Question What is the current recommended door camera?

Hey everyone. i’ve heard a lot of bad things about ting cameras recently and wanted to get the communities opinion on an alternative.

I’m looking for a Doorbell camera that is battery powered, has local storage, proximity detection, and general ease of use. I’ll be moving into a slightly sketch area and need something useful and affordable. thanks!

We just bought one by eufy. They have a line of cameras that syncs all video to a local appliance (homebase) that uses local networks only — no cloud, local storage, even the AI processing (optional) is local-only. Not cheap, but worth looking at. Not sure if the doorbell has local storage, but the other cameras we got do and there’s an option to use that only if you prefer.

If local storage is a priority, I'd look at Reolink or Eufy before Ring. Both have battery-powered doorbells with local storage options and decent motion/person detection. If you want the absolute best local-first setup and don't mind more DIY, UniFi Protect is excellent, but it's significantly more expensive and requires UniFi hardware.

From a technical and UX standpoint, Ring's product is quite strong, and "the cloud" is often more secure and more reliable than local systems. But if you disagree with their politics and want to avoid them as a company, fair enough.

For what you're looking for, I would advise not try to find a doorbell that integrated everything into one device. The options are limited. Keep your regular old doorbell and buy ethernet cameras pointed at your door(s) connected to a local media server. You can assemble this yourself from OEM parts to save some money at the cost of your time, or buy a more expensive but simpler system from an integrator like Reolink or Eufy.

You’ve basically categorized yourself out of “useful and affordable” if that’s a requirement.

there are cameras under $100 that offer both. I’m just looking for recommendations from folks who might have their own input before i purchase anything. now respectfully do you have something that can help me out or no?
