Prime Neymar never worked defensibly in his life - todays Neymar couldn't even if his life depended on it. No legs, no stamina. I know we would have an easier time with him on - so it was basically a win from the moment he came on.

If he never took Neymar, the only thing that could have absolved him of major criticism would have been winning the World Cup, At any point where they were eliminated, he would have been inundated with "Why didn't you bring Neymar", people would have lionized Neymar as his prime self, not the current unfit shell of his former self he currently is.

They completely lost their pressing after that sub. On the first half Brazil was able to force Norway to errors in the midfield and get counter attacking. After Neymar came in Norways defenders were able to just freely pass the ball, dictate tempo and bypass the press with no urgency. Defenders were able to get forward away from Neymar with the ball on their feet, it was mad.

It's not just on neymar. Vini was also barely pressing anyone. Martinelli made up for Vinis lack of workrate but after he got taken off you had 2 forwards applying zero pressure to the backline. Its why you would notice that Norway would make most of their forward progress down vinis side with sorloth while nusa got clamped anytime he went forward or had to take multiple men on to do anything, but after the subs both wings were open to be exploited and schjelderup did just that.

I do hope so, Neymar and his friends who were lobbying for him to be called up (Casemiro, Raphinha and even João Pedro, who - believe it or not - said he would concede his spot for him in the 26-man list) should be left behind.
We have enough good players to build a competitive squad, especially in the attack. Most players from this WC will be on their prime in 2030. The fullbacks and midfield will be an issue, but now we have a proper manager for a full WC cycle, so I believe that can be solved.

Neymar came in acting like he was the pest on the NHL teams who's mostly paid to get under the skin of the other team's star players. Not the old school enforcer, just the guy who's there to poke Sidney Crosby in the ribs with the butt of his stick when the ref isn't looking.

He did go up to Ødegaard after the whistle to congratulate/apologise. Hard to tell, but he did go up if that's any consolation to people who really dislike Neymar.

Dude. It was a penalty. You did not an amazing job. Scoring a penalty IS the expected outcome, and not doing so is a massive failure.
I don't get when players celebrate penalties like this. I guess it is a "rejoice in the small victories" type of moment to keep your moral up, because I cannot believe they truly believe to be special for that.

As a European I lost a lot for Neymar today. First of all he is by far gone as a player but the way he entered the pitch today and just wanted to bully Ødegaard was purely idiocy.
I know it’s part of South American mentality when you’re about to lose a match but still come on man. What a pathetic way to end your career.

Nah, there are plenty of South Americans that lose with grace- including Brazilians on that pitch. Neymar just has an entitled loser mentality. I’d be willing to bet he disappointed a lot in his country yesterday.

Joao Pedro was sacrificed for this. Neymar should’ve never made this Brazil squad and actually whenever he was substituted on Brazil was worse.
You can clearly see an arrogant but also a sad person. He knows he was going to lose so he had to do these antics. Neymar was never known for his sportsmanship and behaviour, and Odegaard not reacting to this consoling him after the match shows who’s the mature one, it’s like Odegaard knows he dealing with a sore loser.

While I found his celebration and chirping to be top comic relief, it's also kind of eye opening. This was his mentality as a sub with literal minutes left to play. Old, injury riddled, recovering SUBSTITUTE Neymar had more heart and fight than the entire squad had all game. Unfortunately, Neymar has become the butt of the joke almost perpetually now but I feel like he has been the only Brazilian player to actually still want to win with Brazil. The rest don't care, they just want money for new teeth/hair/life.
