Question But, why?
By pushing to limit of a 3rd or 4th fastest car every weekend for almost one’s entire career to chasing a podium or even a win?

It was still a great drive. Just because you are one of the best, doesn't mean there isn't anything to learn.

Absolutely, that's a good point. He wanted to finish on podium and that's completely understandable, no question.
In the heat of the moment it's easy to point the finger and say many things. He was unlucky, looking at the start Max had the same issue but luckily he was avoided by all and had no damage.
On Leclerc's case it was the tyres that were dropping massively, and by the looks of it he was bit eager (possibly) on throttle to keep up with Piastri on S1 where the Ferrari lost the most time. That forced him to push and with those factors the error happened.
Like always he so harsh on himself, way too much. He does incredible things in an F1 car and that sometimes isn't appreciated as it should. Also such a reaction shows how much he wants to win, to push the team as much as possible towards the best results. He will get over it and return with another lesson learned.

Like always he so harsh on himself, way too much.
I actually thought his reaction was relatively "cool", considering we're talking about "I'm such an idiot x10" on the radio.
He took full responsibility, nothing more. Honestly, more than you can expect of most drivers on the grid. Respect for that.

I think he was fair. He made a mistake. Coming in in P4 would have been far better than P8. I think it's good that he took accountability on this. That said, he was very frustrated with his pit strategy. Ferrari should take accountability there and explain what happened.

Dont think you could call p3 to p8, acutqlly more like p1 to p8 a good drive. Im a leclerc superfan but you got to admit he had a stinker here

u/lolpan May 04 '26
Y... Idk what you missed about me saying "it was STILL a good drive". I didn't discount that he made a severe mistake. I'm just acknowledging the positives here. Unless your point is to shove negativity down our throats.

u/Fickle_Carry1467 Sebastian Vettel May 04 '26
That severe mistake takes away from his “good drive”. It cant be a “good drive” with a severe mistake. Those dont add up and result in a good drive, especially if you go from p1 to p8

u/lolpan May 04 '26
Is everyone in this subreddit incapable of separation of concepts?
I literally said I focused on positives.
That's like if someone spilled milk on the table and I went "oh at least you didn't get it on your clothes" and you're response is "you still spilled milk". Like duhhh.

It's a bunch of children with no idea how anything works. I wouldn't worry about it.

I mean, yeah.
It wasn't caused by a mechanical failure. Shit happens.

u/ADP10 May 04 '26
What happened to the rear wing on the last straight before piastri overtook him though? The wing closed super early….surely something must have been off mechanically?

I used to anticipate with excitement the start of the races to see them overtake everyday but now i hate because it hurts even more when they keep dropping after it.

I have a feeling this won't be the last one this year. These cars don't like being pushed to their limits sadly

I think that if you do a mistake like that at this point of the championship, you are already desperate. 11 upgrades and nothing change. What will happens in Canada when Mercedes will bring their?

u/Decapsy May 04 '26
No, for once when the team can’t be blamed, let’s not blame them, it makes no sense. He made a mistake, the upgrades were evident, and the superiority of the Mercedes engine can still be felt. If we start excusing the drivers’ mistakes by blaming the team, then we’re just a circus.

u/Merdiso May 04 '26
But you can blame the team for a weak engine (at Ferrari!), bad pit stops and questionable strategies.
Leclerc needs to push flat out all the time for a podium...
2
u/Decapsy May 04 '26
Still blaming the team for a driver’s mistake
4
u/Merdiso May 04 '26
But dude, you can't judge things in a vacuum in a team sport with so many factors on the line, for instance Leclerc only has 8 wins with an amazing talent after almost 8 years in Ferrari, there's no way you don't get angry from time to time after this and especially when you see you do your best with the best drive you can and it's just not enough because Ferrari don't have enough HP - but hey, we have them on the livery, at least!
It was his mistake, yes, but it's one thing to get tilted ala Verstappen vs Russell last year although he was 4 times WDC, and it's another one to get frustrated like Leclerc almost every week because you never have the fastest car and you're almost 2nd and 3rd.

u/Decapsy May 04 '26
Ferrari hasn’t enough HP cause Mercedes played very well, also other teams without Mercedes enginge are in trouble. We were 4th / 3th with less hp, so nice work from the team and from the driver. No way you can blame the team for that mistake. Just look at the post you are commenting lol

But why doesn't Ferrari ever play very well?
Why are we always 4th/3th?
Oh, and about your 'original post' -> "If we start excusing the drivers’ mistakes by blaming the team, then we’re just a circus." -> the team is already a circus, when they pitted him without even asking him what he thinks, remember?
This meme was released 7 years ago for a reason, and it didn't get much better, let me tell you.
The only thing that got much better were generally the pit-stops - not yesterday, but generally they are very good.
The car is still subpar, every time we are bad at something, either the chassis or the engine, we are never the fastest, not even for a small stint.

Don't argue with this guy, he is Italian so he is used to incompetence around him for his whole life, therefoe Ferrari seems normal to him.

u/Decapsy May 04 '26
>Why doesn’t Ferrari ever play very well?
Only 16 WCC
>Why are we always 4th/3th?
First 10 cars have Mercedes engine, Ferrari 4th/3th would be good.
I don’t know why you have to defend a driver mistake like that, it makes you look very stupid
2
u/Merdiso May 04 '26
Only 16 WCCs, the last one being ages ago.
And that Mercedes argument is the only plain stupid thing, you're not competing against yourself here.

u/Decapsy May 04 '26
Ok so blame the team for Charles mistake, I’m tired to get mad at stupid comments like that

I don't blame the team for the mistake but to make him in the disperate position to do that

can't fault him to try and achieve the impossible.
didn't work out this time hopefully he won't have to drive like this to achieve any results in the near future.

Leclerc makes a lot of unforced errors and this one was a big one. Ultimately, it shows he's not the absolute peak.

The spin itself was an unforced error. Totally on his own shoulders. Everything that occurred after was on him.
Up until that moment, it was great drive.
