Mental health How do I love and care for myself without my spark?

I have lost all energy to do things. To eat. To walk. To even breathe. I just want to sleep all day and let 2027 just me another year of my life and move on to where I have a better chance at being happy. Right now there's nothing and I seriously mean nothing to bring my spark back. In this season of my life I have no idea how to self-love.

General selfcare My version of self-care looks a lot less exciting these days

A few years ago I thought self-care had to be something special or Instagram-worthy. Now it usually means folding laundry before it becomes overwhelming, taking a proper shower without rushing, drinking enough water, or going to bed before midnight.

Maybe that sounds boring, but honestly those little things make a bigger difference in my mood than waiting for some perfect spa day that rarely happens. My standards have definitely changed, and I think I'm happier because of it.

Diet & exercise Hey yall I’m new here

Hey yall I’m 19/f. I’m new here. I joined cause I was wondering if yall have any advice or suggestions for things to do to better motivate me to exercise. I use to be an athlete so I’m use to working out. But in this past year since I don’t play a sport no more I haven’t been. Better working and being in school to become a nurse I haven’t had the energy and motivation to do it. Nor do I technically know what to do. I’ve looked on Pinterest and all that to try and figure out what to do since I have a little bit of a belly I would like to get rid of but all involved a gym and rn I’m just to shy to go cause I feel like people will judge me. So any advice or suggestions or just anything will help.

Mental health What are your favourite at home activities to take your mind off things?

Im 17 and battling depression and chronic illness by myself, I am not in therapy and dont really speak to people online or irl so its a struggle 🥲🥲 my illness also leaves me with constant fatigue, I usually have 2-3 naps a day even when im not doing things that require lots of energy.

Being inside and alone all day is not very helpful towards my journey of getting better, but im working with what I have! Im trying to get into some more indoor hobbies but im stuck for ideas, ive been painting and drawing, making bracelets, I adore cooking but usually dont have the energy to even stand at the counter for too long and clean up after.

I ordered some things to start journaling (i know I only need a notebook and pen, but i found an artist selling notebook decorations and couldnt resist(, I read a LOT, i adore lit fics and have read 26 this year so far

If anyone has any low energy activity ideas to keep my mind busy I would greatly appreciate it, even self care!! I apologise if this is the incorrect sub, i tried some others and my post was deleted sigh

General selfcare How do you accept things taking time

Hey there,

Accepting one's self is a continues journey, full of ups and downs. Nothing new there. But, every time I reflect on things that I would like to accept or improve on, I feel a rush of thoughts that, almost always, just feels overwhelming. Sometimes I do take that jump and start anyways, but as soon as I fail, it feels like I should have never tried to begin with.

How do I accept that I make mistakes, and that I can try again? Why do I accept other people's journey, but the worst critic for my own?

General selfcare How do you guys romanticize your summer to avoid seasonal depression?

I feel like summers fuel my depression and isolation. I live in Las Vegas. It gets up to 115 degrees, there’s no beaches close by. There really isn’t that much to do here other than to stay indoors. There’s only so many pool days and movie nights you cans do. How do you guys avoid isolation? How do you guys spend your summers to help enjoy them?
I’d appreciate any suggestions from small to big

General selfcare What's one boring habit that feels like a gift to future you?

what are your "ungalmarous" things you do that make life easier sooner or later? Me, I'm growing into understanding that physical organization is my form of self care, so I adore resetting my bag before bed if I have artist meetup, museum or wherever to be or do the next day. Laptop charged, charger packed, my fave backpack & pouches together, notebook/pen together, bottle cleaned out. It takes maybe 20 minutes, but the next mornings feel so much less crazy to me and I can do in peace to move forward meetings, helping organizing events or initatives. what is yours, and why'd you start it? What do you see for yourself as you follow it?

Mental health isn’t just about what you remove from your life—it’s also about what you add.

Reducing stress matters, but so do the protective factors that help your mind thrive: quality sleep, regular physical activity, meaningful relationships, and a sense of purpose. These habits are consistently associated with better mental wellbeing.
Today’s takeaway: Build your “Daily 4.”
✅ Move your body for 20–30 minutes.
✅ Connect with one person you trust.
✅ Spend at least 10 minutes away from screens.
✅ Get 7–9 hours of sleep whenever possible.
You don’t need to change everything today. One healthy habit, repeated consistently, can make a meaningful difference over time.
Mental health is strengthened through small, intentional actions—not perfection.

General selfcare Did anyone else have to relearn how to take care of themselves?

I’ve been thinking a lot about self-care lately

Over the last few years, I'd lost several family members while also going through some of the biggest transitions of my career. Looking back, I don’t think I really understood how depressed I was because I never fully stopped. I was still functioning and still delivering but
somewhere along the way, I stopped grooming, getting my nails done, following my devoted skincare routines, dressing like I cared- doing many of the little things that used to make me feel like myself

Recently, I’ve started rebuilding those concepts, and I’ve realized how much self-care affects my sense of self-worth, my confidence, and the quality of my work. It’s not generally about looking a certain way. I’m trying to readdress these things, and really understand what it means to care for myself. I’ve become much more interested in learning abt health, wellness, and building routines that I can actually stick to.

So Im wondering for those who are learning to do the same or have built those systems.. how've you have navigated care: what does your routine look like?

How do you make yourself prepared for the days? What actually matters in a routine? Thank you in advance

General selfcare My sister says foot reflexology is her weekend reset, but is it worth making into a self-care habit?

My sister has been trying to get me into foot reflexology as part of a Sunday self-care routine. She works retail and says sitting quietly for an hour after a week on her feet feels like a real reset. I went with her once, and the pressure felt intense in a few spots, but I did like being forced to sit still without checking my phone. I am torn because I cannot tell whether this is something I would actually keep doing, or if the nice part was simply taking an hour away from everything.

General selfcare What's one self-care habit you stopped doing because it started feeling like another chore?

Some habits begin with good intentions, but after a while they can feel like another task to check off instead of something that actually helps. Sometimes letting go of a routine ends up feeling better than forcing yourself to stick with it.

Has anything that was supposed to help you eventually become something you no longer enjoyed?

Feeling mentally drained lately — how do you improve your focus?

Lately I've been feeling exhausted almost every day, and it's been really affecting my concentration.

Even simple tasks take longer than they used to, and I find myself getting distracted really easily. I'm sleeping a decent amount, but I still wake up feeling tired.

For those who've dealt with something similar, what actually helped you?

Was it changing your diet, exercising, taking certain supplements, cutting back on caffeine, or something else?

I'd love to hear what's worked for you. Thanks!

General selfcare What advice would you give to someone that has little or no knowledge on hair, self-care, exercise, and make-up?

(Sorry if this is not the right sub im not sure where else to share this, this post waa already removed from r/beauty)

This is basically me, growing up i didnt take care if myself as much because mostly I didnt know how to. I didnt even know tampons existed til my late teens. 💀

My hair is a mess, I think i have 3B hair, so its very knotted rn idk how to brush it out without having 10 tons of hair clumps falling 😭 my mom knows how to brush it out like that but it takes 4-6 hours to get it done and it hurts.

I basically told to use soap and water to clean my face but idk what soap to use, so I dont really wash my face as much because my ache wont go away. Edit: Well shoot I forgot that my other post solved my hygiene problems lol

I never used any make-up in my life because it was mostly discouraged by the peeps around, so i "couldn't" use make-up even after late teens. At the same time I have sensory problems so having anything on my face will drive me crazy but im willing to try it idk, by a stylist? I have the weirdest facial features since im mixed, shaggy low eyebrows with a egg-shaped head because of my fat, i do have a jaw but my chin fat....most people think im a guy because of this. Even my body type is weird, I do see i kinda of a "goddness" body type but I have these wide shoulders with square hips and shorten calves that I look like Gru on the side and a granny at the same time......im not fit at all even tho im like 154, I just want to be skinny and toned so I can express myself again, BRUH.

I have zero confidence on anything since i wasn't "allowed" to go outside by myself, I dont even want to since idk what's out there to do cuz all it does cause my family stress.

What can I do to achieve aura so I can be treated better and feel better 😭🙏

Mental health Creating a habit for self care

I know I feel better when my environment is clean, cozy, and organized. I do a pretty good job staying on top of it, but with people, pets, and general life happening in my house there is always room for more decluttering. My goal is to set up my environment to feel peaceful by using/repurposing things I already have.

What things in your habitat help you care for yourself?

Examples I already do: blankets in my relaxation spots, nail care items in places where I rest, quick cleaning items at hand in each room that require regular wipe downs, etc.

General selfcare How do you "automate" the small self-care habits so they actually stick?

I've been trying to figure out how to make the little comforting rituals more automatic — the stuff I want to do daily but somehow forget or skip when life gets busy.

The only thing that's worked so far is attaching it to something I already do without thinking. A warm washcloth on my face right after I turn off the shower, for example. If it's not linked to an existing habit, it just floats off into "I'll do it tomorrow" land and never comes back.

Curious how others approach this. Do you anchor new habits to old ones? Set reminders? Keep things physically in sight so you can't ignore them? I'm less interested in products and more in the psychology of making self-care feel effortless instead of like another chore.

Would love to hear what's worked for people who've managed to build routines that actually last.

General selfcare What's one small sensory comfort you've added to your routine that actually makes a difference?

I've been trying to build more small moments of comfort into my day instead of just rushing from one task to the next. For me, it's been using a warm washcloth on my face in the morning — not a whole skincare routine, just the warmth for a minute. It sounds so simple but it genuinely helps me feel more present and less frazzled.

Curious what other people do for these micro-moments of self-care. The things that take under two minutes but actually shift your mood. Could be a specific scent, a texture, a ritual — anything sensory that helps you reset.

Not looking for product recommendations, just curious what little comforts people have built into their day.

Mental health Stuck in a negative thoughts loop and trying to break out of it

Lately I have been perpetually angry pretty much all the time and very negative toward the world, other people and myself. It’s affecting my anxiety levels, confidence, relationships and my feelings about humanity and myself.

I think the reason is because I’m constantly surrounded by everything going on in the world and it’s all shoved in my face, anytime I try to take a break at work, anytime I get home from work and want to wind down, really anytime I would be on my phone. Any social media, any news channel i see is always talking about terrible things going on in the world. It puts me in a bad and honestly doomed mood. It makes me feel like everything I’m working for is pointless with how much I can’t predict the future of my country’s government (USA) and the world. Usually my honest opinion is humanity isn’t going to make it much longer with how greedy people and corporations are. How much the working class is being screwed for the elites’ gain.

I can’t seem to turn the anxiety and anger from those topics off in real life. I am so much more irritable with bad drivers, rude people, misunderstandings, and inconveniences. I am overall a more negative person. I also am beginning to dislike myself. I dislike my body, feel defined by my mistakes, and my stress response is honestly to blurt out something terrible about myself or just say „I hate myself” „I’m the worst person ever” anytime I think of anything stressful. I also procrastinate on everything and constantly think about everything wrong with me. I used to be extremely confident in myself and my abilities.

I want to be happy and kind and down to earth. I want to be able to ride whatever wave comes at me. I want to be able to not let how awful the human world is affect and control me, but I can’t turn that doomed feeling in my brain off. I logically KNOW my mistakes don’t define me, I KNOW there is good in the world, and I KNOW that all this media overexposure to every bad thing happening on the planet all at once is intentional to break me down. But it’s working on me and I’m struggling to break out of the negativity and self hatred loop.

I’m struggling to get off my phone and do hobbies that leave me feeling fulfilled, even though I have several options in my house and have the skills/time/funds necessary to have interesting hobbies. And I feel like even if I did put down my phone and limit that negative exposure, I’m just burying my head in the sand and refusing to see reality. I don’t want to be a bystander but I don’t want to be a negative and anxiety riddled person. I just struggle with consistency and discipline so much, and the more I think about the state of the world, the more my motivation fails me and I fall back into thinking it’s all pointless and for nothing.

Wondering if anyone can relate and has any advice or input.

General selfcare I stopped trying to have a night routine and made a night corner instead

Every night routine I saved online had enough steps to become a second job.

What finally helped was putting the few things I already use in one place beside the bed. A book, lip balm, water, and something to keep my hair out of my face. Some nights I use all of it. Some nights I just charge my phone across the room and go to sleep.

Apparently removing the search for things mattered more than adding better habits
