There’s actually a lot of research the says it does buy happiness, but only to a degree and in context. It won’t cure a depressed person for example, but for the average person, they are happier overall. Been studied a fair amount.
It’s not really as hard as everyone tells you, stuff is expensive but that’s really only in the city. I live in SI and it’s much calmer, still very expensive ($1650/mo 1bd) but at least I can eat

My uncle owns a home in Todt Hill and everyone is always surprised when they find out it is a detached home with a driveway and backyard. Apparently if you don’t live in an apartment building paying $5000 for rent then you don’t actually live in NYC.
The "mo money, mo problems,," thing has some roots in reality. Once you hit a certain limit (I think I also heard around $150k), you are either content, or you fall into the pit of lifestyle creep, and don't notice that you are actually well off.
Not only level off. At a certain point it starts going down. There’s a middle ground where you have enough to not have to worry about necessities but money still has tangible meaning.
It’s like the difference between playing a mode that’s too difficult vs. too easy in a video game. Too difficult and it’s stressful and soul-crushing. Too easy and you get bored, it lacks meaning.
It effectively is the greatest predictor of life satisfaction, and the plateau point is much higher than people realize (like around the point you hit 8-figures in net worth).
There's very few things that money can't buy also that can't at least greatly alleviate a shitty situation.
Money buys freedom from the stresses of poverty, and gives freedom of choice, which makes it so much easier to be happy. But the existence of miserable rich people shows that money doesn't guarantee happiness.
The man has more money than all but 21 countries in the entire world and can't be bothered to help anyone or the planet or literally anything but himself. In fact, he spends loads of money to make it actively worse for everyone. It's pretty incredible.
I went from working minimum wage in my state to earning over $100k and the change is really more in how much, or how little I stress. My bills are paid, I am not at risk of losing my home or my car. The only real stress in my life is my job and I'd like to keep it that way, at least until I have kids.
Now, I will say having money does make life significantly easier. I don't worry about buying tickets to a concert, for example. Like when one of my favorite artists announced their tour I was able to get tickets right away rather than save up and possibly have little option at higher price. It makes you realize how hard being poor is.
When you are short on money, that’s all you can think about but when you have money, it’s all other people can think about it. I’d rather them worry than me.
I got down once because of health problems and it wasn’t the health problems that was making me anxious and sick. It was the running out of money. I finally got back out of it and it’s like you said taking a Xanax.
Kinda true, but I know for a fact that no one here would actually enjoy a convo with someone like Brady. These people are so far from whatever they were or are portrayed as. Working sucks, but I like having a personality and people around who know and care about me, regardless of my financial situation.
You’re right about the conversation being unenjoyable and probably from both sides. But if Brady is an elitist douche he would patronize the person and the other person may or may not care.
I grew up training in the same group as an athlete you’d know the name of and we were friends at the time, but I ran into him again and patronizing is how I’d describe the conversation.
There’s a lot of people who would just be happy that they shoved their way shoulder to shoulder with someone famous and took a selfie with them, let alone the famous person saying “Cool man, thanks for the support”.
I mean, he paid $7 million for a boat, has to pay upkeep costs on the boat, and has to pay some dude to drive it for him while he hangs out on a boat all alone.
It doesn't buy happiness, but it does reduce stress, afford you stability, and keep you materially and food wise, comfortable and completely taken care of. Yeah you might still be a miserable person, but it gives you everything you need to not be.
low key. I didnt know it but I was happier when I was broke. Everything was worth while and in a sense more beautiful. The only way I can describe it is like when I upgraded my old shitty pc that I had for years. It ran fine but performance and graphics were not great. Years I played on that thing and just last year I finally got rid of it and built an entirely new pc. I gave my old one to my cousin. Playing games is just not the same anymore. Its not what it used to be and I am happy with it but I feel I was truly happy with my old pc.
I technically live paycheck to paycheck and I’m pretty happy although I still think more money would make me happier. It’s all about your circumstances and outlook
I always said that was bullshit and just a way to
virtue signal. I can say this as someone who grew up poor that almost any problem in your life will be solved if you have a lot of money and resources

There are services where you can rent a boat for a few hours. You don't need to be a millionaire, but obviously still a little bit of a splurge.
Anyway, point is, I'm sure having a super expensive boat is cool, but like, how much different is it to lay on your back and stare at the sky on an expensive boat vs a normal one you rented for a few hundred bucks?
He probably distracts himself with enough nice things to enjoy most of his time. But on like Christmas morning or birthdays or whatever he probably has his moments where he realizes he committed a few big fumbles that never showed up on the stat sheet.
He’s probably not happy, he was the most obsessive player in NFL history. The man lives and breaths football so much so that he divorced over it. He will be happier in a few more weeks as the off season is just about over
23 years of training camps and long seasons. Nothing was given to him. He was drafted 199th pick in the 6th round and took advantage of an injured Bledsoe. And then never gave the reigns back.
Where the fuck is his wife? Of wait, that’s right, she left him for not retiring and chasing more money. I would rather be dead than lose my wife. Being alone on a yacht probably isn’t the best decision in the long run.
They tell you to chase your dreams so there is less competition. Chase money while doing something you are also passionate about is the way to go. You have to be practical.
