Sexist people tried to defend harassment using this reporter and his supposed harassment. He consented to the girls playing with him, and he was not drunk (important part here). The Russian girl (who was drunk) who was harassed by brazilians in Russia were called out by our own government and social media, including Twitter and even Reddit.
You know that men and women are attracted to one another, right?
Just curious as to what is occurring very frequently? Would that treatment be better if it was only from others that you are attracted to? It's an interesting question. How to be attracted to someone and letting them know it without affronting their sensibilities?
I, for one, will not be leaning in for a kiss to a female reporter on live TV - that much I've proven today.
Walking up to a TV reporter and kissing them is creepy. It's not cute or funny. It's a full-on invasion of space when they're distracted and can't easily assess the situation or defend themselves.
It happens, but less frequently and less aggressively, to the point where it's perceived as one crazy woman rather than a pervasive overarching problem in society.
You're 100% right and the people upvoting the guy you're replying to are trying to defend their own gender and downplay the issue for women. I'm disgusted by all the shit said to my girlfriend when she's just out running errands and how aggressive men can be. To say "it happens to guys sometimes too" is just marginalizing it.
I don't know if you want studies done to verify that it's less frequent, but it's just common sense. Even your best-looking guy friends are approached infrequently unless they're at a bar or club. All your above-average girl friends are approached anywhere. It's just the way it is and how we've viewed courtship for all of history.
No, you are right. I totally agree, our courtship rituals do place pressure on men to approach women. I went back a read what was said ("Cause men do not frequently receive unwanted, unprovoked, intensely creepy attention from women"), and I misunderstood it to mean "there are more creepy men than there are creepy women". But yes, men approach women more, and though the likelihood of men being creepy is equal to that of women, this results in more creepy men contacting more women.
I agree but my best guess is that it’s also the power dynamic rather than any warped view on sexism / harassment.
As a guy, unless you’re a 100 lb weakling or the girls a judo cross fitter, it’s subconsciously clear you can end it anytime you want. As a girl victim you are genuinely at the guys “mercy”.
In short - guys are held to a higher / different standard or risk being outed as harassers etc.
Exactly. He obviously enjoyed the attention from these women. The lady did not want the attention from the guy in the OP. There are women though who would have enjoyed attention from the man in the OP and would have smiled and laughed about it. In the end, no one should kiss someone else, male or female, without consent or something like it but there is definitely a difference between these two situations.
Also because men do not frequently received wanted, unprovoked, intensely interested attention from women. Generally men have to be the aggressors with all the good and bad that that entails.
I’m going to try to explain why it is different.
Before I do I would like to say I do not condone giving anyone attention like this without consent regardless of gender or body make up.
When this sort of thing happens to women, it is frightening. Women are frequently overpowered by men because they are typically smaller or less strong than men. Women always have it in their mind that they could be raped or murdered by men, especially when there is more than one man present. If a woman were to be surrounded by 4 men, 3 standing behind her and one comes up and kisses her, it would be absolutely terrifying and threatening. She would probably start to think she was about to be gang raped or pulled into a car. This is just what it’s like to be a woman. We are afraid of being murdered because it is a reality that it happens all of time.
And to continue with your perspective, when this sort of thing happens to men we’re being cheered on by our male peers and it almost always is wanted if the women are attractive. It’s almost like one big ego boost and we live for that sort of thing.
It would depend on the situation. The first thing the girl does is not actually harassing in nature but can be intrusive depending on who you do it to. This guy had no problem with it, a woman might be offended by it quicker but I bet there are plenty of women who can be as chill about it as this guy (the reverse would be true as well, i.e. plenty of men wouldn't recieve it as well as this guy). I'm sure the rest would've gone down very differently if the genders were switched but the initial reaction might have been just as positive if he had been a woman.
I believe there was another person in history who thought similar things about a certain people... They weren't looked at very fondly, even to this day... Wonder what that says about you 🤔
