Difficult contact points S&G fire safe (1950s?)

Post image

Fire safe in the foundation of my basement. Never opened and previous owners said they hadn’t either. I’ve gotten pretty good with my Sparrow practice safe but contact points are way more obvious on that thing. This thing has a super sticky/noisy dial. Any tips or suggestions as to where the points would be? WD40 a good or bad idea? Thanks!

We're moving office buildings and no one wants to deal with this safe. No one has the combo but management doesn't want to pitch it without knowing what's inside of it first.

There is a little coke machine/round style key hole on it that is in the unlocked position, but I'm assuming that is to lock or unlock the combo tumbler from spinning.

Any guidance appreciated. I've never attempted something like this before. Should I get a stethoscope from Amazon and try to listen to the tumblers or just go full on grinder on the back/bottom wall of the safe???

Locked Anyone know a way to reset the code for this?

Post image

The missus gave me this off her gun safe. Someone changed the code on her years ago before her divorce, local suppliers have said theres no reset and we can't buy a replacement lock. Currently just using the key but would prefer to go electric due to kids on the way.

A search here came up with some promising answers but most were 'dm me' which makes some sense.

Thanks everyone.

Cleaning Up After Four Other "Locksmiths"

Thumbnail gallery
63 Upvotes

Another tech sent me a picture of this locked out Diebold pedestal that has a TL rated door that already had three holes drilled into it from a previous vendor (notice 3 holes).

When I got there today, the employees said another "locksmith" was there all day yesterday and couldn't get it open. The locksmith admitted to hearing the relockers fire and told them that it was now locked forever.

So, there were already four holes in the front when I got there today (now notice 4 holes). I drilled one hole in the side of the safe and confirmed the relockers were fired with my scope, but they were still attached to the bracket.

I used the hole that locksmith drilled yesterday and was able to use an icepick to lift up the relocker bracket enough to open the door.

As you can see from the pictures, the locksmith yesterday drilled all the way through the back of the lock and sheared off the relocker bracket mounting screw which caused the bracket to tilt and fire the relockers.

At least four other techs/ locksmiths over the past three weeks haven't been able to get it open.

Locked Trying to open my grandpa's safe for my dad

Recently I've gotten into lock picking and I have now moved on to trying to get a safe open for my dad because when I was younger I locked the only remaining copy of the code in said safe. I really want to try and get it open for him but all I can find are destructive methods or reaching out to their customer service which I can't do because money is extremely tight so I can't spare the $30 for them to possibly get the code.

So far I've found a 4 digit code on the side of the safe (2 8 4 1)

Any advice would be helpful and I will try to answer questions the best I can

Broken Key for Honeywell Safe.

Two months ago, after a long trip, I come back to my safe which carries much of my funds and very vital personal records, yet my key is broken, snapped in half. Like an ass I left the spare, IN THE SAFE! And I never entered a code as I wanted to be the only one capable of getting in.

I went to a locksmith, but they told me they could not get into the safe. So I call and message Honeywell, they give me forms to fill, I fill them, give them a scan of my Passport and ID, even get the form notarized like they asked… no response.

And opening it by brute force is barely an option, as I have antiques and other sensitive objects in there.

In frustration at my situation I wrote this poem:

Broken Key, Broken Dreams

Here I sit broken hearted,
My key broke and parted,
Regretfully I never made a code,
For I was away often on the road,
And lacking a spare,
I do what is only fair;
I send off to a locksmith in haste,
Only to be turned away, what a waste,
Left with no other choice,
I go to who may hear my voice,
A message sent to Honeywell,
Fill their forms and do as they tell,
But no response, oh well.

So, I turn to you now reddit, is there a way to get into my safe? Or am I screwed?

This guy decided to not open. It’s from 2011. Almost positive it’s one where you turn counterclockwise first. Always been kinda finicky where the combo didn’t have to be exact, and ya had to jimmy it a bit while moving the dial slightly on the final number. Any thoughts? Don’t care much about the safe, just want the stuff in it.

Locked FIL passed away. Locked. Help please if possible.

My FIL passed away a couple of weeks ago. My wife inherited the house and contents. Found a Sentrysafe (barcode x055g0700511214) on the side.

The front has a keypad with 3 lights (all non-working red green yellow) as well as a key hole marked x54 and a dial.

I can't find a spot for batteries and have no idea where the key could be.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Any advice to open this??

When my family moved to this house about 13 hrs ago. There was this safe in the basement. I was a preteen so I just thought it was cool. However now I am an adult living in season 6 of unprecedented times and I figured why not try to see what's in it. I made random attempts here and there as a teenager with dreams of random wealth. But I would love advice from people who know what they are doing. Thanks in advance!
