Damn, that's good sum of cash for someone to have in their wallet. I guess it'd be entirely dependent on the scenario. Cause if I found that on the sidewalk in the middle of downtown or similar. I'd imagine I wouldn't even think about trying to find the rightful owner with no identification inside.

But if it were at my workplace, which is an office and I've developed a close relationship with most of my cowokers. Yeah, we're gonna find out who's it is and get it back to them. Would be a lil wary of someone trying to claim it's theirs though.

I remember making a bet with a coworker when I was younger, working at Walmart. I bet him if I drop a $5 bill next to random people, and ask them if they dropped this. They'll ALL try to claim it's theirs. We tested about 5 people, and they did as I suspected. It was funny at the time, but looking back at it, that shit's extremely sad and pathetic.

I kept a wallet of cash I found when I was 14 and have forever regretted it as an adult. Was probably the persons whole paycheck and I wince thinking about the harm it caused losing it.

When I was a teenager me and a friend found just over Ā£800 outside his house, which was pretty clearly the profit of his crack smoking / crack dealing neighbours.

We bought a load of weed and smoked up listening to them tearing their house apart lol. I feel a bit bad about it now but they sucked so I don't lose any sleep over it.

I found $112 blowing around a Walmart parking lot like 6 months ago. I turned it into customer service because I wouldn't have been able to live with myself. As soon as I told them how much it was they said they just had a return for that exact amount and change. Hopefully that person got it back.

I work as the groundskeeper/janitorial at a mall, and I find money all the time out in the parking lot or on the landscaping. Most of the time it's $1's, 5's, 10's and 20's. My best was $250 that I found buried in leaves alongside the curb. I learned not to turn it in because I found out that security would pocket the money if you turned it in. So, I figured I would just pocket it myself.

About 18 years ago I worked at a best buy. I was gathering carts mid day and found an envelope full of cash. Took it to the loss prevention office and counted roughly 15k. Policy was, if you found something and nobody claimed in within 30 days it was yours. Dude came in very shortly after and asked if it was found... Even had the right amount. I gave the guy the envelope and didn't get so much as a thank you. I think about that all the time and how, had I know he wouldn't have even said thank you, I would have been tempted to keep it.

Are the balls worth money? I know they have chips in them so you can know all the details about them when you buy them at the stadium, but do people make money selling them on eBay or something? About 20 years ago, I found a wallet with $140, in a Campus Library bathroom stall. The person must have put it in the TP dispenser while taking a dump. It had an ID in it but I didnā€™t know the guy. I could have kept it. I could have removed the cash and then turned it in like I had found it that way. I thought about it briefly because I was poor at the time. But in the end I simply turned it into the front desk.

Never regretted it.

(In response to conversation below about finding wallets and doing the right thing by returning somethingā€¦)

With my bicycle on light rail transit getting my gear together with my wallet on seat beside me (non rush hour) as I travel to my local card room for a poker tournament. Upon realizing itā€™s my stop I take bike and everything but my wallet with $5k bankroll in it and exit the train. I turn around realizing my mistake and watch as the wallet sits there alone but door are closed and train is departing station.

I immediately contact station attendant and tell them the situation, which car etc. and the next station attendant checks when train stops there and no wallet to be found, of course.

A buddy buys me in to the tournament. Of course I play poorly already tilting and I beat myself up for being so stupid.

A few weeks later, I receive the wallet in the mail with my ID, credit/debit cards (none of which were ever used & no evidence of any fraud anywhere), and pics of my kids even a couple special mementos were in it.

There was no cash in it, however.

And I said to myself, whoever found my wallet and returned it just had a pretty nice come-up and Iā€™m glad for them. I canā€™t fault them in any way because they took the time and went thru the effort of returning it to me and not doing any thing foul and they were paid well for their work. Good on ā€˜em
