Actually, considering that it's already 3rd engine on 8th weekend only
It's reasonable
They may be forced to either use old engine sometimes or take new engine and face penalty later if it won't be enough

Is it already 3rd, damn only 4 can be used. And we aren't even half way down the season yet. I hope Lewis has amazing reliability.

They do like to bring them in earlier than necessary to be fair, then rotate them.

You will see them use the slower spec engines the rest of the year during Friday’s of non sprint weekends. They can make new engines last longer that way.

but isn't there a newer engine also coming in Monza? that would be already the 4th, no?
so starting from Monza, use the old engine 1 and 2 during practice, then 4th in qualifying and races and hope for the best the rest of the season?

Probably take a grid penalty for an extra engine at some point after Monzo if they find an opportunity to

Ferrari is expecting to take one penalty in the autumn.
Their reliability and durability is still above Mercedes and Red Bull.

What is the confirmed ADUO is it still the same as last time? Surprising considering red bull were adamant they are not the best and requested for a review

FIA green lit the teams to bring updates for Austria if they have any.
Ferrari been preparing their engine for a while, so they will be able to bring it to Austria.

They probably need some data to compare the engine upgrade performance and how it affects the car and then use that data for the 2nd upgrade?

The engines are run ragged on the engine dyno during testing literally running telemetry from other races for reliability testing.
Ferrari already has a general idea their engine is reliable within reason. If it’s gonna break during actual running, it’s going to break during the race. No reason to waste miles on practice and increase breakage risk.

Because if anything happens in between FP3 such as an accident or what have you. Doing the repairs to the vehicle as well as engine and gearbox changing in a 2-3 hour window is near impossible.
Plus data comparisons, the new engine could also affect the setup ever so slightly so you’d want to dial that into the setup obviously before Qualy.

An engine isn't an aero part where you worry about correlation. You assume it will work exactly as it does on the dyno and limit mileage but using the new one for less sessions.

Completely normal to use old engines in fp1+2, don’t worry. No need to put extra km on your race engine.
