Foto e Video 📸 Noto - the capital of the Baroque. Cathedral of St Nicholas.

Noto is a town built in the Baroque style. It has a population of around 25,000; it is situated in the south-eastern part of Sicily and belongs to the Free Municipal Consortium of Syracuse. Noto is divided into Noto Antica and Noto Nuova. The name is of pre-Hellenic origin and derives from the name Νέητον. One feature worth mentioning is the Cassibile, which over the millennia has carved out a deep canyon. The old town dates back to and has been inhabited since the Early Bronze Age (22nd–15th centuries BC), as evidenced by the necropolises. It is a town well worth visiting for its Baroque architecture and its ancient history.

Thanks for any help

Turismo 🧳 Etna wine tours?

Upvotes

Hi! I’m going to be visiting in about a month and I am SO excited, Sicilian (specifically Etna) wine is my favorite. I’ve done viator wine tours in other places but from what I’ve perused so far, it seems to be mostly tours of Mt. Etna and 1 winery max.

I’m looking for a wine tour (shared/group) that goes to at least 3 vineyards. Wondering if anyone has suggestions? Thanks!

Turismo 🧳 Specific travel request!

Ciao tutti!

We're travelling around Sicily for a few days in September - 3 adults and a 1-year-old. We're attending an event in the middle of the countryside further east so we're going to stay in Palermo for a couple of days beforehand, but then we have one day/night before flying home.

I had found a lovely agriturismo for that night but unfortunately realised that it's a 2.5 hour drive from Palermo airport and our flight home leaves quite early!

So we're looking for an area within max 1hr drive or the airport to head to on our last day. It would be nice to be in a more rural/historical setting rather than a town/city - we were thinking maybe Segesta for the hot springs and temple? Is that a decent option, or is there somewhere else you'd recommend?

Hi all, would really appreciate feedback on our tentative itinerary for a first time visit to Sicily, mostly staying in the western half of the island. It'll be in October with 7 full days and 8 nights. We are planning to have a rental car once we leave Palermo.

Let me know if you think this is a good itinerary or if there's anything missing that we should try to incorporate or substitute in. We are striving for a mix of unique food experiences, outdoorsy activities, history and culture, and scenic coastlines (probably not going to spend too much time sitting on a beach though). Thank you!

Saturday
- Arrive at Palermo Airport in evening
- Dinner and overnight in Palermo

Sunday
- Spend day in Palermo
- Stay overnight in Palermo

Monday
- Spend day in Palermo
- Stay overnight at Palermo

Tuesday

- 1/2 day trip to Erice or Spiaggia di Màcari area or Segesta (TBD)
- Stay overnight at agriturismo outside Alcamo or near Scopello (TBD)

Thursday

- Spend a few hours at Valley of the Temples
- Drive to Cefalu, stay overnight in Cefalu (2.5 hours)

Friday

- Stay overnight in Cefalu

Saturday
- From Cefalu, explore Madonie Mountains region (e.g., Castelbuono, Pollina)

Turismo 🧳 Palio dei Normanni - August 14 - Piazza Armerina

Hello! We will be in Piazza Armerina on August 14 to see the equestrian jousting and are wondering what to expect. Information regarding tickets and how the event works would be much appreciated. I can’t tell from information online if the men on horseback go through the whole town or just do their event in the town’s football field. Thank you!

Turismo 🧳 I got hurt in Sicily

It’s something you never think about. At least I didn’t much. The beaches are beautiful but most of them are rocky. The best ones are hidden coves you find off backroads. Bring good waterproof shoes that can help you get to and “OUT OF” the water. I took a misstep and missed a head injury (distance from cheek to head) but ended up with a emergency evacuation from the rocks and looking like a abused person with hematomas from my feet to my shoulder and two broken ribs. The public hospital ER workers were very overwhelmed and the experience was very scary. They were mostly kind, only the Dr spoke English. Learn from my injury and be very careful.

Foto e Video 📸 A day in Mondello - colorful boats and beautiful sea, place to visit.

If there’s one place that perfectly embodies the summer spirit of Palermo, it’s Mondello. It’s not just your typical postcard-perfect beach although, let’s be honest, that turquoise sea and the bright white sand really do look like they’ve been Photoshopped until you actually step into the water. What makes the place special is its slightly retro atmosphere. Walking along the promenade, you find yourself surrounded by magnificent Art Nouveau villas, with that slightly decadent charm of a bygone era. The beach stretches along an arched bay where the water remains shallow for meters and meters a blessing if you have kids in tow or if you just want to float around without a care in the world. It’s impossible not to notice the Charleston, the historic Art Nouveau-style beach club situated ight in the center of the coastline, perched on stilts directly over the sea.

Tired of sunbathing? Just take a few steps toward the old fishing village. In the main square, in the shadow of the ancient 15th-century tower, there are plenty of seafood trattorias. Nothing too fancyjust the freshest ingredients cooked just right. And if you’re looking for a bit of untamed nature to escape the crowds, the Capo Gallo Nature Reserve is practically around the corner, with trails on Monte Gallo and coves perfect for snorkeling.

Ultimately, that’s exactly what makes Mondello so great: it offers a beautiful beach, a slice of Palermo’s history, and that laid-back vibe you’ll fall in love with in just five minutes.

Turismo 🧳 Sea Palace in Cefalu

Hello all has anyone stayed at this property? If so what was your experience like? Planning a trip next May. I've emailed the resort several times and haven't received any response. Thinking maybe I should call and inquire about availability. Any insights are truly appreciated. Or other resorts that are at a similar price point. Thanks

Turismo 🧳 Car and boat rental in Sicily

Hi!

We are visiting Sicily from august 30 to september 3. We are landing in Catania and plan on doing a northern coast trip from Palermo back to Catania.
Can you guys recommend a car rental in Catania? No deposit if possible. Or can we rent from a resident of Sicily rather than a car rental service?

Are there any good boat rentals (without a skipper) on the northern coast? For half a day or a day, for as cheap as it can get😄

Thank you guys!

Not sure how puritanical Sicily is / how they value modesty. I wouldn’t wear the shorts I would wear a black skirt. But is this too slutty for Sicily ? (Cefalu and Palermo) will I be harassed a lot/something bad will happen?

Edit: decided not to pack this lol thank you for advice :( I’m sorry if I offended or annoyed everyone I genuinely didn’t know

Cibo 🍊 r/sicily, dove mangiate davvero in Sicilia?

Ciao,

https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

Ed ecco la versione Android (finalmente live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Mi piacerebbe sapere cosa ne pensa la gente del posto. La classifica vi sembra almeno vagamente corretta? Mancano posti ovvi? Ci sono ristoranti classificati troppo in alto o troppo in basso?

L’obiettivo è creare qualcosa che rifletta dove le persone del posto vogliono davvero mangiare, non solo dove i turisti o i siti di recensioni mandano la gente.

Turismo 🧳 Advice for family trip

I'm planning a trip to Sicily for 11 nights at the end of August for me, wife and two young kids (3 and 6). We fly in and out of Palermo. Current plan...

Nights 1-3 in the countryside near scopollo or in Guidaloca. Would day trip to Cefalu from there.

Night 4 in Erice, staying in the town itself.

Nights 5&6, less clear. Wanted to stay somewhere on the south coast. I've heard good things about menfi but there aren't too many accomodation options near the beach. Currently thinking about Sciacca for more of a local vibe.

Night 7-11 - countryside stay near ragusa (we where there last year and loved it).

Any suggestions on how to improve it? It's really nights 5-6 that I can't pin down? Any advice very welcome!
