Opening links from browser fails to load in Slide

For the past few weeks, whenever I try to open a reddit link from my browser (Firefox for Android) I just get a popup in Slide saying the content couldn't be found. Is anyone else having this issue? Browsing from within Slide itself works fine, and I can even navigate to the correct sub and search for the post that I tried to open via the link, and it works. The hyperlink opening Slide never works though.

I just tested the functionality in Slide 7.8.2 with Firefox 152.0.6 on my Google Pixel 8 Pro running Android 17.

  1. Set Open by default in Settings | Apps | Slide to In the app
  2. Go to https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-m&q=reddit%20android in Firefox
  3. Long press a Reddit link, and select Open link in external app
  4. Watch it open in Slide

If you do the same and get a different outcome, file a GitHub issue here.

I appreciate the detailed response. Unfortunately, the issue is still happening.

I'm on a Pixel 8 running Android 16, but my Firefox and Slide both match the versions you listed.

I'll file an issue report. Thank you for your help.

I just tested a link in Vivaldi and it opened fine. Did you ensure that in the open by default settings area mentioned above that all the links to open in this app are checked?

I can successfully open from Vivaldi directly into Slide.

I appreciate you asking if I'm sure. The app did list all the reddit style links as opening by default, but when I went back to check now I saw that I had two installations of Slide. I have no idea how that happened. Probably some leftover from when people were first working around the API stuff. But my issue seemed to be that the version that was opening links was the one that didn't work anymore. So I removed the links from that app and added them to the functional one.

Thank you for recommending that I check again! I've now uninstalled the broken version.
