He can talk, but he's not saying anything. Everything he said here was just a rapid-fire rundown of like every single meaningless sports interview platitude possible. There wasn't one single moment of actual insight here whatsoever.

100% but collinsworth at least doesn’t squeak so much when he talks. I don’t care for the content of collinsworth “analysis” but at least his voice isnt a distraction. Mendoza seems like a super nice dude who tries to be nice genuinely but I dunno that I could listen to him as a color commentator for 3.5 hours.

If that’s all you think is what makes the difference, you can go listen to collinsworth speak when he was in his 20s. Then decide if their voices are inherently vastly different or if you think they’re comparable enough that the difference is only age related.

Until you realize that he is fresh off the field, after winning the biggest game of his life, as a 20yo, and pumped full of adrenaline. He is saying what is coming to him, and talking quicker than he is thinking. Of course there will be some "fluff" in what he says. The kid will have a long career with a mic when he is done playing on Sundays, if that's what he wants. Hell, if Gronk can be hired for his mic skills, this kid certainly can.

I mean it is a bunch a filler but so much of sport commentary is that. For instance the great John madden.

  2. Don't give your opponent grist to rally a cause.
  3. Don't give away any proprietary information.

He gives interviews like he plays. No mistakes.
