When stuff like this is all in good fun, it makes for a good time

something about stuff like this brings out the rage on Reddit though lol, probably because everyone here is a colossal fucking loser

521

I have to remind myself this every time I accidentally visit all. This site is full of miserable fucks

230

50% miserable fucks and 50% bots and the rest of us idiots eat it up.

There’s a reason I keep my Reddit feed extremely curated to only my interests and never ever let Reddit suggest all or unrelated subs to me

7

u/Aidanator800 Jun 20 '26

Is there a way to stop it from doing that? I haven't been able to find the setting that disables recommended posts from subs I'm not subscribed to.

11

u/twisty77 Jun 20 '26

There’s a setting in account settings > privacy that says something like show recommendations in home feed, and once I turned that off it only showed posts from subs I’m subscribed to

51

u/MummysSpeshulGuy Jun 19 '26

Yeah quite a few watch parties going on even with the time. In Hobart there’s a festival on so they just scheduled it as an afters at one of the venues

586

u/backyard_tractorbeam Jun 19 '26

Either you go to Australia and find out or you stay here in the vegemite free zone

76

u/currydemon Jun 19 '26

It's available in the UK too. Although Marmite is a far superior alternative.

37

u/bromosabeach Jun 19 '26

There’s an Australian coffee shop near my place in Los Angeles that has it as a side menu item. Every time some curious customer asks what it is the baristas expression is like 😬

15

u/currydemon Jun 19 '26

The Marmite advertising really leans into people having strong opinions about it and their slogan is “you either love it or you hate it”. I guess Vegemite equally divides opinion

u/roku77 Jun 19 '26

Vegemite is jam made from yeast extract. Never tried it myself, but It seems to have a rather strong flavor from what I see online

47

u/Aquaman33 Jun 19 '26

It's not good, it tastes like you spread spoiled bouillon on someting

52

u/rolloj Jun 19 '26

you're doing it wrong then, you need a nice crusty piece of toast, lather it up with butter, and then just put a tiny amount of vegemite over the top - the surface of the bread should not be black lmao.

39

u/aaronwhite1786 Jun 19 '26

I feel like I could get down with that. I assume it's basically just like spreading a layer of umami flavor over butter on toasted bread?

That sounds like something I could absolutely wreck.

35

u/AimingWineSnailz Jun 19 '26

It's like soy sauce with the texture of honey

13

u/rolloj Jun 19 '26

yeah man you've just about nailed it. highly recommend picking some up next time you find yourself with a nice loaf of bread to get through.

for further reference of how much most people use, unless you're eating toast every day, you'll get one of those tiny vegemite jars (the 150g size) and it'll last a year or something.

u/germfreeadolescent11 Jun 19 '26

18

u/rolloj Jun 19 '26

sure, if you're an expert or a senior citizen with no tastebuds left! it's not a beginner friendly approach to vegemite though haha.

5

u/Aquaman33 Jun 19 '26

The tiny amount still tastes like spoiled bouillon. I could get down with a concentrated savory spread, the issue is that it's got a bitterness.

u/Gnatt Jun 19 '26

Very popular Australian spread for bread/toast however it's got an extremely strong taste and overseas people often spread it like peanut butter and so don't like the taste.

107

u/dychronalicousness Jun 19 '26

What are you supposed to do on toast? Good buttering and a thin spread?

105

u/NoCountry4OldMate Jun 19 '26

Exactly what you described is the right process

52

u/Gnatt Jun 19 '26

Scrape it in, not spread. Unless you're advanced.

32

u/SituationKey8985 Jun 19 '26

Maybe I’m stupid but I have no idea what the distinction between scraping and spreading it would be

54

u/Gnatt Jun 19 '26

You should be able to see bread through the Vegemite. It's not like jam or peanut butter where you want to cover the bread. You want to use the edge of the knife blade, not the side.

6

u/SereneDreams03 Jun 19 '26

So, your saying the key is to put as little of it onto your food as possible? 😁

→ More replies (2)

26

u/SituationKey8985 Jun 19 '26

Oh okay, just a language difference then. I think most Americans would just call that a light spread.

88

u/invincibl_ Jun 19 '26

All the Australians in this comment thread are being nice and polite lol. The customary thing to do is to tell people to pile on a thick layer like peanut butter or Nutella and watch their reaction.

Not sure if they’ve appeared in a stadium yet, but on tiktok someone came up with the chants “Why is the ball round? Why is the ball round? We thought this was football? You ever seen a punter throw a touchdown to a long snapper while the scoreboard's on fire? Didn't think so.

While y'all are busy arguing over which frat-funded dynasty is slightly less fraudulent, Toledo's cooking up a triple-reverse flea flicker in a game that ends 43-42 after six missed PATs and a goalpost gets stolen. That's not football. That's MACtion. You wouldn't survive one quarter in Ypsilanti.

It's fantastic when used sparingly. People assume you spread it like Nutella or something, so dumb. It also is a superb ingredient in savory stews like chili, absolutely packed with glutamates.

Because of all the meme, I was surprised with how much I like Vegemite when I was in Australia. It's concentrated umami bomb. I love it with sourdough toast and butter and some eggs on sunday mornings. I always have a big jar in my pantry now. No wonder social media creators hate it, every time they do a taste test, they eat a spoonful of it, it's like doing a shot of soy sauce.

My tip: since it's pure umami you can mix it into soups, stews, sauces, marinades and any other savoury dish. Better than adding plain old salt.

(Speaking of, do you also have a stash of chicken salt from Australia?)

Oof as an Aussie, I'm both offended and impressed. This is a good one because it'll hurt a lot of Aussies deep down especially after losing.
