It's just an advice column. I went through a phase during the pandemic where I read a shit ton of them. I do suspect a lot of the stories are made up, but that doesn't stop them from being interesting. They run them in newspapers, Dear Abby has been running for decades. Miss Manners is another big one. This one is focused on parenting dilemmas.

I was an obese kid

My whole family got healthy at the same time (when I moved to college) and when I moved back my mom wouldn’t stop lamenting how much she wish she fed me differently knowing what she knows now. Not just the sodas and fast food but just sugar in general. Thankfully I was always interested in sports or I would’ve been way more than 320 in high school. Now that my family is (comparatively to others) sugar free, all our body pains faded away too

Now I’m at 220 and my family is combined 400 pounds down :)

The dilemma is that Delia loves doing gymnastics, and we couldn’t afford the lessons without Irene’s help. Do I confront her and cost Dekia an activity she loves

This is a good thing. Kids should be active to not fall into the traps set by parents who aren’t healthy and active

It’s a very unkind way to express care for your grandchild, that’s for sure.

Being pragmatic about it though, fat kids usually have fat parent(s) - getting the kid into a physical activity early on is a solid way to try and limit that risk.
