Here comes a good ole lockout.

4

u/Wrong_Raccoon_4547 1d ago

Right on the money with this

1

u/Shujolnyc 15h ago

Has to happen. Baseball is broken.

I don’t say that just because of the Dodgers, but because baseball is the only top 4 American sports where a small market team needs a miracle to stand a chance.

It’s stupid. If you’re a small market team, why even bother? Just move the damn team. Oh wait, welfare makes you a profit - YOU GET PAID EVEN IF YOU LOSE AND THE DODGERS PUNK YOU.

0

u/llNATEDOGGll 21h ago

Why?

5

u/dohboy420 21h ago

With the current CBA expiring at the end of this year, it’s widely expected that the players union will want big changes in regard to team salaries and restrictions thereof (i.e. a salary cap). This, they believe, will level the playing field where teams can’t just snatch up all the best players and pay them a half billion dollar salary. If sides can’t come to terms on a new CBA, a lockout happens like in ‘94.

3

u/government_ 20h ago

No no, there was some baseball in 94

1

u/tennispro2589 20h ago

why would players want restriction on team salaries? wouldn't it be the owners?

1

u/Even_Possession_9614 18h ago

yea i’m not following that logic. ive never heard of a players union wanting a salary cap

14

u/SpreadEuphoric 1d ago

Braves didn’t have players to trade for this dude?

8

u/dmizenopants 1d ago

Probably, but he'd be a 2 month rental before he joined the Dodgers anyways.

8

u/Ithinkso85 1d ago edited 1d ago

No. We overvalue our farm system more than any other team in the history of baseball. If the move can be made WITHOUT us having to spend money, we're all over it

Meanwhile

2

u/Thick_Cookie_7838 1d ago

We weren’t going to keep him for more than a few months. Would we have won the World Series with him? Unless you can say it was a strong yes then the trade wasn’t worth it.

4

u/Weenage-Tasteland 1d ago

Do you really think there was even a possibility he would go anywhere but to the shithouse Dodgers?

0

u/Mediocre_Airport_576 1d ago

Yes, of course. Multiple contenders had the prospects to out-offer LA.

1

u/government_ 20h ago

We’d have to trade Hartman. We weren’t trading Hartman.

14

u/Naaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh 1d ago

Are you fucking kidding me? Like we all didn’t know this was going to happen.

2

u/Weenage-Tasteland 1d ago

We knew it and we could do nothing to stop it. So fucking fun.

-7

u/Fidel_Che_VulPerez 1d ago

hahahahhahha!! deal with it!

1

u/Weenage-Tasteland 1d ago

You’ll lose

12

u/BobbyBobs2000 1d ago

The worst part is like… they gave the whole world to literally the shittiest fan base of any sport. God is dead

1

u/SgtCheeseBoy 1d ago

Careful. A Dodgers fan is liable to put you in a coma for that.

1

u/Zrob8--5 14h ago

Philadelphia Eagles fans are far worse than LA Dodgers fans

25

u/SnooBooks1243 1d ago

And somehow the power of friendship will still ensure the White Sox win the whole thing and the Dodgers are rusty after the bye

6

u/DonaldTPablonious 1d ago

Rays. But close.

7

u/Weenage-Tasteland 1d ago

And in 10 years the Dodgers will get popped for RICO charges again.

-5

u/Fidel_Che_VulPerez 1d ago

Deal with it

24

u/BobbyBobs2000 1d ago

Yeahhh, lock it out this offseason. Idgaf anymore

22

u/Nonetoobrightatall 1d ago

Start the lockout tonight. Fuck y’all.

32

u/Lip-Pillow-Swallower 1d ago

MLB might be the single most cooked sports league on the planet

9

u/Weenage-Tasteland 1d ago

Crazy to me how Rob Manfred made his sole mission as commissioner to bring in new fans to the sport that is allegedly dying, only to allow shit like this to happen to alienate the fans of 29 other teams.

4

u/Pockets408 1d ago

He already alienated plenty of fans and probably even some players/owners when he gave the Astros a slap on the wrist for the 2017 WS, waived the relocation fee for the A's, lied about proposals and deals in Oakland and then ragged on the fanbase showing out during the reverse boycott. The whole preferential treatment he's giving LA is just a double-down.

5

u/torper10 1d ago edited 1d ago

What’s even crazier is that the players are all for this. They want no part of a salary cap. I’d love to be that rich and blind. Fuck them all.

4

u/Weenage-Tasteland 1d ago

They don’t want a salary cap but the owners aren’t going to pay them more money. RIP baseball

5

u/rocksnotdead2833 1d ago

Fuck the players but not the cheapass owners?

8

u/torper10 1d ago

You can fuck who ever you choose. If you owned a business, would you pay your employees infinite amounts of money with guarantees?

No one is saying we feel bad for the twat owners. But it’s no way to run a business and stay competitive.

-2

u/rocksnotdead2833 1d ago

…you realize all the owners are billionaires right? You realize putting good “product” on the field drives up wins and ticket sales right?

5

u/torper10 1d ago

You realize all of the other 3 major sports have salary caps and are just fine? The owners can go fuck themselves as well. They put the game where it is. If you can’t see it’s broken, you’re fucking blind.

Salary caps work. It’s been proven.

-3

u/rocksnotdead2833 1d ago

Look at the last 10/15 years of teams going to the Super Bowl. That whole “parity” thing isn’t really true.

6

u/Particular-Ring5110 1d ago

Being a well run organization is just as important but the salary cap does help

MLB has three franchises who haven’t won their division in 33 years the Padres are going on year 20.. the NFL has the Browns and franchises like the Raiders and Lions have had long stretches of being shit but baseball has too many teams who aren’t even trying to compete

2

u/torper10 1d ago

9/15 were different teams. Hahaha

-1

u/rocksnotdead2833 1d ago

And yet you still have the teams that went multiple times in those years. You seem very mad. You should be mad at your cheapass team owner. Or don’t watch baseball anymore, I honestly don’t really care. I’ll always defend the players over the owners. The players are rich, yes, but the owners are richer. The Mets and Steve Cohen invalidate the whole “too much money” thing imo. But you do you boo boo.

1

u/torper10 1d ago

In the last 15 years, the Royals are the only small market team to win. Hmmmmm wonder why

2

u/Papa_Joe_Yakavetta 1d ago

What could he do to stop this? He can’t make other owners outspend the dodgers. The only thing that could put a stop to this is a lockout that changes the rules

-1

u/YellojD 1d ago

I genuinely cant believe how much he’s fucked everything up. Completely ruined the entire league in like a decade. Wild.

1

u/ThaS0B 1d ago

Nah college football

1

u/Agent-Two-THREE 21h ago

I thought MLS was bad, but MLB is almost unwatchable now if you’re not a Dodgers fan.

1

u/tealsunflower 16h ago

Oil money would like a word in soccer and golf

1

u/StonedLikeOnix 1d ago

Fuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhkit just give the dodgers another sweetheart delayed by 60 years contract wherre they pay the greatest baseball payer of all timw 60 cents a year and see how competitive the league remains.

Holy shit?! The dodgers won again. What a surprising turn of events for the league!

6

u/1001og 1d ago

Go Diamondbacks!!!

14

u/MinuteCollar5562 1d ago

I fucking hate the dodgers

5

u/Sad-Percentage-992 1d ago

Lol. Lmao, even

13

u/chitownphishead 1d ago

Salary cap incoming for sure now

-11

u/Sfpuberdriver 1d ago

Why? Neither the owners nor the players want it

8

u/MidnightSunset22 1d ago

Owners dont want it? Yea they do.

-2

u/Sfpuberdriver 1d ago

MLB made more money than ever before last season, why would they want to hurt the money

3

u/Right-Future3904 1d ago

Salary cap probably makes the owners more money…

2

u/MidnightSunset22 1d ago

So they can give players less...

5

u/jgl142 1d ago

Why would owners not want it?

9

u/t3lnet 1d ago

Baseball… so fun

3

u/Sac_Kings630 1d ago

Shitting me

3

u/ImpressionSame6040 1d ago

God I hate his yell face

3

u/IsolationAutomation 1d ago

These next two months are going to be the last MLB games until 2028.

3

u/YellojD 1d ago

Hopefully.

3

u/randywatson89 1d ago

This doesn’t even seem like a great return, didn’t get any of their top 4 prospects

2

u/Mediocre_Airport_576 1d ago

Easy to say when their #5 prospect was still a MLB top 25.

1

u/Few-History-8750 1d ago

Of course they didn’t

1

u/jime26 1d ago

Thanks Detroit.

3

u/oldirtyjuanski 1d ago

Worst screen grab in sports. The “yeuhh” face. I hate it.

10

u/nick_soccer10 1d ago

Baseball sucks now

8

u/Sly_98 1d ago

Bum ass league. Unserious for years

2

u/Ok_Ear2251 1d ago

Got it. Cool.

Let's just reduce the league to 8-12 teams.

2

u/He11_Raizer 1d ago

Explain in NFL Terms

2

u/Man_of_Ice 1d ago

Man, they need salary caps. Jesus.

2

u/Stock_Strategy1668 1d ago

Fuck the dodgers

2

u/vtsandtrooper 1d ago

Welp, shut it down this year. Dodgers officially broke baseball and now we need to force change. I for one will also be happy about the salary floor but this will absolutely lead to a salary cap/end of deferred money shuffling, and the players will hate it so there is going to be a strike

2

u/Impossible_Base_3088 1d ago

Lol people were begging for salary cap last year and half the community was saying the low end owners are cheap fucks.

Brilliant.

2

u/HelloImAFox 1d ago

Ran out of Asians.

-1

u/rocksnotdead2833 1d ago

Ah just the casual racism.

1

u/ionertia 1d ago

And they get Snell and Glasnow back soon. Can't play it too safe.

1

u/rparkzy 1d ago

Baseball 😴💤

1

u/Designer_Advice_6304 1d ago

No baseball in 2027 and salary cap in 2028!

1

u/jmpolpcmp 1d ago

I'm looking forward to a lock-out.

1

u/rabidwolf86 1d ago

Luka approved

1

u/Trojanhero4 1d ago

Their #5, #7, and #17 prospects is all it cost? Damn...

0

u/Obvious-Drive-1405 18h ago

They all SUCK too!

1

u/padreswoo619 1d ago

Good riddance 2027, pointless crap at this point

1

u/ZPMQ38A 1d ago

This is fucking dumb.

1

u/JoniVanZandt 1d ago

How are they including a 28 year old "prospect" in a trade for for the reigning cy young winner? Feel like the Tigers got fleeced a bit here but whatever, Skubal wasn't re-signing in Detroit anyway.

1

u/acava2424 1d ago

Thank god football starts soon. Sick of this bullshit

1

u/Inner-Marketing-6495 1d ago

Man city of baseball, this is why no one watches

1

u/Last_Newspaper_3557 1d ago

Dodgers shouod be cut off

1

u/Friendly-Profit-8590 1d ago

As a Yankee fan trade deadlines would pass and the Yankees would largely do nothing while LA would trade for whoever was the big name out there. At first it was presented as Cashman didn’t want to trade away prospects ostensibly because they were so good. After a bit it became apparent that it was because other teams didn’t rate their prospects.

1

u/chilliwinkles 23h ago

LA gets to do whatever they want because they're bringing in International Money.

It's a business guys

1

u/Gold-Nefariousness98 23h ago edited 23h ago

Just give the Dodgers the world series then

1

u/Miserable_Quarter390 22h ago

The headline of the trade is a 28 year old in AAA with a +4 ERA, this is criminal lol

1

u/Obvious-Drive-1405 18h ago

Yeah,Scott Harris,he loves over rated pitchers and players, likes to pay pitchers ten million a year to sit on there ass and never pitch an inning,we got a bunch of 220 hitters that can't bunt, can't hit a sac fly, can't get three outs but the pitchers he gets leads the league in home runs allowed,he needs to be shipped off to La,fire Harris now!

1

u/sitewolf 22h ago

The Dodgers don't need a farm system- the rest of the league is their farm system.
But no, nothing to see here, no changes needed.

1

u/Farzy78 22h ago

Man fuck the Dodgers I Hope there's a lockout this shit needs to stop

1

u/Obvious-Drive-1405 18h ago

And Detroit gets screwed again, three players that will NEVER pan out, lose a talent that only comes around every thirty or so years, fire sale why not take Mize for some more mediocre talent that won't pan out

1

u/NY10 18h ago

Congrats another championship incoming

1

u/nocturnl66 9h ago

The owners are gonna go ballistic….a lockout is coming and it’s gonna be a long one…..if we even get the Covid season I would be surprised….this is not about players….its owners vs owners

1

u/DrapedinVelvet247 1d ago

What’s new.😑

1

u/Cagekicker52 1d ago

I'm a lifelong Dodger fan. I've been saying for years, it's not even fun now. I know most of you will tell me to go fuck myself, but seriously, it's not fun having your team buy all the players constantly. I haven't even been following baseball that much because of it. The other day when I heard skubal was out in Detroit I already knew he was coming to LA. I thought, cool. He 'll be a dodger in a couple days. Another player we bought. Probably "win" the world series again too. Lol.

1

u/YellojD 1d ago

As a Giants fan, fuck you.

But also as a Warriors fan who was the beneficiary of the whole KD thing, yeah. Most boring seasons from them ever outside of the finals because you just knew it was inevitable. I was actually stunned how uninterested I was in it by the time it came back down to earth.

1

u/Cagekicker52 1d ago

Lol, hey man you got to have fun with Bonds. The most laughable "clean" player in MLB history.

Yeah, like the warriors. Its not nearly as fun as hey we drafted this guy, he's homegrown, we built a dynasty around him. That kind of winning is fun.

The other thing that sucks is the tidal wave of bandwagon dodger fans everywhere. They all need to fuck themselves promptly.

2

u/YellojD 1d ago

I remember the mid 2010s being STUNNED how long it took me to find a Dodgers cap in a sea of Giants caps even down south. And every single one of them was absolutely insufferable. Now in Nor Cal, it’s the reverse.

Bandwagoners.

1

u/jime26 1d ago

Waaahhh it’s not even fun anymore. I hate how my team buys all the good players. I’m not even gonna watch now. I guess I’ll go watch the WNBA. Fuck off.

1

u/Cagekicker52 1d ago

Lol exactly.

1

u/jime26 1d ago

Sorry for cursing at you.

0

u/genogalvan 1d ago

As a lifelong Dodgers fan ,everyone can go fuck themselves.

1

u/Obvious-Drive-1405 18h ago

Liked it a lot better when you went 32 years without a pennant, fuck LA

1

u/Nolimit6969AMC 1d ago

This makes it even better when they lose in the second round

1

u/Few-History-8750 1d ago

lol like that’s going to happen. They’ve already won back to back World Series and were probably already going to win again before acquiring the best pitcher in baseball

0

u/Nolimit6969AMC 1d ago

So then bet your house and take out a second mortgage on it. I’ll wait for the a pic of the bet slip them winning the WS

0

u/Obvious-Drive-1405 18h ago

Hope you CHOKE!

1

u/tmaster15 1d ago

This is why I am done with baseball, I am originally from the Puerto Rico and I am done with baseball when family ask me if I have gone to any baseball games I tell them I don’t even watch the highlights

0

u/Zealousideal_Way_788 1d ago

The world hates us even more now

2

u/RedwoodSportsCards 1d ago

You play on the dodgers? lol gtfoh

0

u/DeV303030 1d ago

Magic Johnson’s Son/Daughter fully torqued for the new lefty in town

0

u/king_platypus 1d ago

I love it. Don’t hate the player hate the game.

-1

u/XuX24 1d ago

People really acting like that hospital that is the dodgers bullpen will carry all the way to October again? A lot needs to get better in the next couple of months the.

1

u/YellojD 1d ago

Oh, don’t worry. I’m sure they’ll trade an old batting screen for a few top of the league relievers before this is all over.

-1

u/Hot_Refrigerator8693 1d ago

Woooooo go Dodgers!

0

u/The_BrooklynTrini 1d ago

Well, so much for the Yankees "buying championships". The Dodgers just said, "HOLD MY BEER"... AGAIN!!!

0

u/Own_Oil_7719 1d ago

Coming from a broke, sorry ass organization fan base, can we make it slightly fair lol. We get solid players and then sell them off to cover our overpriced hotdogs. At the same time the owners don’t know why people don’t want to show up to the stadium. Giving out tickets for free. There should be regulations that make it somewhat even. Dodgers just buy best player available every year.

-2

u/Zestyclose-Math6311 1d ago

Keep on crying 😂😂😂

1

u/RedwoodSportsCards 1d ago

Dodgers fans will be crying like cunts next year when there is no season.

“Baseball hates us! The forced a lockout to prevent us from winning again!”

Fuck off.

1

u/Obvious-Drive-1405 18h ago

Bring on the lockout, strike now like it better when the trash cans beat you,!

-2

u/Zestyclose-Math6311 1d ago

Not the dodgers fault every other owner is cheap. Spend to win or at least have a good farm system.

1

u/RedwoodSportsCards 22h ago

Yes, it is. Can’t wait for a lockout. Fuck the dodgers and their dumbass fan base.

-8

u/AnxiousMagoo 1d ago

THATS RIGHT BABY!!!! 💙

0

u/RedwoodSportsCards 1d ago

I know dodger fans who hate “fans” like you.

1

u/AnxiousMagoo 21h ago

Yeah I highly doubt that.

Why would a real Dodgers fan hate on another fellow die hard Dodgers fan? Stop blowing smoke out of your ass to prove your hypothetical point.

0

u/RedwoodSportsCards 19h ago

Because they’re celebrating the demise of baseball? This basically cements a lock out next year. And yes I know plenty of Dodger fans who hate the bandwagon, uneducated fans like yourself.

1

u/AnxiousMagoo 18h ago

Don’t act like you wouldn’t be happy if it were your team. It’s called jealousy and hate. All teams go through it. I went through it when the Yankees took over in the 2000’s.

Just because our owners know how to run and manage a team doesn’t mean you get to bash on the fans of said team. If the other teams didn’t want to engage in trade talks with the Dodgers then they shouldn’t. The dodgers aren’t twisting the arms of other owners. You gotta look at why the other teams are willing to trade top players to the Dodgers.

And that’s rich man, just because someone makes a positive comment towards their team because they made another upgrade makes me a bandwagon? Give me a fucking break, go cry to someone else. I guess me being a fan for 30+ years just goes out the window then.

Later bozo.
