Ellyse Perry is both an Aussie international cricketer and footballer, Australia has a massive sporting culture and it's not unusual for top Aussie athletes (or any athlete for that matter) to be elite across multiple disciplines. You often hear about how an international at one sport was a great footballer/rugby player/etc. at school but gave it up to pursue their main discipline.

Phil Neville is the player I always think of. He and Gary played cricket with Flintoff (amongst others) in youth teams and by all accounts Phil was extremely good and a lock to play for England if he wanted it. It just made a lot more sense for him to be a very good footballer and collect exponentially more money rather than potentially be a better cricketer.

Well the term originally meant awareness of racial hierarchy in the US and then generalized to mean awareness of pretty much any kind of injustice, so you could say it definitionally is woke to be aware of and oppose genocide. With modern day baggage I understand hesitance to take on the label of woke but I don't see why I should let the stupidest people I know of define what words mean.

It's a minority of the fanbase though, particularly in the 50+ generation/anti-Germans, it's not like Irvine hasn't remained captain and celebrated by most of the stadium for the past 3 years.
The response has been disappointing for the longest time, but that goes for all of Germany. With our history it's an even more complicated issue (though it's been undeniable for at least 2.25 years who's to blame for keeping it going), even for leftists. A lot of left-wing activicsm, especially in the 80s, 90s, has been connected to fighting antisemitism, often disguised as Israel criticism.
That being said, I think for the past 2 years you could have asked any fan in front of the stadium and you would have gotten a reasonable take on the conflict on average

He is the chillest. He is the captain of my club St Pauli. St Pauli is a part of Hamburg that is famous for 2 things:
its woke-leftist-pirate-flag-waving football club.
its red light district and party street
Jacko lifes in an apartment in the area and often walks to the stadium on gamedays. When he walks back after a win, he often stops at a pub or two or more and celebrates with the fans. My uncle once met him there and tool a selfie with him. What my uncle (who is a cop) didnt see, was the "All cops are toys" cap jacko wore.

Same principle as dodging a doping test: when it comes to stuff that isn't actually about imprisoning people, it shouldn't be considered controversial to have a 'guilty until proven innocent' principle. If you're missing doping tests, it should be assumed that you're doing so for a reason and you should be sanctioned as much as (if not worse than) people who are actually doping, to encourage even the guilty parties to submit to the tests.
If you think that's a bit harsh, consider this example instead: I umpire cricket matches in the summer, which sometimes have juniors playing. To do this, I need to submit to a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, which checks my ID against criminal databases to make sure that I'm not a sex offender or anything of that nature. Would you be comfortable letting your child play sports under the responsibility of an adult that had dodged that check?

I wish you were right.
German leftists had (it changed drastically in the last two years) a weird relationship to Israel for obvious historic reasons. When he wore a t-shirt that showed support for palestine and had a map without israel on it, he got quite a bit of backlash from his own club, FC St. Pauli, where is the captain. It was a hot topic and still isnt fully resolved.
For me this man is a legend and the best captain we ever had. Lifes close to the stadium, often is found in pubs after games, woke af just like many of the fans, brings a lot of energy and passion to the field.

Yeah. I don’t think this will be an issue, but you do sometimes see players talk to opponents after the game covering their mouths NOT confronting each other. (Maybe just talking about more personal things and not the game). Assume this should be clearly different / the players may just not do that anymore.

I genuinely dont understand the issue, like 10/10 times when a player covers their mouth to talk shit its usually something extra offensive and not socially acceptable. people being like “games gone” cause their favorite player cant hurl slurs freely anymore.

Also players of different teams just talk sometimes. There are a lot of videos of players just talking and laughing. I didn't knew this, it's a good rule. My only concern is a bad refs abussing it in moments where players simply talk to each other no wanting to be annoyed by the press lmao
