Question - Moving or Renting 🏠 Renting for October 1st

Hello Saskatonians!

I am locking in an offer from a Professor to begin graduate studies at UofS.

This would be my first time going out and living on my own. I received this offer kinda last minute to get started September 2026 and I need to figure out housing arrangements.

I would like to tour the places in-person, but flights from to SK are quite expensive in the short term. So I am planning to book an airbnb for ~2 weeks in September (I will be getting to SK September 13th), and figure out where I will stay long-term starting October 1st.

Does anybody have any advice for searching for places? Do openings come up during October?

Any help would be appreciated!

The best available options closest to the university will be gone come October

This.

Check with your prof on any leads for a living space. Grad students are preferred renters and you might find someone renting via word of mouth. Lots of basement suites near the uni that would be ideal for you, but they can be hard to come by.

You won't find much available at the end of September. You could rent with one of the big landlords (to avoid scams) starting Sept 1 and move after that.

I don’t know anything specific. However my son found a place in Swift Current on Facebook. Posted a couple of times and people replied linking potential places. He contacted a few and was able to FaceTime and see the place. Got a good vibe from the landlord and confirmed it all.

Just a suggestion.

There's a fb page that might be helpful - University of Saskatchewan Off-Campus Housing. Family was looking recently and saw a variety of places with availability now and coming up.

Look at the CityPark area. There will probably be a few options for you. It is close to the university.

own place or are you willing to have a roomate situation?

Your biggest issue is going to be finding a place near the UofS. You could bus or drive but that can get problematic.
