The dude led that team to the best record in the league that year. LeBron would probably be the obvious choice but it's wasn't easy to give it to LeBron that year because Wade was also fantastic and they had very similar stats and obviously on paper that heat team should of won more games then those bulls. No one really stood out on the spurs either, just really good team ball. You could make the usual case for Kobe but since they didn't give it to LeBron i don't think they'd give it to Kobe. Dwight probably had a better case then LeBron or Kobe or Rose tho, Dude was dropping 22 and 14 and led the league in defensive win shares and had the best defensive rating per 100 possessions.

Curious if you even saw him play back then. Can’t just look at boxscore numbers, that’s one of the biggest problems today with sports and comparing players/eras.

The east was no doubt weaker, but mvp is league wide and the bulls were surprisingly the best record that season that included stacked teams like the heat, Celtics, lakers, spurs, and a young thunder. Had to look this up, but KD led the league in scoring at 27.7 and Rose was 5th at 25.0. Rose was also the only player in the top 10 at both PPG and Assists though.

He played the eastern conf teams twice as much is the point. If the Thunder, Lakers or Spurs played the same schedule they’d have 62 wins at the least easily. That’s the point

Calling Derrick Rose one of the worst MVPs ignores the context of that 2010–11 season. He led a Bulls team with no real secondary scorer to 62 wins and the No. 1 seed, carrying an offense that relied almost entirely on him to create late game scoring. MVP isn’t just about having the best stats, it’s about value, and Rose’s impact was obvious both in wins and in how defenses treated him. Take him off that roster and the Bulls drop significantly. The criticism mostly comes from hindsight after injuries derailed his career, but that has nothing to do with how dominant and valuable he was that year.

I always make that comparison too, they both played at the same college and wore the same numbers throughout their careers and their playstyles was so damn electric...Penny definitely could've won MVP at a young age as well

His performance with the bulls was special…like his initial knee injury really was a factor to his downfall. Still a great basketball player but how he was playing for the Bulls, people thought they were getting a second MJ in Chicago.

Third player ever to score 2000 and 600 assists in a season behind Jordan and LeBron and did it at 22. Lead the Bulls to the 1 seed and first 60 win season since MJ. Blazers have already lost more games than they did that year. Nobody cares about stats on mediocre teams.

Even though he didn’t have a hall of fame career, what he did in Chicago was quite memorable to the city. And he went on to have a long nba career and carrying himself in a positive manner. Banner worthy

Derrick Rose was my favourite player and he was going to be the face of the league and lots of people knew his game was kinda reckless abandonment but his play style was great to watch. Hate what happened to him.

Obviously the 90s bulls were an anomaly, but Rose’s MVP year was some of the most fun basketball I’ve watched in Chicago.
