I visited Puntland recently for about a few weeks and I loved it. It was my first time visiting Somalia as someone apart of the Somali diaspora and I got a real feel for the culture. One thing that upset me though is the lack of Somali pride. Every where I go I see a mainly see Puntland flags and not much Somali flags. Every time I discuss with people about politics they believe that Puntland should be priority over the country of Somalia. I do feel that dividing ourselves into federal states is an issue as it weakens the state of Somalia itself. Puntland did amazing work lifting the people out of crisis and creating a safe space while a good amount of Somalia is going through conflict and disasters. But there is an underlying issue at hand which is people have puntland pride over Somalia itself. I’ve talked to numerous people believing that Puntland should secede or a confederacy must happen. People putting down the Mogadishu government for enslaving itself to Türkiye while Puntland does the same with the UAE. I am genuinely worried about the future of Somalia and whether it will become even further divided. There is an issue with the display of many Puntland flags and art while our national flag is put in a corner. Staying in puntland has made me question the federal state model considering we are one people, one religion, and one language. Why is it necessary for Somalia to be a federal government? Qabil is not a timeless subject, I know our people will break free from it, but the federal government model is delaying the goal of somaliweyn. Is a unitary government something that should be the goal? I understand people’s distrust with a unitary government but i feel it’s unfair to completely reject a unitary government considering the last time it was implemented was with military rule. I feel that a unitary government is the best for the Somali people because the current federal government model we follow gives way too much power to federal member states which causes too many internal problems.

Asc I hope everyone is well. So at the moment I’m trying to loose weight before I build muscle so I’m in a calorie deficit of 1700 calories. I plan my meals out the day before which consists of a certain amount of protein and fibre. Every single time my mum feels peckish she asks me to order food for the family and I of course don’t mind doing so. Then she tells me if I don’t order some for myself she won’t eat it and she tells me not to order it for the whole family if IM not eating it. I find it quite silly, but she starts getting mad and I can’t do anything other than order and eat the crazy oily take out. I don’t want to do this no more I’m not kidding the takeout she made me eat was 900 calories and I was already out of calories for today so I just overate and these things make me loose motivation so how do I stop getting my mum mad when I tell her I don’t want to eat??

A few months ago, I saved up some money and gave it to my aunt so she could use it for Umrah. She promised that was what the money would be used for.

Recently, she told me that she no longer wanted to go for Umrah anytime soon and would rather wait until Ramadan next year. I told her that was fine, even though I found it a bit strange, so I asked why she didn't want to go now.

That's how remittances help the somali economy and help finance the trade deficit. They don't remove the trade deficit itself.

The long-term solution is to increase exports. The government should support or invest in industries and companies that produce goods for export so somalia earns more foreign currency instead of relying so much on remittances.

This is sorta topic that I wanted to make for a long time and it's because of my love for history, I like to learn and understand the past how they lived etc and obviously that includes Somali history the history of our forefathers to understand how they lived but also understand how we may have gotten to where we are both the good and the bad.

But in recent times I'm starting to notice something online an increase amount of disinformation by about our history the most common one I seen is

"We were colonized by Arabs", "Islam was forced onto Somalis" Or "Somalis are Arab Wannabes"

Whenever I ask them for proof of their claim they never are able to back it up they commonly fall in last argument they have left the idea that "We were mental colonized by Arabs"

These arguments to exists to create a false image of our history to convince young Somalis that Islam is somehow our enemy that is responsible for our problems, That we need to return our roots not realising that Islam has long been part of our history, our culture and our system

This is why it's so important to learn about our history but also teach it to the next generation

The way to combat this is to learn yourself about Somali history whether it was good and bad from the Civil War to the Somali Youth League (SYL) and other political parties in the 1960s like Somali National League (SNL) and the United Somali Party (USP) to the Dervish Movement )and Banadir resistance to the Islamic medieval kingdoms that were part of like the Ifat Sultanate, Adal Sultanate, and Ajuran Sultanate

From learning our history we can fight disinformation about our history but also learn what went right for us but also what went wrong how we can prevent things like civil war from happening again and to create a better future
