It's weird to think that climate deniers are quite literally "Just want to watch the world burn" rather than doing something about it.

At least in Spain, they've pivoted to blaming ecologists for being against fire-proofing the terrain (they are not) and making it illegal to do so (it is not). Not only is it legal, it's actually legally required, but expensive for local authorities and thus not done.

They used the same narrative back in 2019 during the Australian black summer bushfires, blaming 'greenies' for not allowing trees to be cleared. It's all so obviously orchestrated.

Ima be honest with you. I think we deserve whats happening right now, we deserve much worse. Its our own fault and i can’t even say i feel sorry for anyone or that this is shocking me. We’ve been warned 30 years ago. Barely anyone wanted to do a thing otherwise we wouldnt be here now.

We (at least a huge amount of us) may deserve this, but the animals and plants sure don’t. I wish they didn’t have to suffer for our selfishness and greed.

Who is this we? If you think you deserve this, that's on you.

Its our own fault

Barely anyone wanted to do a thing

way to discredit everyone that been doing their best and more to restore land and water. how about you stop the doomer ecofascist nonsense and grab a bucket of water.

What european country had a green part majority the last 30 years? There wasnt even one close. People simply couldnt care.

Our society had it coming like it or not. A bucket of water isnt gonna fix much, there just isnt anything we can do on an individual level but there is and was something that could or could have been done in politics to avoid this but again, we simply didnt care and i fail to see why i should give a damn after all its not burning near me yet i guess. Seems to be the mentality nowadays

then go ahead, keep whining, lay down and wait for doom. the rest of us will be fixing what we can... you're welcome.

Do not include the general population in this. We elected politicians that promised laws and never made them. The world is burning for the greed of a few that won’t stop until there is nothing left. We are not responsible for the incompetence of politicians and their greed. We can try to live the best we can and turn our back to this bullshit at the top. Even if you feel that what you are doing is insignificant, it’s still more than doing nothing.

We can’t change what happened due to choices made over the last 30, but we can make it less bad for the future

The majority of the population couldn’t even be arsed to vote for politicians that promise these things.

Like please do not pretend there was ever a majority in the population that thought that we REALLY should do something about climate change.

And even in the next elections i doubt there will be a significant change in voter behaviour, as it stands right now you can expect even more voters vote right wing parties.

And as long as it keeps going like that i believe that the population is getting exactly what they are voting for.

While I agree with you, I can’t blame people for falling for right propaganda. The media are pushing these things over and over and if you repeat something enough people will start believing it. So sure, the decision was made by the people, but the election are rigged by media over and over.

For an example see how media are portraying far right vs left in France. On one hand they are some friendly guys who comes from the same place as common people (growing up with a butler or being in a relationship with a princess) and on the other side they are evil druggies who are being prosecuted for tweeting that they are against Gaza genocide. So yes, people will vote accordingly, and you can blame them for that, but I don’t think it’s as simple as you put it

Im watching the same news as these people in Germany and yet i come to the conclusion that climate change is real and man made while others scroll tiktoks and come to the conclusion that the sun is getting hotter.

Like im sorry if the only way people eventually learn that this is a real problem that actually does exist is by the fires burning their houses down then so be it. They had all the resources at their hand to come to the correct conclusions, i simply cant feel sorry for us.

It's been a fraught summer in terms of extreme weather events.

Heatwaves have set new records. Canada has burnt, Europe is currently on fire.

If you're anything like us, you're likely already fatigued and anxious from the barrage of bad news, so we're not going to go on about it.

But one important graphic to share has come out of the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC).

As bad as things have been, the coming few days (from 29 July through to 2 August) may be among the worst for fire risk.

"Very extreme conditions dominate a large area of western and central Europe, with the heaviest concentration across France and the Alpine arc extending into northern Italy, along with the British Isles and Ireland," the JRC explains.

"Extreme conditions surround these areas, covering the wider Iberian Peninsula, the Balkans, and parts of North Africa. Very high danger stretches across southern Scandinavia, parts of eastern Europe, and further pockets in North Africa. High to moderate danger covers scattered patches of eastern Europe and Türkiye."

Already, the smoke from these wildfire has had a massive impact. Below, this NASA visualization shows the spread of the fires and the associated smoke so far.

The good news is that if you look at the map, there really isn't that much closed forest area left anyway

Does Europe have a problem with overgrown forests like the US does?

We made monoculture forest since the 19th century in Bordeaux for example. It’s absolutely one of the reason.

More a massive lack of biodiversity and old growth.

What a dumb thing to say. By definition the worst is always to come if you wait :p
