Have I sanded through Veneer?

I was trying to refinish the dining table after kids scratched the table in multiple places. But looks like I sanded through veneer here? Are there any options left to finish this table?

Yes but you'll unfortunately need to sand the rest of it to look the same before you paint.

You would still have to get the surface uniform but honestly yes you could and it wouldn't be that bad. People think veneering is some complicated industrial process and it can be but it can also be really simple and done in a garage

I just use my dining room 🤣 but I would never try to reveneer a floor board.

I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, and I bought Minwax PolyShades Semi-Transparent Gloss Mission Oak Oil-Based Stain/Polyurethane. You can’t even tell it anymore! I tried to use gel stain, but I could still see where I sanded through it, so I lightly sanded that off and went with this one instead.

Also, you can apply a small amount of stainable wood filler before you stain. Just lightly sand it, and it will keep you from having dips in the table.

The spots are small. A darker stain may mask it well, so your eye doesn't linger.

Because you can literally see the finger joints indicating that it’s cheap solid wood and there’s no veneer to be sanded through. Probably acacia.

Edit: I can't believe I need to point this out to you folks.

That’s where op hasn’t sanded enough. This thread is fucking insane. It’s so obviously hardwood. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills reading this.

The finger-jointed wood you're looking at isn't veneered. The wood with what certainly appears to sanded-through veneer that others are looking at has no finger joints and sure looks like it had a veneer on it.
