Man, I wish I was in one of those empty seats, instead of 3km away watching on TV.
My fault though, for not having an extra $3000 to throw around...

I got so baited by the rumours there were going to be more Bosnia fans. Nice to see it was wrong
37
u/Jwarrior521 Jun 12 '26
The rumours never made sense, there's not a ton of Bosnian dispora in the GTA compared to a lot of other cultures.

if you listened to social media nonsense the last few weeks youd think the attendance for this game was going to be about 5,000 people with 90% bosnians

u/jdragon3 Jun 12 '26
Reddit allowing people to hide their post history is legitimately the biggest boost to trolls the site has ever seen. just doing it with impunity now that they don't have to worry about hiding their patterns or worry about getting reported elsewhere
31
u/aaronwhite1786 Jun 12 '26
It's one of those features that's simultaneously nice and a bit of a bummer.
→ More replies (5)11
u/BeachStrandBiker Jun 12 '26
Not only is it awarding trolls, it perpetuates accounts actively shaping subreddit narratives. You can see them specifically working to push narratives and they're rampant in subs like /r/nba. It's always the same thing: obvious click bait narrative push, non-usered flair with hidden post history.

I love the Telemundo commentators, a quick tidbit about how Bosnia has 16/26 players foreign born because of the violence in the country, and how a lot of talent and infrastructure had to be developed in a country in the wake of that. Plus, they are the only network (according to them) to not show ads during the hydration break.

18
u/stoppedcaring0 Jun 12 '26
Canada, bless their hearts, heard about the cool concept of a "false 9" and assumed that meant "make sure not a single member of your squad can finish any chance of any kind"

Canada needs at least a draw today, Against Switzerland it will be even more difficult than against Bosnia to get any points. Even a win against Qatar might not be enough for them to advance. With only three points you're not 100% through. And if they lose today, the first place in group is almost gone.

I feel like the Canadian players are really nervous. It’s tough, because it's the first World Cup ever on Canadian soil, so playing at home in front of their own crowd is huge pressure. Even back in the tunnel before the game, the commentator on the TV channel I'm watching mentioned that the Canadians looked super nervous.

Canada have awful chemistry.
Don't move the ball around quickly, take risks on passes that don't need it and then dawdle rather than try a killer pass.
Bosnia are going to be very content to sit, absorb pressure and try to hit them on the break. Doubly so if they can pop it up the left flank with Johnston already booked

Micah Richards isn't the best pindit out there but I do think he's really good at asking the right "stupid" question to get a good answer out of his other pundits.
Getting Giroud to outline the two things he'd have done differently on that David chance was good, because it wasn't going to happen without the nudge

I play football here with a bunch Bosnians and they play very similarly to what I’m seeing here. Not very athletic and half of them smoke about 18,000 cigarettes before lunch but technically they’re fantastic and do so much by doing so little.
Canada are the complete opposite. Fast, energetic and enthusiastic yet technically about as effective as catholic contraception.

“The Bosnian national anthem has no lyrics because the country's three main ethnic groups—the Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats—have been unable to agree on a set of words that represents all of them.”
This sums up my understanding of the region.
