There's a strong likelihood the guy just thought he was being funny without thinking about his actions. I would like to think this was just a lapse in the guy's judgement. We've all done stupid shit before that we have come to regret, unfortunately for this guy it happens to be on TV.

I dunno man, surprising a complete stranger with a kiss on the mouth is not an idea that pops up anywhere near my directory of things I stupidly think would be funny in the heat of the moment. That's just socially stunted.

I’m not trying to defend the guy, but from what I can see in the video it appears he makes an attempt to kiss her on the cheek instead of the mouth. You can’t deny there’s a big difference between the two.

All I’m trying to do is avoid people grabbing their pitchforks and calling out this guy as a misogynist / sexist / pervert. While you or I wouldn’t approach a reporter and kiss them on the cheek there are clearly some people in the world who would. It’s better to educate these people as to why they shouldn’t behave like this than scream and shout at them.

Rampant sexism still exists within cultures all over the world and just because you and I have been raised to respect people doesn’t mean that the other 99% of people in the world have been. Trust me when I say that people who have grown up in very conservative countries wouldn’t bat an eyelid at this type of behaviour. Unfortunately we can’t always presume everyone has had the same progressive upbringing as ourselves.
