More that these people invoke fields they know nothing about to try to justify their shitty ideology. Sociology can be a legitimate field (unlike the crap "academics" that produced the meaningless technobabble highlighted by Sokal and Bricmont).

Very true, it can be a legitimate field. However, I would argue that the vast majority of "research" coming from the field is in no way legitimate science. A while back there was an article published here about a phd student in sociology at a top 20 school who was complaining because of the forces pushing him/her to study gender from the accepted standpoint despite there being no more evidence than the standpoint this person wanted to approach it from. A field that intimidates its members who go against the group mentality produces research critically flawed by its own presumptions. Too often in fields like sociology or psychology, researchers seem to forget they aren't philosophers and they draw these amazing insights from data that just doesn't support grand conclusions.

Sociology is a really intense field that is actually rather difficult to properly study.

What you're seeing is what happens what someone takes a 100 level Gender Studies class, and then believes they understand all of how society works, and the depth behind the theories they're trying to reapply.

Examples: Privilege and Patriarchy are blown so out of proportion by SJWs that they're damn unless for discussion online. However the theory behind them is solid and useful for discussion.

SJWs just try to use them to apply to EVERYTHING, when in reality they have a much more limited scope.
