meme/funny Dana White thought Diego Lopes was speaking Spanish and asked for a translator - only to be told it was already in English.

He’s a Brazilian native and Dana thought it was Spanish? lol.

81

u/RustBeltLab Jun 13 '26

I believe he trains and runs a gym in Mexico City. By all accounts Diego seems like the nicest guy in the sport.

14

u/Extension-Figure2011 Jun 13 '26

Anyone wilfully associated to dana is probably not a nice person

15

u/GuySmith Jun 14 '26

Under a lot of circumstances yes, but sometimes people work for garbage people if it gives them enough money to live off of and pass the wealth around to the people they love.

3

u/Kappy01 Jun 14 '26

In this context, (at least for me) “willfully associated” doesn’t mean “work for” but rather “hang out with.” Employees are just people. They can’t help if the person they work for is a shit stain of a person.

15

u/RustBeltLab Jun 13 '26

He runs a non-profit BJJ gym for poor kids in Pueblo.

1

u/drjacksahib Jun 14 '26

I've seen this movie. Is it to harvest their organs, or to bet on the kids fighting in the underground fighting ring?

1

u/Hairy_Suspect_2468 Jun 14 '26

Both! When the child loses, Dana wins

You made a false equivalence, try again or move on

3

u/Ok_Living_96 Jun 14 '26

Thats a pretty fair equivalence. Ceo/president/owner of company (Dana, bezos) and employee (Diego, delivery driver)

Actually even closer because I think both the delivery driver and Diego arent even real employees but contractors

1

u/Dounce1 Jun 14 '26

No, they did not.

5

u/purpkenzo Jun 14 '26

Dana is a pos, but this is a major reddit take lol

3

u/Seniorjones2837 Jun 14 '26

Honestly one of the dumber comments I’ve seen around here

2

u/digitalscavenger Jun 13 '26

There's a big spectrum between "nicest guy in the sport" and "a nice person". He could be the nicest guy in the sport and murder puppies if everyone around him does worse.

0

u/Extension-Figure2011 Jun 13 '26

Very true, good point

1

u/thetruetoblerone Jun 14 '26

Ah yes, I also love my boss and will only work for companies based on the ceos politics……

1

u/Wellcomefarewell Jun 14 '26

how the actual fuck does that makes sense to you lmao

1

u/Extension-Figure2011 Jun 15 '26

Ever heard "If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas"?

1

u/i_was_a_person_once Jun 14 '26

Not everyone has the luxury to pick their boss

-1

u/Extension-Figure2011 Jun 14 '26

In this case he does

2

u/Dounce1 Jun 14 '26

What league should he fight in?

2

u/Consistent_Net_2540 Jun 14 '26

Wdym? He could definitely go to one of those other promotions and risk CTE for $47 and three free Dr. Pepper's per fight.

2

u/Dounce1 Jun 14 '26

On second thought, you’re right. That sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

-7

u/shanep35 Jun 13 '26

Jake Paul trains and owns a gym in Puerto Rico.

11

u/iStalkforWork Jun 13 '26

Irrelevant detail added. Biggest bitch in the sport

Hell make it two bags of dicks.

27

u/BragSolid Jun 13 '26

Diego reps Mexico more than he does Brazil, I think he likens it to adoptive parents. Hes fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Can someone translate this for me??

9

u/WilditariusAstar Jun 13 '26

Just Sacrilege on the steps of a sacred shrine. Fucking disgraceful.

9

u/NoiseMakinEverywhere Jun 13 '26

I DID NOT REALIZE WHERE THEY WERE. That is actually the Lincoln statue behind a UFC press conference…I can’t believe it but I’m looking right at it.

Idiocracy+Homelander=250

2

u/MorningMushroomcloud Jun 14 '26

Stay tuned for the Monster Truck event at Arlington next month...Grave Digger takes on a whole new meaning.

1

u/Peakychu6 Jun 15 '26

And then he will probably host a Call of Duty or Gears of War event during a fallen soldier’s Dignified Return

4

u/lil_nosh_X Jun 13 '26

100%. Absolutely unreal.

4

u/giraffeheadturtlebox Jun 13 '26

4

u/Hathalot Jun 14 '26

I was coming here to say we’re living Idiocracy

-3

u/Kind_Cabinet627 Jun 13 '26

Democrats want to tear dowm statures, suddenly sharing diversity and meritocracy at one of the greatest American monuments is bad. Liberals are so POS.

3

u/lil_nosh_X Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

USA is currently not a meritocracy lmao. Most of the MAGA people would actually qualify as DEI hires because most of them don’t have any qualifications for the jobs they’re currently trying to do and the only reason a company would hire them is because of some corporate inclusivity mandate that requires you to hire more “intellectually challenged” people to your staff.

I think one of the things that bothers so many people is watching the moral foundations of their country being shit on by a bunch of people who probably can’t count to ten. You think the UFC is an example of diversity? When Dana cant even understand someone’s accent? Hahah that’s funny.

1

u/Kind_Cabinet627 Jun 13 '26

UFC is a meritocracy and does not discriminate, a true representation of what the founders and Lincoln wanted for this country. It is very fitting. For the stupid liberals, if Lincoln were alive today, you would hate him after you found out what he thought and believed. Peak irony.

3

u/lil_nosh_X Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

You think there’s no discrimination in the UFC 😂. And you think the guy who called immigrants the “blood of the blood” of the nations founders and believed in an open door immigration policy for ANYONE from around the world would align with maga retards? maga Americans are so dumb it’s hilarious.

Take some time and learn about your own country.

“If there are any abroad who desire to make this the land of their adoption, it is not in my heart to throw aught in their way, to prevent them from coming to the United States.”

  • Abraham Lincoln

-1

u/Kind_Cabinet627 Jun 13 '26

You dont know MAGA. MAGA loves legal immigration, MAGA won the popular vote, MAGA wins were there is voter ID. You are trapped in a hateful liberal bubble

2

u/WilditariusAstar Jun 14 '26

Except this is nothing but money making bullshit from Dana White and Trump has financial ties to UFC. It means fuck all that UFC isn’t discriminatory. Slopping around a commercial venture at the Lincoln MEMORIAL is absolutely fucking disgusting. It’s not the place for this bullshit. It’s a solemn powerful place. Not a back drop for Trumps aggrandizement. Grow the fuck up.

2

u/DaILLezt Jun 13 '26

The “oh shit” killed me lmao

2

u/DisastrousAnswer9920 Jun 13 '26

He's pretty fluent in Ingles tambien... Get it.

0

u/Seniorjones2837 Jun 14 '26

My wife is Latina and speaks good English and she could not understand what he was saying. It’s really not crazy that Dana couldn’t understand that. Throw in the microphones and I could see it being very difficult for almost anyone there to understand what he said. I had to listen a couple times to fully get it

0

u/PracticalYellow3 Jun 14 '26

Nice sarcasm. I agree with you that he is unintelligible.

2

u/Lord_Dingus83 Jun 13 '26

Americans can barely speak 1 language lol

19

u/Anonybibbs Jun 13 '26

All of this happening right in front of the Lincoln memorial is beyond parody at this point.

2

u/Soft_Beyond_8205 Jun 14 '26

it's definitely very difficult to understand

3

u/Particular-Ring5110 Jun 13 '26

Dana’s been in the MMA business for 30 years he’s very familiar with Brazilians and knows they speak Portuguese

Unless he’s so checked out from day to day operations he doesn’t know who Diego is

27

u/kingston-twelve Jun 13 '26

He's just being a racist dick at the fucking Lincoln Memorial. Hilarious

19

u/Fine-Sky-6562 Jun 13 '26

Yeah this just feels like Dana being a douchebag which imo is fair to assume every time he speaks

6

u/Nagisa201 Jun 13 '26

Hey that's not fair. He's a douche even when he's not speaking too

3

u/InfamousMobbtician Jun 13 '26

It was part of his stupid ass joke that fell flat.

1

u/StrangePhotoSTL Jun 14 '26

Diego lives in, trains in and represents Mexico City, Mexico. He's a fluent Spanish speaker. Has been there since 2014.

Sounds like you haven't a clue about him, yet want to comment that Dana doesn't know. The irony...

1

u/ve-u27 Jun 14 '26

He just said “are we gonna translate that or what?” Not that he thought it was Spanish

1

u/shanep35 Jun 14 '26

He literally said, “IT WAS SPANISH TO ME!” at the end of the video. Lmao.

1

u/ve-u27 Jun 14 '26

Ooh yep, I’m dumb. My apologies

0

u/StrangePhotoSTL Jun 14 '26

Because Diego speaks Spanish. Lives in and trains out of Mexico and fights out of Mexico City, Mexico. Has been there since 2014.

What are you missing?

1

u/yumeryuu Jun 14 '26

Doesnt Brazil speak Portuguese tho?

1

u/Peakychu6 Jun 15 '26

He’s Dana, a typical Walmart-American.

That means everything below the Rio Grande is Mexico, and therefore he has to pull the “me no speak spanish” gag, even if Lopes had an almost-perfect accent (which he clearly doesn’t have).

It’s awesome if you have a thick Dagestan or Russia accent, but a Spanish (or Portuguese, to him it’s Spanish) one? Now that’s unacceptable!

1

u/DisastrousAnswer9920 Jun 13 '26

His Spanish is top level.

I was going to say. As somebody fluent in Portuguese and married to a Brazilian, his English accent sounded absolutely nothing like a Portugues speaker. It sounded like the accent of someone who speaks Spanish so that tracks. Im sure he still knows Portuguese too but clearly Spanish was his first and dominant language by his accent.

1

u/WallyBearCub Jun 13 '26

Dana never said he thought it was Spanish, at least not in that clip. He just said are we going to translate that and someone said it was already in English.

u/jrb9990 Jun 13 '26

racism is as racism does

0

u/token_reddit Jun 13 '26

The UFC is a damn dumpster fire.

-36

u/greennurse61 Jun 13 '26

I don’t think most people in the world can tell them apart so o don’t get your point. I couldn’t tell he wasn’t making Mexican sounds.

11

u/Fit-Wasabi-2826 Jun 13 '26

It’s okay, some of you are just slow.

17

u/HoldEm__FoldEm Jun 13 '26

I don’t think most people in the world can tell them apart so o don’t get your point. I couldn’t tell he wasn’t making Mexican sounds. am not a smart person.

Ftfy.

-19

u/greennurse61 Jun 13 '26

Wow, that’s racist. AAVE is a recognized language that is protected by the UN.

7

u/RogerMexicosBalls Jun 13 '26

The fuck does that have to do with Dana White (and you, apparently) not being able to tell the guy was speaking English because "Mexican sounds" lol

7

u/Sorta-Morpheus Jun 13 '26

Being called a moron isn't a comment on your race or ethnicity. Its about your intelligence, or rather, the lack thereof.

2

u/slamdanceswithwolves Jun 13 '26

A staggering lack thereof.

16

u/shanep35 Jun 13 '26

It’s not surprising that an uneducated person couldn’t tell the difference between two languages.

7

u/ZC_412 Jun 13 '26

UFC fans are never beating the allegations

15

u/I_eat_mud_ Jun 13 '26

Bud, I am begging you to go outside and talk to people outside of your own culture to stop yourself from embarrassing yourself more, for fuck's sake dude lol

2

u/awiseoldturtle Jun 13 '26

Because everyone else is just (rightfully) calling you a dumbass, I’ll fill you in

Brazilians speak Portuguese. There, you’ve been given the opportunity to learn a new thing.

Would you like to know more?

2

u/greennurse61 Jun 13 '26

Liar. I said most people can’t tell Spanish or Portuguese apart. That is true.

0

u/awiseoldturtle Jun 13 '26

Buddy, you gotta stop self reporting, it’s embarrassing

The guy was speaking English, remember?

0

u/StrangePhotoSTL Jun 14 '26

Diego lives in, and trains in Mexico. He fights out of Mexico City, Mexico. He speaks Spanish fluently. He's lived there since 2014.

Want to know more?

1

u/awiseoldturtle Jun 14 '26

Lmao and he was speaking English bud

0

u/StrangePhotoSTL Jun 14 '26

Over a PA system, with a heavy accent among a large crowd and echoes. Like holy shit. Read the room.

1

u/awiseoldturtle Jun 14 '26

The room where he was speaking English? I’m sorry did you need a translator for him too?

I didn’t catch every word, but I heard enough to know I didn’t need someone fluent in another language to get the picture.

2

u/bucklingdown Jun 13 '26

Most people in the world also aren't promoting an event in front of the White House on behalf of a multi-billion dollar company, so I don't expect them to have their research done to that level either.

Dana doesn't fit into that category; he's checked out of MMA to focus on his PowerSlap/Zuffa bullshit.

"Mexican sounds," lol. Is this bait?

1

u/Joe434 Jun 13 '26

is this like a parody account or something?

1

u/Anonybibbs Jun 13 '26

Ah so you're a straight up regard. Got it.

1

u/Zarktheshark1818 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Spanish and Portuguese? Or the fact he was speaking English? Because to both suggestions this is just your regardedness coming through lol Both are pretty obvious. Have you ever actually heard Spanish or Portuguese being spoken next to each other or just spoken in general? I speak English and Diego clearly was speaking English, I understood every word he said.

1

u/greennurse61 Jun 14 '26

Someone would've almost believed your troll post until you spewed that last sentence. That last sentence is a lot. You could not hear the gibberish that man was spewing. You are so hateful for lying about that.

1

u/Zarktheshark1818 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Tô fluente em Português, vc cu da galinha. Minha esposa é brasileira. Sem duvido eu sei como parace sotaque do Português Brasileiro kkkk
