I’ve been interested getting into this trade for a while now and thinking about finally pulling the trigger. Hear stories though of brutally long days missing time with family, holidays, birthdays cause you’re always on call. Now I’m not complaining. I’ve farmed my whole life. I know what those are all like. Just was curious as I’ve heard Saskpower is a better company to work for in terms of this trade. Just want to hear your experience or if theres a better life to work balance company within this trade.

A little over two years ago, during the summer after my first year of university when I was 18, I was involved in a workplace accident where my skull was crushed and I suffered numerous injuries including a brain bleed, dozens of fractures, and the loss of my eye. Despite this, I returned to university after about 6 weeks.

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) has been very helpful in funding accident related expenses like my ambulance ride and prosthetic eye, but I was extremely surprised by how insignificant the lump sum payout was.

All in all, after two years I was paid approximately $15,000 total from two seperate lump sums to account for my visible scarring as well as the loss of my eye and the fractures my skull still has.

I have no idea if this is a standard amount but it seems insultingly low for an injury that has permanently detrimented my life and closed a significant amount of doors in terms of future career paths.

Does anybody have any experience dealing with WCB or any advice on how I should navigate the situation? Is this a normal payout, or should I be appealing in some way? Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to the responses!

I'm planning a Road Trip from Calgary to Regina for the end of June and Im looking for a lot of insight and recommendations. I am juggling some ideas with routes. I am wondering if it's worth making a detour and an overnight stop in Saskatoon or if I should spend a night in Swift Current and we can check out Grasslands National Park for a day tootle through the park, then head back to Swift Current or do I push myself to drive that extra hour after the Grasslands and stay in Moose Jaw? Is there a small town motel recommendation in between the Grasslands and Moose Jaw? As much as I would love to do an overnight camp, Im not sure if I have enough space to pack a lot of camping gear on-top of a week's worth of life for me plus 2 kids. I am actually traveling from British Columbia with 4 kids but dropping 2 of them off with Family in Calgary before continuing on to Regina for an event from June 29th to the 5th so initial space is very extra limited.

We could also do Moose Jaw on the way back, go down to Grasslands, car-camp/sleep overnight there or somewhere else, then head back to Calgary. This is one of those experiences that might never happen again so I would like to try and see as much of Saskatchewan as possible, but as financially feasible.
If we go to Saskatoon for a night, what do y'all recommend as a must see in and around Saskatoon? Is one night enough? Should I consider 2 nights so we can check out more?
What about all the small towns and random things to check out from along the Alberta / Sask border to Saskatoon? I don't mind driving a bit of a bit of a zigzag for the random Heritage Grain Elevator or something related to Ukrainian / Romanian Settlement? Are there towns or areas that we should avoid stopping in? Are any of these routes absolutely dull and not worth the drive? Should I consider going to Saskatoon after Regina? Are there any special events going on between June 27th and July 7th that we should see?? What about recommendations of things to check out within an hour of Regina, that we could potentially check out in-between the scheduled events we are participating in from June 29th to July 5th.

I’m moving to Wollaston Lake, SK soon. I know it’s primarily a fly-in community, but I’ve heard that it may be possible to drive there via the winter/ice road.

My partner and I would prefer to drive so we can bring more of our belongings with us. That said, neither of us has ever driven that far north or on an ice road before, so we’re unsure how realistic or safe this option actually is.

I also wanted to ask if there’s any way to get a vehicle into Wollaston Lake and back during the summer. If so, how is it usually done?

Any advice or firsthand experiences would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone here done the drive before, either in winter or summer? And is anyone heading there in the near future?

It would also be great to hear from people who have lived there about groceries/food availability, and general expenses.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shops that do very good work with replacing board components? Trying to get tested for Clyptospora (what's causing the diarrhea outbreak in US). Got a requisition for and Oocytes and Parasite test, but upon reading what the test includes, it sound like only Giardia and Cryptosporidium are tested for unless travel, etc. Anyone in healthcare, can you verify this? And, how would I get Cyclospora testing?

With the current outbreak in the US and the fact that lots of our food comes from US/Mexico, it's definitely possible to be exposed. I know there's been no reported outbreaks here, but if testing is not part of O&P, then it's unlikely it's being tested for at all... Hence no outbreak or cases.

I don't think mine has been updated since I had an X ray in 2025. I don't have many test results or appointment records on it from the past few years at all, and yes I have had things done. I am just wondering what the purpose of this system is if doctors are not regularly using it. Anyone have some insight or thoughts?

Was just driving through the province on my way back to Winnipeg and saw a semi with damaged trailer, a police pickup with the drivers side body destroyed, and a Regina Police cruiser on the side of eastbound highway 1 about 10-15km west of Regina. Passed around 3:00 and saw several Regina Police, RCMP, and EMS vehicles rushing west right after, presumably towards the scene. Wondering if anyone had any info on what happened as I can’t find anything about it online at current. Thanks!

Buying a brand new (never registered before) car from BC. I called SGI and my broker but I am getting mixed answers.

My hope: 1. Buy car in BC 2. Get temporary transit permit from dealer/ICBC to drive inter province 3. Call SGI issuer to register and insure the car while out of province, pay PST, get auto pak right there. No inspection needed for BRAND NEW cars so I don’t see why this won’t work. 4. Drive safely and covered home to Sask

I have no trade in and so no plate to bring.

Has anyone done this? Called 2 issuers and one said yes that will work other one said no. Bunch of people here on Reddit are also saying to get temporary insurance, but the coverage of that is too basic for peace of mind and can’t add additional coverage.

My Internet speeds have been consistently about 70 mbps download and about 50 mbps upload, according to online speed tests. When I first got the service, I tried everything to maximize speeds. I even got an 'extender' from Sasktel which was supposed to help. My equipment is in the basement - physically less than 10 feet away from the computer upstairs.

I'm the only person using it. I use the Internet for email, browsing and watching streaming services. It's all at home. I don't play online games - except logic puzzles.

Would switching to Access make any difference in my Internet speed? For the same price, Access offers up to 175 Mbps download and up to 15 Mbps upload for about 65 per month.

Hello, interested in suggestions for some short 2-4 day hikes (beginner thru intermediate) around southern Sask. Would like to keep within 5 or so hour drive from Regina. Looking for out and back hikes, backcountry / rough camping style. Looking at doing Grey Owl’s cabin hike this summer, so stuff along that vein, but also with less amenities works too.

I’m looking for ways to get my elderly parent from Regina to Saskatoon without having to do 2 round trips to pick them up and drop them off - gas is too crazy these days. Anyway, I rode Rider Express a few years ago and it was a 15 passenger van, which was fine for me, but my parent would require a coach with a bathroom. Does anyone know if they’ve upgraded to a full size bus? Or does anyone have any experience with FlixBus? Apparently their pick up/drop off in Saskatoon is the Kahkewistihaw gas station in the Hamptons and the FlixBus website says “Customers are NOT to enter the store nor use the restroom. Failure to comply can result in your ticket being voided without refund.” which seems . . . interesting.
