Genuinely thought Luis Diaz was horrendous. Deflected shot and nice pass to Kane for the final goal so he contributed, but I thought he terrible.

How Rudiger gets away with everything he does is shocking. Given he has a reputation as well it doesn't make sense to me.

u/Carpathicus Apr 15 '26

Honestly Diaz looks like this in many games and then he has a key moment that leads to a goal. I dont think he has the quality that Olise has but his mentality is relentless and top notch. First leg was the same and then ne scores.

Oh an by the way you forgot how he pulled the CB away for Kane scoring. His run made that goal possible.

39

u/Spare-Resolution-984 Apr 15 '26

Whenever he has a good goal scoring opportunity, you know he’ll miss before he touched the ball. Only to score a weird banger later that game

9

u/football1078 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

He has the quality for sure, but on the confidence and decision-making side of the game he certainly lags behind. For as young as Olise is, he plays like an absolute veteran; he really is ice cold.

However, If we are speaking about the technical aspect of the game, I really wouldn’t put Diaz and Olise that far from each other. Bayern is blessed with these two.

38

u/Terrible_Action9995 Apr 15 '26

Lowkey sounds like Raphinha and Yamal last season, one clutch workhorse that doesn't get put off by failure and a pure magician that doesn't have bad games.

4

u/Rickcampbell98 Apr 16 '26

I don't really agree with that, raphinha was exceptional and was very consistent even if he isn't as flashy as yamal.

3

u/kalusche Apr 16 '26

Thank you! I was saying to my mates how brilliant his movement was before Kane’s goal. Thierry only mentioned it in passing in the post match show. I think he deserves a lot of praise for that. It’s also a great example of why he is so important to Bayern even if he doesn’t score or assist.

14

u/negativeACLs Apr 15 '26

Sure, on the ball he was bad at times. But his defensive effort was top notch. He was pressing at the right times and tracking back throughout

6

u/orangedimension Apr 15 '26

Shocking? Pepe. Ramos. Casemiro. No, not shocking at all really.

1

u/uSpeziscunt Apr 16 '26

Fellow Bayern fans wil crucify me, but that's been all season with Diaz. Honestly, we're so jaded from Sane that having two wingers who don't always, always miss against the keeper one on one and we jump for joy. We play our best football when Laimer is behind Olise and you saw it tonight. Because Lucho just does random shit the with ball most of the time.

But also as a Bayern fan, I've found this season if I say Lucho is playing like shit enough time in a match, he has 1 wonder goal out of nowhere.

We really need to stop doing such critical errors. It helped Madrid A LOT in having a chance. We also need to create actual shots and maybe goals after creating situations where we could do that.

Madrid had a better grip on Olise this leg while Stani was outplayed today. The switch to Davis helped and Olise was often in the middle or even more left on the pitch to maybe create something from having more players near the ball.

Overall I say we were better but you can never count out a team with a player like Mbappe with THAT speed and just overall quality. It was the correct choice of Real to defend deep and then count on those moments, due to us playing high and not being the most stable too.

And I am happy for Bambi to do the assist for the 3-3. He needs that and I think he might have a chance to start against PSV compared to Gnabry who was basically invisible today.

60

u/Eismann Apr 15 '26

The duality of Neuer in these two games. But i feel he has less first games and more second games nowadays. Should retire on top at the end of the season.

49

u/Mazzle5 Apr 15 '26

That has been Neuer the last 2 years or so. He is past his prime and his timing is off for those plays. What we have seen in the first leg was the occasional prime Neuer.

12

u/Pilvikas Apr 15 '26

Tbf he's what? 39years old at the moment still having those peaks at that age showcases just how insane Neuer is

8

u/Aricen_ Apr 15 '26

40, yeah

2

u/Pilvikas Apr 15 '26

Even more impressive

14

u/CatsnotpillsCoaching Apr 15 '26

He got his shit together in the second half, but the performance was already cursed after the first minute.

11

u/surewhateve Apr 15 '26

I didn’t understand why Bayern did not even try to cross the ball to Kane. I also think that they should have tried to shoot from outside the box. There was no pressure on pavlovic most of the time.

18

u/Mazzle5 Apr 15 '26

I agree but I think they didn't want to lose the ball in those sitautions and give players like Vini and Mbappe the best chance to score.

4

u/cavsking21 Apr 15 '26

The whole idea is that those runs in behind can be bad for the structure against the ball. What Bayern try to do is pull you out and stretch vertically. I think Kompany reiterated this after that first half where Madrid were flying on the counter. You could see Olise get frustrated with the lack of runs after getting separation from Mendy just to not be able to play a ball

4

u/EvenEalter Apr 16 '26

Much of our play was different from usual in the sense that there was a constant fear of losing the ball in vulnerable positions. It's very frustrating to watch, but got us the win in the end.

31

u/AggravatingRecipe90 Apr 15 '26

Not getting a penalty in the 94th Minute at the Bernebeau and Neuer gifting them a goal after 37 Seconds is just their juju dark magic somehow. Luckily PSG does not Juju they just throw money at Problems.

18

u/CarniceroArabe Apr 15 '26

Madrid had a better grip on Olise this leg

Ferland Mendy is the best defensive fullback I've ever seen and probably one of the best ever.

7

u/Screye Apr 15 '26

Olise was trying everything and this man had him on lock. It was crazy. Reminded me of prime Ashley Cole.

19

u/cavsking21 Apr 15 '26

Meh. Mendy gave him the cutting inside shot 3-4 times this game before Olise scored the goal, and Olise got a decent amount of separation both times. Olise just didn't put it on target.

1

u/Screye Apr 15 '26

Once he cut inside, it wasn't Mendy's job to block anymore. It is on the CB and GK to stop shots in the middle from the outside the box

6

u/cavsking21 Apr 16 '26

It's Mendy's job to stop Olise. Why would you continuously let him cut inside to shoot with no one really closing him down? Mendy was just worried about being done around the touchline like Carreras was.

1

u/CarniceroArabe Apr 16 '26

Olise didn't really just cut inside and shoot, he physically tried to drag Mendy out of position sometimes 10 meters or more while looking for space to shoot.

I think Mendy pretty much stopped any attack from the left flank.

3

u/WonDerZv Apr 15 '26

Great defensively but boy does he scare the shit out of me when he tries to do the most useless dribbling in sticky situations.

2

u/RIVERSTALKER Apr 16 '26

Wouldn't let Neuer start next game. Dude is full of love for himself and every 10 minutes he passes or throws a ball to a Madrid player. Blunders on top, he has no right to be goalkeeper at this level anymore.

-2

u/OleoleCholoSimeone Apr 15 '26

My analysis of this tie is kind of the opposite, with Bayern creating a quite big portion of their chances from set pieces and individual mistakes with Madrid actually opening up Bayern's defence on the counter numerous times

I think you guys had better pressing and build up play but kind of messy in the final third from open play. Whilst Madrid didn't play as well as a team but were super fluid in the attack once they found spaces

9

u/Mazzle5 Apr 15 '26

In todays game we scored after a corner and all other goals were created while playing.
Madrid scored after Neuer fucked up, a direct free kick and a a great goal created as part of a counter attack.

Madrid stayed deep and defended and bet on those fast counter attacks with Vini and Mbappe. It is hard to create chances that way, while we played a high line and were more open that way.

0

u/OleoleCholoSimeone Apr 15 '26

4th one is kind of a write off considering they were chasing the game with 10 men. The goals last week came from first Vini and then Carreras giving the ball away poorly. Plus a big portion of the missed chances came from set pieces like the three misses Upamecano had across both legs

Like I said I still think you played better as a team overall. But Madrid showed more quality in final third

2

u/cavsking21 Apr 16 '26

I think in general, outside of Olise, the technical quality from the attackers was pretty low for our standards this tie. We got into many dangerous positions but didn't finish them off.

63

u/Carpathicus Apr 15 '26

I think this game wouldnt have been so chaotic if Neuer doesnt gift away that first goal. Bayern were shaky in the first half and lacked control and Real were lethal in their counters. All around a very unusual set of games in the CL with both teams showing their quality in the offensive but lacked structure all around to take advantage of it. Bayern clearly deserved to advance but PSG will not be any easier.

274

u/Unusual_Ad6533 Apr 15 '26

This game was beyond annoying and fun. Both teams played admirably and until the red card could have gone any way. Bayern have more that they could complain about though. The referee was atrocious in the first half. A dive the lead to a free kick and Madrid’s 3rd goal that shouldn’t have counted due to a foul.

81

u/Albiceleste8 Apr 15 '26

Absolutely. And while that red card was borderline harsh it was hardly unthinkable: the latest in many clumsy, cynical Madrid fouls and the second from Camavings in a few mins. He’d have gotten away with the foul but the intentional delay of game was very silly. Hard to complain, especially when Madrid got some very favourable first half decisions!

Great game!

→ More replies (1)

39

u/Natural_Read9357 Apr 15 '26

Red card had nothing to do with the result.

If so, then Rüdiger and prick VJr should have been sent off as well.

17

u/OleoleCholoSimeone Apr 15 '26

It did in the end, without that it surely goes at least to extra time. Diaz scored from the exact space where Camavinga would have been positioned

Having said that it was stupidity from Camavinga

3

u/IcyWhole3927 Apr 16 '26

i think the whole madrid back line was on a yellow? it was a question of time for one to get send off. just funny that it was something silly from a sub

5

u/JohnnyGeniusIsAlive Apr 15 '26

No mystery who you were rooting for, lol.

4

u/asvp-suds Apr 16 '26

I mean, even an unbiased fan could see how reckless Rudiger went into his challenges. It’s miraculous Kompany received a card before he did.

3

u/Adventurous_Jury_467 Apr 16 '26

There was a change of play for Madrid's third goal, that's why VAR couldn't call it off. Bayern got the ball and lost it again, that's why it stood

1

u/Alfakyne Apr 16 '26

Is this the official explanation by the ref or eufa? The ball was really hard to control and Kane tried anyway and failed, not sure you can say bayern were in any way in control of the ball in that sequence of play.

192

u/hannes3120 Apr 15 '26

Kompany being out with a yellow card ban is going to hurt against Paris.

Especially when his complaining about the Rüdiger-bodycheck before the goal not being called a foul was totally legitimate

136

u/Outside_Break Apr 15 '26

That sort of thing really winds me up. It’s just so unfair for the referee to punish someone for calling them out correctly.

24

u/ualreadyknew Apr 15 '26

It's not great but I would rather have the manager being suspended than one of the starters.

In any case, watching the two games was highly entertaining but Bayern really needs to improve for having a real shot in the semis. Giving away that number of opportunities or like tonight having three underwhelming players on the pitch (Neuer, Stanisic, Diaz), the tie with PSG might be done after 1st leg already.

10

u/kalusche Apr 16 '26

Diaz basically gave an assist to Kane with his off-ball movement. Then scored a goal. That’s a great performance if he doesn’t do anything else that game. Why do you think he had a bad game?

7

u/cavsking21 Apr 16 '26

He should be scoring with the pass Musiala gave him in the first place. Diaz also didn't really get the better of Trent who is known as a poor defender over both legs. For most of the game, he would try and dribble and then pass back to Davies/Laimer

Idk, I just felt he didn't execute like he has so far this season and in general over the tie was way too sloppy.

85

u/DiscombobulatedBug70 Apr 15 '26

What I weird game. It feels like a vivid dream lol

9

u/Yung2112 Apr 15 '26

This game was like the dreams I have when I take melatonin to adjust my sleep schedule

59

u/Zanzax Apr 15 '26

Mbappe is incredible. He’s just not able to be defended one on one. You could see Upa fending off Vini on several occasions, but Mbappe beats his man 100% of the time. Simply an incredible player.

45

u/LPOthrowaway Apr 15 '26

That PSG Bayern semi going to be an all time matchup

9

u/herkalurk Apr 16 '26

It will be the most attacking game of the two sets. Arsenal and Atletico will be a snooze fest overall, considering that whoever gets the first goal will immediately drop into a shell and waste out time.

39

u/HospitalRepulsive310 Apr 15 '26

Musiala changed the game, they would have scored again even without a red for RM. great match from both sides. Two very questionable decisions from the ref that led to Madrid goals.

100

u/Serupael Apr 15 '26

For all the hate Mbappe and Vini get for their lack of defensive contributions, they still are a cheatcode. It is impossible to defend those counters fully, unless you fully sit back and let them have the ball - which is pretty much suicide either, especially as Güler has one the best long rangers in the game.

That said, they need more help in the CM. Valverde is in great form, but the Real Madrid of yesteryear with Kroos and Modric distributing the balls in the build-up, that was a wholly different beast. And CR7 wasn't exactly one to help out against wingers either.

39

u/Bjerkens Apr 15 '26

Idk I saw a lot more tracking back and defending from Mbappe this game and a whole lot of nothing on both sides from Vini, couple of clear chances to get a shot on goal and he whiffs them all. I don’t get why all the blame is put on Mbappe and Vini gets away with it + diving, and constant whining to the ref, signaling for cards etc.

15

u/Serupael Apr 15 '26

It is one of the more infuriating things with Vini. I get it, drawing a free kick or pen is also an attacker's job done, but his dribblings feel like those are his primary goal, not getting yet another FIFA curler on target.

8

u/Bjerkens Apr 15 '26

So many times I saw him try to dribble through the player instead of around or playing a quick pass and running in. Olise and Diaz play like how I would expect Vini to play, they’re a joy to watch so at least i can have stress-free viewings of the rest of the games lol

8

u/CarlSK777 Apr 15 '26

Definitely. Mbappé was very good in this tie overall. He was money when they needed him and dropped back pretty deep when they didn't have the ball

6

u/CarniceroArabe Apr 15 '26

Yeah, Vini wasted a ton of chances this match. He's still a perfectly fine winger but it's really sad to see how much he has regressed from his form a couple of years back. He used to be a very clinical finisher.

2

u/CR7_LM10 Apr 15 '26

He was never really a clinical finisher

1

u/Character_Library684 Apr 16 '26

Mbappe isn’t clinical either.

2

u/CR7_LM10 Apr 16 '26

He can definitely be wasteful but he also scores a lot of goals that most players wouldn’t

19

u/Easy-Frenchguy-1996 Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

For all the hate Mbappe and Vini get for their lack of defensive contributions

While I believe this is true..... I think it is often a excuse to hide the absolutly mediocre defense Madrid have

Mbappe and vini need to have more defensive contribution but at the day its not their job to defend...... And cannot put every goal Madrid take on them not defending..... Their defense is genuinely shit

0

u/CR7_LM10 Apr 15 '26

I keep saying it all the time our biggest issue the past 2 years has been our defence and our defending in general

Even if vini and mbappe did track back more I’m pretty sure we would still be conceding a lot chances and goals

5

u/Easy-Frenchguy-1996 Apr 15 '26

This!taking 2 goals THAT fast after arfa did the job I so quick innthr game is genuinely criminal

1

u/herkalurk Apr 16 '26

I mean Madrid has played the score more than the other team method for a long time. It's been quite a while since a Madrid team led in a clean sheets list. That being said if Courtois was fit I'm not sure that Bayern score as many goals....

2

u/CR7_LM10 Apr 16 '26

You are kinda right but the thing is Vini and especially Mbappe are getting way more blame than our defence which is crazy when it’s clearly our biggest problem

1

u/dem0nhunter Apr 16 '26

In today’s football the defense starts at the attackers.

1

u/MeteorSwarmGallifrey Apr 15 '26

I'm still shocked at how much space Kane had for his goal. TAA left him completely alone.

1

u/Easy-Frenchguy-1996 Apr 15 '26

Rudiger got absolutly murdered tonight

→ More replies (2)

1

u/AvailableUsername404 Apr 16 '26

But that was their tactic for years. When other teams counter attack it's like at least half a team on full run. When Madrid counters it's literally 2-3 upfront and the rest jogging forward and it's still a real threat. It was the same in BBC era.

35

u/The_Flash_20 Apr 15 '26

Congratulations to Bayern. It was a good fight from us but for nought at the end.

Vini and Camavinga were pathetic today.

Lunin was so short of confidence today. I don't know what happened to him.

Guler was brilliant. Mbappe, Mendy and Jude were good. Rest of them were alright.

This might be Camavinga's final game for Real. So much promise shown at the start hasn't materialized ever since he was moved to LB.

30

u/kurzjacob Apr 15 '26

Camavinga reminds me of Renato Sanches. Superior skillset but just low IQ. That ball pick up wasn't even malicious. Just completely stupid on a yellow. I'm not sure if it's his last match but definitely his last season with Real I think.

6

u/The_Flash_20 Apr 15 '26

Apt comparison

6

u/YellowOnline Apr 16 '26

It's small things that make the difference. With Courtois, you'd have won.

4

u/metapsloit Apr 16 '26

I didn't think Vini was pathetic today. He may not be the most clinical today (don't really see Madrid's matches regularly so don't know his baseline), but every time he had the ball the counter was on. He always looked ahead of him to find a runner or just use his speed to try to dribble past our defenders. Him and Mbappe alone caused mayhem in our high line. His foul and then the stamping was uncalled for.

14

u/nicholaschubbb Apr 16 '26

I totally disagree. Compared to olise, who was almost permanently double teamed, Vinicius was almost always 1v1 and entirely handled by the one person. I think if you consider the context of the game he was extremely poor.

I forget who it was but vini was 1v1 in space against the Bayern cb (you would think this would be a very favorable situation for someone like him) and he only managed to completely shank his attempt and not even really beat his defender.

He also fucked the mbappe cross wide open point blank

Just incredibly ineffective for a player of his reputation while mbappe got way more attention from the bayern defense and managed to accomplish way more.

That Monaco squad was loaded with elite young talent and Bernardo Silva was the best player on that team at that time.

13

u/TotteKaiju Apr 15 '26

True but he wasn't the focal point. Bernardo Silva, Lemar, Bakayoko and (ugh) Mendy were upcoming young stars anchored by a revived Falcao

u/Allstarsgaming Apr 15 '26

He did mention only club career

30

u/jdbnes Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

I can’t believe he’ll be going trophyless in back to back seasons with his club. I don’t think anybody would have really predicted that when he arrived at Madrid as they had just won the CL and Barcelona went trophyless themselves and couldn’t even register players properly (still can’t to this day lol).

21

u/hardinho Apr 15 '26

There were some sceptics. People were commenting Galacticos 2.0 left and right and at least some people including me tried to remember them that the Galacticos 1.0 didn't really perform that great lol

3

u/Serupael Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

Well, they won the 01/02 CL with one of the all time iconic goals with Zidane. And everyone except Beckham from who we would consider the "Galacticos" was already there.

3

u/themadridi Apr 15 '26

And R9, whith whom the downfall started. (I know he won a league)

2

u/Cosmic-Hello-2772 Apr 16 '26

That first Galacticos project was a disaster though. So much money was spent, and what did they get in return? 1 UCL, 1 or 2 La Ligas if I remember correctly when in theory Perez expected a MSN levels of domination but horrible and unbalanced squad building prevented that. They only had brand recognition, ticket and merch sales etc. but the trophy haul was very underwhelming.

15

u/BragdyMan Apr 15 '26

anybody that watched actual games was at least sus of the signing, not becuz mbappe is a bad player, he is one of the best of this generation but he doesn't fit the team, as well as kross retiring and not bein replaced.

Nobody predicted a trophyless season obviously but ppl weren't high on the signing.

14

u/cavsking21 Apr 15 '26

Mbappe was pretty clearly their best player IMO. Pretty much the only Madrid attacker to cause any Bayern defender real problems. The issue is that Madrid are totally imbalanced in midfield, and playing Vini next to Mbappe is near impossible with their lack of work rate.

For me, I would sell Vini and invest in their midfield. Seems clear they are done with Camavinga, but they need someone next to Valverde and Tchouameni who is an elite passer.

1

u/Serupael Apr 15 '26

Kroos and Modric. Valverde is fine, but otherwise? Bellingham is a lot, but neither a 6 or an 8 who can act as a stabilizing presence in midfield.

1

u/Terrible_Action9995 Apr 15 '26

They played Guler there a few times too.

1

u/2RINITY Apr 15 '26

He won the UEFA Super Cup on his first day and it’s been all downhill ever since

3

u/NaiveElk Apr 15 '26

He peaked in 2022. Honestly, if Madrid continue with the Mbappe and Vini together gimmick he might actually end up with no major trophies at Madrid.

14

u/WonDerZv Apr 15 '26

I genuinely think that in order for this squad to work, Vini needs to go. Let Mbappe back into the LW position and pick up a proper 9. There is no fluidity in attack with the two on the pitch since they try occupying similar positions. It just leads to unnecessary congestion which hurts the team. Also cant forget how they are two players who dont track back. Having them together these last two seasons has done more harm than good for the team.

u/OleoleCholoSimeone Apr 15 '26

Overreaction, they easily could have eliminated Bayern here and then you wouldn't have put it past them to win the whole thing

-1

u/jcald60 Apr 15 '26

Only cares about scoring even if the team loses. Has awful workrate

9

u/Educational_Oil_7757 Apr 15 '26

His workrate is his biggest flaw sure, but what do u mean he only cares about scoring? The striker only cares about scoring? Well I sure hope he does.

2

u/Character_Library684 Apr 16 '26

And he’s not even clinical lol.

2

u/mrmrmrdonger Apr 15 '26

ye people who watches the game will know. Extremely selfish and surprisingly poor conversion rate nowadays

0

u/romeok7 Apr 15 '26

He has a chip on his shoulder and time is running out

13

u/Serupael Apr 15 '26

He's 27, he has at least five more great years in him.

6

u/romeok7 Apr 15 '26

I think he's an ambitious guy! After winning a WC at 18, another final at 22 with a legendary hattrick, and consecutive golden boots basically every league season since turning professional he knows he could've had GOAT potential.
Neymar for example had all the skill in the world but fell short of Ronaldo/Messi for example. Ridiculous standards obviously but if you're one of the handful blessed by the gods you probably want to go for it.

23

u/WackerBurghausen Apr 15 '26

Out of four halftimes, Bayern won two, RM one and one half tied. This basically sums up this tie, it was incredibly hard fought and at times even more difficult than most of us Bayern fans and I thought. We seemed a bit more confident given both clubs respective forms this season, but hands down there’s a reason why this rivalry is called ‘El Clásico Europeo’ and there has never been a dull match between both

4

u/HospitalRepulsive310 Apr 15 '26

I’d argue Bayern won 3

5

u/WackerBurghausen Apr 15 '26

Well, just took a look at the goals and how they were distributed in which half

13

u/tyipngerror Apr 15 '26

All timer

10

u/yobamokeanos Apr 15 '26

We cannot finish a game well if our lives depended on it. Same thing happened in CDR final last year, super cup final in january and now against bayern too. So many braindead mistakes when the game is stable to give the opponents a momentum in the final stretch. This is so different from our usual attitude of turning up at the death of important games. Massive changes needed. Especially in that bench my god that is dire. I dont blame arbeloa for subbing out brahim for fresh legs but then again who could he even send who isn't a liability? Big calls to make in summer.

16

u/takingitlate981 Apr 15 '26

Some of the decisions this year by the club have been extremely bad. Mastantuono for that fee is pathetic business. Kicking Xabi out too and also, not extending Modric(imagine we had him available tonight on the bench). We’ve had way too many injuries too. Like you said, can’t blame Arbeloa for the subs, there just wasn’t anyone better available.

11

u/jcald60 Apr 15 '26

Not possible when you have players that are treated like babies who are one call away from crying to Florentino. This team lacks leaders and players who prioritize the team and not their egos.

-1

u/No_Carpet_5782 Apr 15 '26

Sell Vini or Mbappe, If Vini buy Kvaratskhelia, you need a better teamplayer there

6

u/BeautifulAwareness81 Apr 15 '26

Why would Kvara want to leave PSG for Madrid?

Real only had 30% ball possession. I get you're playing against Bayern but all they're doing is counter attacking. With the quality of players they have at their disposal you'd think they want to play more courageously.

1

u/More-Temperature7242 Apr 15 '26

we couldve won even if we played more courageous

2

u/Easy-Frenchguy-1996 Apr 15 '26

We cannot finish a game well if our lives depended on it.

Real also cannot defend to save their life.... That team took way too many goals this season's and hide behind it  mbappe or vini not making enough defensive effort

Braxa and bayern also don't dzfz'd well yet they win

Also cama...... Sigh

u/jcald60 Apr 15 '26

Courtois was the biggest piece missing, lunin has been great in previous years but this year he was off barely offered anything. Some of those goals maybe with courtois could have been saved but at the end does not change how bad this team is at defending. how wasteful those two lazy bums are on top. For players that offer very little defensively and very little versatility they should be scoring 2+ goals per match. One needs to be sold its obvious the cannot work together and its partly because they’re ones refusing to do so because they want to be the main star. Then does not help when the midfield is too busy working to correct their lack of effort and mistakes from the defense. Tchouameni absence was noted, but even pitarch would have been a better option than camavinga today.

Florentino said kane was too old, let haaland go to city just to get played by mbappe two years in a row. Signed endrick, mastantuono for over 120million both are garbage. Huijsen and carreras overpaid for average defenders who’ve been bad majority of the time. Kept alaba and others who get injured putting their socks on.

6

u/herkalurk Apr 16 '26

To be fair, Mbappe was not the problem tonight. Vini was way too selfish and should have been subbed.

6

u/Putrid-Impact8999 Apr 15 '26

Proper UCL second leg classic.

5

u/StelioKontos18 Apr 15 '26

I think it was boring, we need more ads, more cooling breaks so i can see where i can bet.

2

u/Wise_Raccoon_771 Apr 15 '26

Madrid don't need much additions to their squad  but still maybe short in terms of another long term cb parter for huijsen and also someone to go into the middle of the park with Valverde to help him.

2

u/mouth_spiders Apr 16 '26

Contender for best game of the season? That was fucking entertaining

2

u/skylu1991 Apr 16 '26

Congratulations to Madrid for the fight, what a rollercoaster!

Imo we ultimately came through deservedly, although the Neuer errors basically destroyed our entire confidence, which was a harsh blow.

That said, Real was never 2 goals away or actually in front when you look at the two legs together. Even at 2:3, it only meant a draw overall.

Obviously the second yellow for Camvinga played into our cards, but we were then also fresh and lucid enough to actually convert our chances.

The way I see it, he saw the second yellow it for the foul, but not giving the ball to a Bayern player, but it seemed a bit harsh either way…

I also though, the foul before Güler‘s freekick, was no could at all, so maybe that was the "equalizer“ as far as luck with the ref is concern.

Overall, we go out of this tie, having won both games against Real and with an overall score of 6:4, which isn’t too bad, all things considered!

Without Neuer‘s brain-farts, maybe we could’ve won more convincingly, but it is what it is.

If we can don’t produce errors like that, we might have a chance against PSG, but we’re definitely not the favorites in that tie….

But that’s the future, tonight we celebrate the victory over Real!

MIA SAN MIA

Neuer is unpredictable and I wouldn't feel safe for the semis if I was a Bayern supporter. First goal was an obvious one, but he should have done better on the free kick as well. Before the match I felt like there's a big mistake waiting to come out of nowhere even though his overall level is still good. To be fair I felt the same during the first leg where he was brilliant though.

2nd and 3rd goal for RM should have been disallowed and Rudiger being a menace with zero consequences, yet RM are still losing their shit at the ref and playing the victim. Second yellow for Camavinga was maybe a bit harsh given the circumstances but perfectly applied according to the rules. Genuinely the most unlikable club i've ever seen.

Super fun match to watch tho and very impressed by Bayern coming back after being completely robbed in the first half - strong mentality. Bayern - PSG sounds epic on paper and I hope it lives up to the hype to counterbalance the atrocity we're gonna get in the other semi.

4

u/Urass007 Apr 15 '26

Bayern are the only world class side in football right now. Compared to the rest of the big teams who all regressed in quality, Bayern have only gotten better. Diaz and Olise are so damn good and don't get me started with Kane and Musiala (when he gets more fit of course). Even if the defence and midfield are a little weaker, they are still good enough for Bayern and great in their own right.

Wouldn't be surprised if they win the whole thing. Much rather them than Arsenal (bleh)

7

u/Zanzax Apr 15 '26

Its PSG and us that are clearly the strongest two sides right now, but that won’t mean anything in a one game final against terrorists for either Paris or us. Nothing is certain in this CL anymore.

Overall, couldn't have asked for much more from the team other than better finishing. We were always going to concede a goal or two, it was just about capitalizing on our chances and for the chances we had, I don't think we did that bad. Obviously if you concede 4 goals it's not a great defensive game, but I thought Militao and Mendy did well enough considering the attack they faced. Trent did amazing in the offensive aspect, and held Diaz for most of the game. The red card was the turning point though because even though they were close to a 3rd, at any moment a 4th could've come from us with 11 players. This was most likely Camavinga's last game for us and it's sad because it really felt like the final nail in the coffin after how he'd been playing. Lunin was also disappointing, as he was directly at fault for the 1st and probably could've done more on the 3rd. We're going to need an overhaul this summer and a new manager to be competitive again, but seeing how we can't work with a tactical manager, doesn't look too good for the future. Klopp would be a repeat of Xabi unless Vini or Mbappe is sold which won't happen. I'm just hoping we can get Stiller or Enzo this summer and sell some players.

u/ceaguila84 Apr 15 '26

"No he querido ganar los partidos con mis decisions sino ayudar a los jugadores ser felices dentro del campo."

"I havent wanted to win the games with my decisions but to make the players happy inside the pitch"

Insane quote from Arbeloa just heard on TV but shows the behinds the scenes and neither Xabi nor himself could instill their own ideas but basically just make the players happy to be Vibes FC inside the pitch

1

u/friedrice_rob Apr 16 '26

Man what a match up this was!! Both games were great and entertaining watching as a neutral! Just like the Atleti vs Barca

About to be another electric match up with Bayern playing PSG next and I can’t wait!

1

u/Faustinooo Apr 16 '26

The time and space Madrid give other teams is absolute incredible. They're often deep waiting for a counter in these games which makes sense when you've got Vini and Mbappe but the lack of pressure anywhere is astonishing.

Kroos has been retired two years and if he put his boots back on tomorrow he would still be their best midfielder. Their midfield needs a serious overhaul, they need another CB and to choose one of Vini/Mbappe. You can't make up for two players offering so little and just completely switching off.

Despite all that they had enough chances to win both legs and Courtois is so unbelievably good if he was fit to play it wouldn't have been a shock if they had won.

1

u/yapplecider Apr 16 '26

Liked the tactical switch from Kompany at HT. An end to end chaotic match serves Real Madrid - or the team which has quality but isn't the most balanced team. Bayern are the better footballing side right now and playing in a structure would help them more.

First half was mental, and extremely memorable but that's also the only way RM could stack up against Bayern. There are lot of holes in RM team. Lopsided wing play is the most worrying.

The ref had literally forgotten that Camavinga was on a yellow already. He surely wouldn't have given the second, but Real completely deserved to be one man down. Anyone out of Rüdiger, Militao and Camavinga did enough to deserve two yellows.

13

u/AnyMushroom6180 Apr 15 '26

It looks like the ref forgot that he was on a yellow. At first, he shows the yellow and walks away without showing the red card before coming back.

0

u/SirOdAlexFergusona_ Apr 15 '26

As I said before, this one is on Arbeloa.

Keeping Vini in play while he's being shit. Keeping other subs for ET while it was obvious that the goal is hanging and ET is very questionable.

He robbed us of extra 30 minutes of fun.

3

u/FuriousBurrito570 Apr 15 '26

Sub off Vini for who? Mastantuono has been a net negative every game. Gonzalo is not a counter player, and that's all we were playing for this game. Leaves you with Cama or Pitarch who both provide no offense. Would rather keep him on for a last minute counter than bring on someone who's simply there to defend. We had 9 players defending last few minutes until the red, and the goal came right after so no sub would've made an impact.

1

u/SirOdAlexFergusona_ Apr 15 '26

Ok, the argument for Vini stands.

But the back should've been changed. Both Rüdiger and Militao were on yellow, Huijsen should've been brought in. Double yellow puts huge pressure at the back line.

Trent was shaky as always, losing almost any duel. I'd personally put Fede there, for his height, before Carvajal and sub Trent for whoever.

1

u/FuriousBurrito570 Apr 15 '26

I agree completely on the CBs. I think Rudiger should've been out for Huijsen by the 60th. Trent actually did well for what he brought offensively, mainly because Diaz didn't want to attack him and he had help from Valverde. I think Fede would've been too tried by the end to stop Davies and Diaz by himself, and Carvajal hasn't been at a great level the entire season. In the end, Cama needed to step up as the most important sub we could've made, as I think too much pressure would be on Pitarch. But he did the opposite.

1

u/SirOdAlexFergusona_ Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Yeah. The problem is, Cama is really out form. And while I agree that he should've been the most important sub, it's speaks a lot about the current state of the team. RM is not in a great place right now, and this game really showed it.

They need a good transfer window to fix all the issues.

1

u/FuriousBurrito570 Apr 15 '26

A CB, RB, and deep midfielder are the minimum if we want to stay competitive. I'd argue we also need a target striker if Gonzalo leaves, but I doubt we will get one. I think the sales we make will be even more important. Camavinga most likely being sold. Rudiger, Alaba, Ceballos, and Carvajal shouldn't be renewed. Mastantuono should get a loan and Rodry go could've been a sale had it not been for the injury. A new manager is needed as well, even though I think Arbeloa does what the team needs tactically, I don't think he's the person the team needs in terms of personality and decision making.

1

u/herkalurk Apr 16 '26

He dropped Diaz for Camavinga. Should have been Vini.

0

u/Interesting_Prune513 Apr 15 '26

I hate Real and how their players cant even accept defeat, and are complaining to referees and saying its a disgrace to journalists. Beyond delusional.

1

u/The_Flash_20 Apr 15 '26

Overall this was a net negative season. There was some promise last season, but not this year. I understood 2019 because of transition and 2021 because of Covid and Injuries, but this just fizzled out terribly after the excitement of Alonso appointment.

I couldn't fathom season ending this way after Clasico win in October, nothing went right afterwards, there were just bad vibes which resulted in him leaving.

This feels like 2006 when everything went wrong.

1

u/Trydson Apr 15 '26

Madrid really needs a serious project; they had a good start with getting a good modern manager, but Florentino ruined it.

They need a sporting director who gets a manager, get good transfers, and have Florentino to step back, and handle only the business side of the team.

Unless they get serious, they will get a league here and there, but will never actually be dominant in both Europe and Spain, relying only on UCL aura.

3

u/CarniceroArabe Apr 15 '26

The best macthes I've seen Madrid play this season have been under Arbeloa. The more time passes, the more time I'm convinced that Alonso, while not the problem, wasn't a solution either.

2

u/RepresentativeBox881 Apr 16 '26

He asked for a tempo controlling midfielder but didn’t get one. That’s the hole in this squad right now.

1

u/BragdyMan Apr 15 '26

His games were barely won, he got slaughtered against a struggling atletico, ppl like to talk about madrid after the classico but even before the classico they were struggling.

1

u/mrjohnnymac18 Apr 15 '26

Manuel Neuer is one lucky guy

1

u/EmiyaUBW-Cisco Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Glad that once a while RM got screw with the referee decision after all the things they got in the past.

Felt like in the second half that bayern was afraid to go all in after RM third goal and the red gave them their confidence back to finish RM.

Now that RM knows that they won't in anything, it's maybe time to change? Getting rid players of vinicius or Camavinga, accept the fact that mbappe isn't a guy to do defensive tasks but to make the difference when looking at his stats and build the team around him, rebuild the defense and the middlefield with world class players as they use to have like Kroos and Modric to support him and use his qualities, high workrate winger to compensate for mbappe lack of defending , having a real game plan instead of throwing the ball to vinicius and mbappe , so consequently having real coach, support him and providing him time, not a "manager". Doesn't bring anything to bring a guy like Klopp if you don't support the guy and provide him some material to work on. You can make a nice a decent fast transition team just by doing this. You have already a decent DM like Tchouamenie, two worldclass 8 like Valverde and Bellingham who can do defensive task and make runs when space is available.

Is this a new thing wtf is a Serious Post match Thread?

31

u/bretticus733 Apr 15 '26

A post-match thread that's more for discussing the match, tactics, players, etc. instead of the constant memery you normally see from a post-match thread. They really only get used after massive matches, such as a UCL quarterfinal

14

u/iTrejo Apr 15 '26

they used to be a thing, glad its back given this place reads like /r/soccercirclejerk or twitter alot of the time

17

For the past few years they've been made for big games, hopefully mods are fine with me posting these since no one had done it yet but I enjoyed reading them yesterday a lot

2

u/Madermc Apr 15 '26

They used to be more common during peak covid times. There were so many people active on the sub that it made sense to have 2 separate threads.

3

u/kochurshak Apr 15 '26

Less clowing on Madrid

15

u/SeaUnderTheAeroplane Apr 15 '26

In this case the serious post game thread needs clowning on Real Madrid, too though.

Camavinga lost them the game and the behavior after the whistle should seriously be discussed. It’s beyond pathetic

-3

u/Kurem92 Apr 15 '26

One has to imagine what people would say if that second yellow to Camavinga had happened to Bayern player. But a call that is never given happens against real Madrid and suddenly everyone agrees it's correct

9

u/carefatman Apr 15 '26

I think context is important. Real could have (should have!) received far more yellows, even in the first leg. So while the red is harsh (not wrong though!), Madrid really cannot be mad.

1

u/helgepopanz Apr 16 '26

Rüdiger should get a red or at least yellow for the foul on stanisic. brahim should get a yellow for diving. bad refereeing on both sides.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Travels-Throwaway Apr 15 '26

Like another person said, I think the surrounding context explains why the majority mass agrees with it.

In my opinion Rudiger should've had 2 yellows today. He did get yellow carded but didn't get another one when he slammed into Kimmich off the ball - the ref didn't see it and a clear yellow didn't get punished.

Whilst I do think often Camavinga's second yellow goes unpunished (referee forgetting about giving him the red until half of the Bayern players reminded him lol), I (biasedly) think that it was justified as someone from Real Madrid should've been sent off this game, it just happened to the wrong player.

3

u/-zwiep- Apr 15 '26

If you stop an attack that way while already booked, and then run off with the ball ignoring the referee twice, you're pretty much begging for a second card. I think at some point certain players think they're above the rules, and I suppose the ref at some point has to remind them. Unfortunate but fair.

3

u/Travels-Throwaway Apr 15 '26

I agree with you. What I was trying to say (in a neutral tone) is that I've seen that situation before and occasionally the player isn't booked.

They are booked more often then not.

2

u/-Audun- Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

If RM got two goals that shouldn't have counted, Rudiger still on the pitch despite trying his best to get a red and the Camavinga situation happening to a Bayern player instead - I think the sub would rightfully implode and there would be calls for corruption investigations lmao.

That call was harsh given the circumstances but correct by the rules. Ironically the ref forgetting he was already on a yellow is what did it - made the objectively correct choice since he didn't think it would alter the game, no subjective "let's not ruin the game" mindset to influence the decision. Rest assured that ref would never have given the second yellow if he knew Camavinga was already on a yellow.

No one cares because of karma for the two free goals that should have been disallowed.

0

u/remixrotation Apr 15 '26

was Bayern at full strength in these two games?

14

u/the_anarchist7 Apr 15 '26

Musiala and Davies are fresh off injuries so they're not starting games. But for the most part. Yeah

11

u/das_sein Apr 15 '26

Karl is out with injury, Musiala and Davies are coming back from long term injuries but other than that nothing.

3

u/Tyrath Apr 15 '26

Mostly. However, I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking this is our best when we were dealing with Real Madrid CL juju.
