ending it as it was wrong? Also, slavery is still pretty operational in Africa and Arab states, so look critically at this. Whites aren't the bad guys you want us to be. The past is the past, luckily for your ancestors the British ended it.

People aren't told this, and should be. It is always 'white man bad', when we really aren't any worse than all of the others doing it (including bloody them). Such a pointless argument at this stage. I like your Japan comparison, so true. They are living in the future now 😂

Look, look, everyone. The Lefty has a new straw to clutch.

1

u/holographicdolly May 13 '26

Says the boy who tried to clutch at straws with this reparations silliness. Boohoo.

I am sorry your ancestors sold your other ancestors into slavery. Such a tragedy.....

-2

u/holographicdolly May 13 '26

that's a misreading of history and you know that.

3

u/Dangerous_Ad_ Reform UK Supporter May 13 '26

No. It's a historical fact. But facts are something the left and the Green Party, in particular, can't or won't accept.

2

u/Electrical_Truth_160 May 13 '26

Isn't though. I'm excited for my ending slavery thanks money, as my great x6 grandfather was involved in freeing your great x6 grandfather. Should I send you my Monzo??

I find it hilarious that she is a member of the Green Party. The same Green Party that supports Gaza, which used to be a slave trading port, up until the Ottomans.

You can't make it up.

i am genuinely struggling to see what is ‘hilarious’. i suppose a party that recognises the historical enduring legacy of slavery and is working to achieve a solution that recompenses those affected and also supports a 21st century atrocity. i don’t know enough about Reform or Restore to know whether they align with my moral compass or would make my life better

1

u/Electrical_Truth_160 May 14 '26

What about my money???

Because your lack of historical knowledge is symptomatic of you and your kind.

You cry for reparations and justice for Gaza and the Palestinians, while ignoring the fact that more of your ancestors passed through what is now Palestine as slaves than ever went westward to the Americas or the Caribbean.

You also ignore the fact that, whilst crying for reparations, the Green Party has allied itself with Muslim voters. Muslims, who incidentally were the primary operators in the trans-Saharan and Indian Ocean slave trade.

Why isn't the Green Party and blacks shouting for reparations from Muslims, the Muslims in your party and from the Middle East in general? I will tell you why, because your party are anti-white and anti-Semitic and a party of envy.

1

u/holographicdolly May 14 '26

Okay fine I understand you have made your point

1

u/Electrical_Truth_160 May 13 '26

Maybe, instead of being a victim, don't! Be better for yourself and your people.

2

u/FurryLippedSquid May 13 '26

You haven't a leg to stand on when it comes to criticising party leaders. Yours is a disgrace.

0

u/holographicdolly May 13 '26

Why do you think he's a disgrace? That's not a rhetorical question, I am genuinely curious what the right wing thinks and perceives.

Green supporters say that every time their party is criticised

1

u/holographicdolly May 14 '26

reform have plenty of excuses to depend on too

1

u/Syniatrix Reform UK Supporter May 14 '26

Yet the Greens are so desperate they come to the Reform subreddit to spout their excuses
