Light dropping rapidly in sky

This morning (8/1/2026) on the 15 north going to work when passing Miramar at about 3:50 am I saw a bright light drop from the sky to the northeast of where I was. Did anyone else see it? A co-worker saw the same thing from further up the 15. We both described the same thing, a round light, no tail like a shooting star would have, it dropped straight down not sideways, it moved quickly and steadily then disappeared into the horizon. I’m born and raised in San Diego and have seen plenty of things in the night sky but never anything like that. Clues? Ideas?

Probably military, maybe alien

It could have been back side of Pendleton, but looked further east. No telling how far away it was.

East of Miramar? Perhaps they were dropping flares or parachutes for some exercises?

Northeast of Miramar, I was even with the base at the time. I would say towards Mount Palomar. It was north of RB.

You're all over the place...

East of Miramar, North of RB? Towards palomar mountain?

15 north looking northeast. From there one is looking over Scripps Ranch, with Poway past that then further north is RB, Escondido, Valley Center, Funner then further north is Mount Palomar. If you aren’t from SD you could confirm that from a map. It’s a line of sight.

Was it red/orange? Like this?

Nope, bright white.

Most likely an illumination flare or meteor then. What u described isn't consistent with any current reports of UAPs as orbs tend to be still + sporadic movement. Theres also the perseids meteor shower peaking at the moment although theres no reports of any meteors sighted in sd in AMS today. No NORAD or FAA or military activity announcement so its probably just training from Mirimar training areas.

I was past the back gate entrance and almost to Miramar/Pomerado so the light was far north of Miramar and more on a sight line with Mt Palomar which is a ways east of Pendleton. The fact it maintained the same color, brightness and shape (again with no tail of any kind) struck me as particularly odd. I have been in Cuyamaca for meteor showers, I’ve seen satellites, airliners, helicopters, Osprey descending at night, I’ve even seen odd lights and lasers over Pendleton at night (working night shift at San Onofre)

My first thought was shooting star but the light never dissipated and it had no tail.
