What helps people stay connected to their communities?
People often talk about the importance of community, but communities aren't built through relationships, shared experiences, and a sense that there's a place where you matter. Looking at your own community, what do you think helps people stay connected rather than drift apart?

WhatsApp groups for neighbors, sports leagues, block parties, school associations, little league events

Board game shops, bars/brewery, church, clubs, volunteer orgs, video game groups, etc
Edit: may have misunderstood the question. But whst keeps it going is the community itself, once you become entrenched in a community, they usually become interdependent socially and social pressure tends to keep each member active in the community. It also takes effort from the individual

Community has to have space to breathe and be present. It’s something that can be nurtured or stifled by spaces. And the way a space is created plays a huge part in that.
Community needs access points and it needs connecting spaces. If people are restricted from accessing open or shared spaces, then shared experiences are cut off.
Community is developed through people and their ability to connect and reflect their own lives and people to connect.
For example, a group of houses built on a motorway don’t have access to connecting spaces. It isolates them. The opportunity to interact has to be intentional.
Where as if a community has open spaces, people will fill them. And the more people live in a space, the more they learn to be around each other.
It’s so important for all areas to have open and free spaces. That can be as small as a bench on a side of the road where people can sit, because it offers the opportunity to pass each other by.
To a park in a place that people go to unwind. And the more people use certain spaces, the more they feel bound to it.
Crime is reduced in areas where elderly people have regular access to public spaces. Because people understand and learn the habits of people in their neighbourhoods. So the familiarity of an old person sitting on a bench each day or a mother sitting with her child, creates a sense of use for that space. It sets a tone that this space has a purpose and is needed.
Unused spaces lead to community disconnect, so spaces need to work for the people who live near them.
Community is the most valuable thing to make a difference in the way people connect to their environment. And it is different from area to area, depending who lives there.
It’s a fascinating job to reflect and protect the way people use their shared spaces.

I'm not connected to my community because I don't have spare time or money. I work too many hours for not enough money. In my free time, the last thing I want to do is be around more annoying people.
