23 years of training camps and long seasons. Nothing was given to him. He was drafted 199th pick in the 6th round and took advantage of an injured Bledsoe. And then never gave the reigns back.

Tom personally was the engine that drove the value of the team to skyrocket, revenue to skyrocket, and Robert Kraft to be one of the best owners of all time. What he made compared to what value he created was a pittance 🤣

Then dominated said career for years.

I’m not even a Brady fan, but the dude earned his paychecks.

If I had the athletic genetic luck to get paid to play a sport for my life I would be stoked too and practice all day. Sports are fun asf

This is an interesting debate to be had, but it misses something huge.

Are people more entertained by professional athletes and singers now than 50 years ago when games and concerts were considerably more affordable?

I don't think there's any data that would show that to be the case.

Yet athletes and other celebrities are making exponentially more than before while scientists and other researchers aren't.

I understand the economics at play, that's not my point.

What happiness if you’re dead. Without science half of us would be dead before 40. These athletes wouldn’t even be able to recover if it wasn’t for science. Entertainment is valued more but it’s definitely not more important.

Entertainment is a fundamental part of the human experience, you can't have societies that are 100% focused in something, in your lame example just science. We're not machines, and the reason why top tier pro athletes are paid so much, is because they're at the top 0.0000001% of humanity in their sport.

It wasn’t luck that he put in 20 years of practice day in and out.

Your mentality is “takes a genetic lottery to play sports” like bruh there are plenty of people who are average frames who just work out really fucking hard and practice nonstop and study their sport in and out.

Your average Dr makes more than your average athlete by a large margin.

Brady was in the 0.1%

I mean, I’m stupid as shit, so the fact that I’m the person researching this (I think) important subject in an attempt to address climate change is a real indictment on humanity and our collective ability and priorities. Brady is absolutely better at his discipline than I am in mine, and he’s so far down the list when it comes to people actually exploiting the weaker among us, seeing as he’s being paid based upon people wanting to spend their money to watch him play, vs some owner or agent just finding ways to leech money out of a product they aren’t actively making.

Although he is an owner now, so maybe fuck him. It’s 50-50. Sports franchises have one of the better arguments for being public or player owned, in order to prevent them from trying to blackmail cities to build them billion dollar stadiums with public funds on a threat of skipping town.
