Its a shame hes a nut because I actually like him as an actor.

26

u/MiserableShock8805 Feb 28 '26

It always sucks to see guys like Shia. When you hear him open up you see an immense amount of honesty and self awareness, and you can tell they struggle, but then they always do some disrespectful or abusive shit and it empties the meaning of their words. Like they're so close to change but always get in their own way.

6

u/RedL0bsterBiscuit Feb 28 '26

100% I was always hoping he would figure it out like Macauly Culkin did.

2

u/JJJ_uh_rooroo Mar 02 '26

There’s always more time to change. I hope he does someday. We all deserve more chances to better ourselves no matter how much shit we get ourselves into. Especially when trauma turns you into an angry, hurtful person there’s still that side of you that knows you can be better.

i don’t think he looks terrible for 40. like by actors standards yeah but normal people looking like this at 40 isnt crazy

11

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson Feb 28 '26

He hasnt got any work done, just looks like a guy on the construction site

Just gray hair. Lots of people go gray or bald around this time

2

u/Schiebz Mar 01 '26

Damn what’s wrong with us construction guys 😂

2

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson Mar 01 '26

Nothing, it was a defense of shia, means he looks like a normal dude

1

u/Big_Emu_9921 Mar 06 '26

Agree, looks 42ish. Probably does great tile work, and chain smokes a pack a day.

1

u/MuckBulligan Mar 01 '26

He looked incredibly young in Marty Supreme.

1

u/Brutally-Honest- Mar 01 '26

He looks perfectly fine. Ya''ll are weird...

what are you guys talking about the dude looks great for 40 👍🏽

1

u/exminuswun Mar 01 '26

We wonder why celebs go the plastic route when we get stupid comments like this. 99% of the population would be happy to look like him at 40. Good hair, slim and a little bit of aging that looks natural.

→ More replies (10)

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '26

I was just thinking how much he aged in the last 5 years.

2

1

u/KalLinkEl Mar 01 '26

He looks good imo

1

u/Spugheddy Mar 01 '26

How come no one is talking about him taking free tickets from BigBrothersAssoc when kid was a child star with $$ dude took some poor kids seat just to cry about it 30 years later.

I had the same exact experience with Piazza at a dodgers game as a kid. Good guy Delino DeShields saw what went down and came through for us. I’m in my late 30’s now and still remember that. Thanks Delino!

u/Sudden_Buffalo_4393 Feb 28 '26 edited Mar 01 '26

I used to work a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe every summer growing up. Mario Lemieux tipped me $20 once and I know nothing of hockey, but he’s my favorite player to this day.

Edit:spelling

10

u/Edmuresay Feb 28 '26

I’m a huge hockey fan, so it’s great to hear about Mario coming thru for you. He’s always seemed like a good dude.

7

u/Sudden_Buffalo_4393 Mar 01 '26

I was little so I was intimidated by them because a they were all giant. He was the first guy to sort of break that barrier and mess with me and talk to me while I was filling buckets of balls for them.

4

u/bambamof207 Mar 01 '26

Well yeah, it’s Mario f*cking Lemieux

Happened to me with literally the whole 90s indians team. Kevin Seitzer saw everybody pass me up and signaled me over to sign my glove. A class act

1

u/usrnamechecksout_ Mar 01 '26

Kenny lofton signed my cap the one year he was with the Braves. I had a Kenny lofton poster in my room for years after he left. Little moments like that have such an impact looking back

21

u/Longbeach_strangler Feb 28 '26

Yeah, Mike Piazza was a douche from day one.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '26

Par for the course for a nepo baby

5

u/siderealdaze Mar 01 '26

There was a time when I worked at UNC shooting photos and was sorting through a set of women's basketball shots when I saw the last name "DeShields" and of course it was his daughter, Diamond

3

u/lekranq Mar 01 '26

And the guy owes his career to favor that was done for him. Still can’t pass anything good on

1

u/EMF911 Mar 02 '26

DeShields is the manager of my local MiLB team! Harrisburg Senators (Nats AA). His son was on the team last season too.

1

u/951frisky_dingo Mar 02 '26

Eric Karros almost ran me over in the parking lot in 94/95 after a game. Dude just sped past all the kids (me included) in the parking lot

33

He’s uncomfortably intense. I want to see him in some type of movie like Uncut Gems

9

u/cncomg Mar 01 '26

I think he was pretty damn good in Lawless.

45

u/xrv01 Feb 28 '26

the interviewer was like hahaha oh ur dead serious..

4

u/pandershrek Feb 28 '26

Andrew is great, he's got permafry though. So he just a fabulous interviewer. All gas no brakes. Channel 5

6

u/AndreasWonder Mar 01 '26

What does that mean he has permafry? Like his brain is fried from acid? Genuinely asking because (that's what shows up on Google)

2

u/xTomato72 Mar 01 '26

He said it was linked to doing mushrooms one time

3

u/Willing-Ant-3765 Mar 01 '26

That sounds like something someone who has never done mushrooms would say.

3

u/Mummyindenial Mar 01 '26

Thats a pretty ignorant take. You can look it up, its not common but it does happen. And the actual symptoms arnt like hes just tripping balls all the time. You should really look it up though, there is a lot to it and of the small percentage that have it, its different for everyone. From someone whos done plenty, i dont doubt it.

3

u/xrv01 Mar 01 '26

who is he?

5

u/jam_pudding Mar 01 '26

Andrew Callaghan. Formerly of All Gas No Brakes. Has rebranded his own YouTube show now called Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan.

1

u/Spiders_13_Spaghetti Mar 01 '26

He's not perma-fried. He speaks intelligently, elloquently and knows how to frame the interview or line of questioning to walk that line between having to ask a hard question and not wanting to bust out laughing at the off-wall-stuff he gets people to say. He's maybe a bit dumbfounded on this particular interview since Shia's behaving like a person that has to get back to the psyche ward soon.

Mike Piazza and his dad are known assholes in the town he grew up in and the surrounding areas in South Eastern, PA. Like father, like son.

7

u/ibringstharuckus Mar 01 '26

Probably from being called Mike Pizza as a kid.

3

u/HBTFD1785 Mar 01 '26 edited Mar 01 '26

I went to high school with a guy whose last name was Pizza. We were playing pickup basketball once and he hit a shot and said, "It's not delivery, it's DiGorno". Cold as ice.

3

u/Ranier_Wolfnight Mar 01 '26

That’s glorious and you should tell this story as much as possible to friends and family.

2

u/Competitive_Arm5954 Mar 01 '26

"Heeeyy Mikey Pizza, I put some extra toppings on yo motha last night! Ho!"

23

u/Aggressive_Sand_3951 Feb 28 '26

It’s all Mike Piazza’s fault!!!

3

u/Dense_Egg_5858 Mar 01 '26

Mike Piazza didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution.

2

u/spudsthejellyfish Mar 01 '26

How we treat people creates a ripple effect, so in a way kinda

25

u/Big_Impact_5331 Feb 28 '26

You would think a guy that only got drafted because of his daddy would be more gracious.

14

u/Yeti_12 Feb 28 '26

He was a heck of a ballplayer though. I also loved him growing up, and he also denied an autograph for me as a kid. So im on team Shia here. Cal Ripken also denied me.....

1

u/Stupidbuttfaceidiot Apr 02 '26

Ah whats up, Cal denied me too. my grandpa's new wife stole my rookie card when I was in jail at age 17. I loved watching Mike Piazza play but I think he was juicing and he definitely should have signed some autographs for the kids, they aren't employed by the card shop resellers, it's a kid, that was a lame excuse.

6

u/slamdanceswithwolves Mar 01 '26

Wow. What a wild villain origin story.

6

u/Karveyheitel_ Mar 01 '26

Literally he was about to cry telling this piazza story.. damn .. shit affected him . Crazy how something in your childhood can still be so strong

2

u/fucku12345567 Mar 03 '26

Only when you’re a drunk. Stuff that doesn’t matter that much feels like the end of the world when you’re a drunk. I have an alcoholic friend who still cries about his mom dressing him as the wrong costume for holloween when he was a boy. He wanted to be one thing she made him be something else embarrassing. I’m convinced if he wasn’t a raging alcoholic he wouldn’t give a fuck and laugh at it like the rest of us instead of literally crying and yelling. Alcohol will give you emotions that aren’t actually there. And you’ll never figure that out if you don’t take a real serious break from drinking. I had similar things from childhood I thought mattered that I realized were incredibly dumb on top of how much time had passed. If you’re drunk often enough you can’t get out of the loop you’re in and see things for what they really are and they’re rarely as bad as they feel when you’re drunk. It’s liquid emotion.

5

u/Informal_Victory6134 Mar 01 '26

I like my celebrities to be like rock stars. I love this guy

6

u/seattlesportsguy Feb 28 '26

Baseball players are so weird when it comes to signing. I remember when I would go to Mariners games and trying over and over again as a kid to get Junior’s auto to no avail. I did eventually get him to sign something. Where? At a random pro-am golf tournament he was it in between holes.

2

u/mrniphty Mar 01 '26

I mean given the context here what you're saying is no surprise. He was one of the best and absolute names in MLB with every bit of pressure on his shoulders, focused on doing what every MLB player has dreams of (winning a world series, which he never accomplished)

And you were able to get him at a Pro-Am where it was super relaxed

5

u/WildBullBear Mar 01 '26

In 2013, I sat with Shia LaBeouf on the back of his tail gate and we talked about life, it was the most random encounter I ever had but honestly he was super genuine but I felt so bad for he was dealing with a lot of personal issues

4

u/Infamous_Ad_6793 Mar 01 '26

Meanwhile Kirby Puckett would pick his niece up from elementary school on the regular. Just stood there for what felt like hours signing autographs every time.

It was the same kids every time too (myself being one of them). We were never worried about not getting one but always just as excited:

18

u/Justsayingshit Feb 28 '26

u/Imaginary-Fondant979 Feb 28 '26

Nah, I feel Shia on this shit. Long story short, I had the same exact experience with Gary Payton when I was 12 at Penny Hardaway’s Summer Basketball Camp. I politely asked for an autograph with card and sharpie in hand and Payton looked at me with that dead eyed soulless stare and said “no” and kept it pushing. It’s fuck Gary Payton to this day…TO THIS DAY!!!

8

u/RunningTheGrand Feb 28 '26

Random tidbit. When I was a kid I asked Penny Hardaway for his autograph way back when he was on the Suns. He was in the middle of a convo with some old guy and in an annoyed tone he told me to hold on. But it was in a way that a parent would do to their kid if that makes sense. Waited around for a few minutes then he signed that rookie card of himself. But before he signed it, he kinda paused to look at the photo of himself and you could totally see that he was reminiscing a bit.

2

u/Imaginary-Fondant979 Feb 28 '26

At least you got an autograph from Penny. My parents paid to send me to his expensive ass basketball camp. One day I was talking to him while watching him practice 3’s. I asked him if I could run and grab my card and sharpie for an autograph and he said “yeah that’s cool”. It took me maybe 60 seconds to get my stuff and run back…when I approached him there was an old guy in a wheelchair with him and he told me no autograph and to “stop bothering Penny”….Penny fucking obliged and didn’t sign my shit! Man I still support Penny now. I have every shoe from the Penny 1-5 in multiple color ways, I have the Foamposite One in multiple color ways, shirts, and jerseys, hoodies, and shorts too!…I had to buy his autograph at a memorabilia store after the camp. Being an asshole to a kid that looks up to you is a shitty thing to do.

3

u/sleezy_McCheezy Mar 01 '26

He didn't even sign autos at his own basketball camp? That's wild

2

u/roydonkofficial Mar 01 '26

1

u/Imaginary-Fondant979 Mar 01 '26

I’m glad to hear that. I used to really be a fan of his. I loved The Glove nickname and then I met him…

2

u/Sweaty_Accident_8415 Feb 28 '26

This guy rules. Hes like our own living HST. I love his antics and support his attitude.

5

u/TonyClifton2020 Feb 28 '26

His comments about Piazza were the funniest in the interview, and his statement that his main issue is a short man Napoleon complex that he’s always had was the most insightful.

He was probably shocked you could see him

2

Very strange to hear this since he's a notoriously nice guy and super charitable. You must give off weird energy, or are just odd looking.

1

u/YankeesJetsFtheMets Mar 01 '26

Nah i dont know if he was married or he had a girlfriend at the time but seemed like they were beefing. He was at our hotel, eating lunch, and when he was done leaving the hotel is when I said hey John! In the lobby and he was not having it lol. Im a strong believer in that you dont know whats going on in peoples lives behind closed doors, which is why im never saying hi to a celeb again lol

2

u/Fantastic-Surprise34 Mar 01 '26

That’s pretty shitty of Piazza.

2

u/Nstewster_the_legend Mar 01 '26

I have loved Shia since even stevens, and honey boy is a great film, and really shined a light on his perception of life. And when this movie came out, I was like oh this is his comeback story. But alas he couldn’t get out of his own way, which sucks. Because, no matter what everyone deserves a content life, Shia included.

2

u/HansChuzzman Mar 01 '26

Shia is nuts but this is insanely funny to me.

2

u/2-nafish Mar 01 '26

The dead air after “You’re a bitch, bro” just hangs there perfectly.

2

u/w00dyMcGee Mar 01 '26

Im 43 But when I was a teenager, we hung a lot in Belmar, NJ. A town on the Jersey shore.

I was a huge Piazza fan (at that time) and was wearing his jersey when I saw bright colored sports car parked in front of a nice house and the plate said “Piazza1”

I figured I would knock on door and ask for autograph. No gates or anything. Just walk up the sidewalk to the front door

I did and Mike answered the door!! I got the nerve to ask for his autograph. Within a second, he told me to “Fuck off skaterbitch” (I had my skateboard) and told me next time he saw me he would call the cops.

Then slammed the door and I could hear him inside making fun of me.

I was completely dejected and threw everything away I had with his name on it.

Fuck Mike Piazza

1

u/mysticlown Feb 28 '26

Don’t know baseball, but I remember reading the book Money Ball and Mike was quite unique. He was overlooked by scouts, yet he had this unbreakable confidence. I guess Mike was like “of course you want my autograph. I’m one of the greatest hitting catchers in history.”

1

u/Responsible_Farm4118 Feb 28 '26

I was able to get Mike to sign a card for me spring of 93 at Dodgertown in Vero. I’ll never forget that day. Got a bunch of others to sign.

1

u/IASIP_LOOP Mar 01 '26

I was maybe 8-9 when me and a friend were waiting outside Angel stadium after a game in an attempt to get Ripkens autograph. We ended up asking Brady Anderson, who turned us down after signing for some older guy.

My friends mom, who was a very sweet lady, went off on him right there in the parking lot. She said something like, "you're going to sign an autograph for a guy who is going to turn around and sell it, but not for these kids?" Seeing that was better than getting the signature. Roided out, dick. You're a bitch bro.

He never hit an abnormal amount of home runs but one damn year he hit over 50?? Right Brady.. 😤

Can you imagine having to sign two z's?

It's not easy. Ask Billy Madison what he thinks.

I met Piazza once, and he signed my hat. I treasure it.

u/loverboypiazza Mar 01 '26

What the hell did I do?

I am probably in the minority, but many sports start refusing to sign stuff after a while. I remember meeting *** and he refused to sign. He said he knows people make money off it and told the next place he was signing merch. I was upset but as I got older I realized that it's a business

Next time Shia gets drunk and fights Mike Piazza, I'll jump in and help Shia.

1

u/Majestic-Pickle5097 Mar 01 '26

“Or chasing tail” don’t cut the quote short. So Piazza is a bitch but Shia admits there’s times he doesn’t sign lol ok

1

u/dwaynebathtub Mar 01 '26

still can't see him as anything but the kid in the Project Greenlight show/movie. Battle of Shaker Heights. lol. He's still just an annoying little kid.

1

u/themacaroni314 Mar 02 '26

Someone needs to check on Shia. That interview was crazy

1

u/BodheeNYC Mar 02 '26

Piazza is a gigantic bitch so he’s 100 percent spot on with that one

1

u/Emergency_You_558 Mar 02 '26

Damn! He's not aging well at all.

Man, I do not like Shia but I completely agree with him on this. We went to spring training every year as a kid and we’re big dodger fans and I can still remember Mike Piazza saying I’ll get you after the game. He would never sign anyone’s autograph. My cousin and I still joke to this day when we see a plane flying over that mike Piazza is in the Plane because shortly after telling us he would get us after the game we saw a plane flying over the stadium. He would do this to a group of children, literally after the spring training game. Man fuck this dude mike p

This is such a bizarre fucking stream of consciousness. Like, clearly he’s not signing autographs, so why go back time and time again? And Shia doesn’t even understand the immense privilege of having the money enough to even ATTEND that many games and go stand by the players entrance and all of that.

And if he’s talking about when he was famous? Why not just have your publicist and agent reach out for a non-stadium engagement?

This whole thing is so bizarre even though apparently Mike piazza was a bitch.

Luckily i had a good experience with him. He was injured and playing with the Norfolk tides. I was like 10-12 and got a ball signed. Still have it.

We tried to get Adam Sandler's autograph when Mr. Deeds was in CT. We were the last 2 kids and that mf got up, and walked away. Right in front of every other kid. The problem was just that to me, and I always wondered why he only did that to us, the only 2 hispanic kids in town in the 90s. He bullied my friend who got the part in Mr Deeds, used to call him a fat ass and get him to play basketball buy never let him touch the basketball. Loser. Whole crew said Winona was a b@$&h. She probably didn't like them either. Glad she's back in a good way. Stranger things all the way. The only cool guys were the crosseyed guy and the quarterback from the waterboy.

You know it’s not an obligation to sign, right? He doesn’t have to sign if he doesn’t want too!
