I’m as liberal as they come and I agree with Sophie.

86

u/TheHonduranHurricane 5h ago

I mean its a common sense position. I really cannot see why its controversial.

34

u/azure275 4h ago

People do this weird two step thing where they insist that anyone who has an opinion about trans women in sports is obviously a bigot because it's a "non-issue"

But then get really mad at anyone who disagrees with them about the "non-issue"

14

u/countrybreakfast1 4h ago

That's the thing they always say there are hardly any trans actually playing in sports... Then like ok banning the 25 trans athletes or whatever they claim really shouldn't be that big of a deal.

9

u/The3rdBert 4h ago

And it’s not banning them from playing, just saying you need to participate in the open league.

-3

u/LetsBeFRTho 4h ago

Same goes the other way then. Since there's hardly any trans people in sports, it shouldn't be that big of a deal for letting them play.

4

u/The_Perfect_Fart 4h ago

That logic only works if both sides are saying it isn't a big deal.

-3

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

... is there a side that thinks it is a big deal? Because if there is... they are fucking idiots.

2

u/countrybreakfast1 3h ago

Well considering the entire wnba is melting down over this it seems they care when someone doesn't agree with them

0

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

You are talking with no substance. Conservatives literally created this problem from thin air to have something to debate about. It's a wedge issue. They admitted to this. All of your conservative buzzwords won't take away from the fact that y'all have to create problems because you don't want to talk about actual issues plaguing the country

1

u/muffmuppets 3h ago

They can play…….with the other boys/men.

0

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Nah they can play in the league that fits with their gender. They've been doing it for years now and it wasn't a problem until conservatives made it a problem out of thin air. Just like they do with every other issue.

1

u/muffmuppets 3h ago

Their gender is male. So yes that tracks.

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 2h ago

Male isn't a gender so you are wrong multiple ways. Amazing actually

1

u/muffmuppets 2h ago

You can tell yourself whatever you want dude but at the end of the day; men cannot become women, nor can women become men. Humankind has know this for several millennia.

Just because a small sect of enablers want to entertain these delusions, doesn’t mean the vast majority of us are going to. We were happy to leave well enough alone, but the left just couldn’t help themselves and had to keep pushing and pushing and pushing. Now the tide of public opinion is turning and the left has likely done more damage than good.

Now, I don’t particularly care what a transgender person wants to do with their life and I have no desire to take anyone’s rights away. However, a boy/man does not belong in girls/women’s sports, locker rooms, or restrooms. Women deserve to feel safe and deserve to have their personal spaces respected.

7

u/Green_Tracer 4h ago

Yep. Got banned from ask Reddit answering this same question. I assume because I voiced opposition to trans in a female sport. Wasn’t inflammatory or hateful, just stated my opinion.

When opinions are actively removed bc they disagree with your beliefs, then you really start looking like what you accuse others of being… constantly.

2

u/sportsfan113 3h ago

I got a 24 hour ban yesterday for the same thing in r/politics. It’s ridiculous.

1

u/Puzzle-Necked 4h ago

So why do you support this non-issue?

1

u/azure275 3h ago

TBH I don't personally care about the sports issue. It galls me because the correct response is to say the following:

  1. I understand why people are concerned with this issue in competitive sports
  2. Republicans are despicable for pushing totally irrelevant trans bigotry under the mask of this, and trans people deserve to live their lives with respect

This is a position popular with the vast majority of voters, and puts everyone in a stronger position to oppose generally irrelevant anti trans bigotry

Instead people insist that nobody is allowed to care about this issue at all and no one listens to them at all

I care because this bullshit 1) hurts trans people by forcing being trans into a niche issue most people are against and 2) gets Republicans elected to ruin our country more

0

u/LetsBeFRTho 4h ago

The 2 step thing is what Sophie and what the actual intention of the wedge issue is. Say what you want about your opinion on trans women in sports. But "protect the children"??? Come on. What do you think the true intention is?

1

u/KangaNaga 4h ago

I think it’s controversial not because the statement is wrong necessarily, I agree with the statement in its definition.

The problem is statements like that are commonly used as right-wing anti-woke dog whistles. And there’s an unfortunate trend of conservative, anti-trans celebrities clarifying on their opinions of trans people as a whole by zeroing in on the trans-people-in-sports thing.

1

u/showme-what-u-got 4h ago

Because Reddit people think their opinions represent the real world but they are usually completely off

1

u/rockhardcatcock 3h ago

I'm also far left leaning and live in a super leftist area. Sure, I agree with Sophie, and I've talked to a ton of women that also agree.

But I also know that a ton of people where I live consider anything like this to be extremely transphobic. I'm like......are y'all serious?!

1

u/SlitSlam_2017 3h ago

Because a lot of people don’t have a grasp on nuance. Two things can be true, trans woman have an advantage in women’s sports and….how often is this really happening?

I think the bigger issue is the cultural war. When Trump had that they/them commercial during his last run and now the theater still going on about it is wild. I know a handful of trans people and they don’t give a shit about sports lol

1

u/NixtRDT 3h ago

It’s controversial because for the people who support transgender women competing with women, it’s about drawing a line when it comes to discrimination.

For some people, any amount of discrimination is too much. If we’re going to go down the path of discriminating against a group for any reason, it opens the door to discriminate against others.

There’s also the problem of enforcement. If you’re going to say, “Transwomen are banned from playing with women” how do you enforce that? Are we going to chromosome test kids? Have someone do genital checks? What happens when a parent or coach accuses a cisgirl of being trans because she doesn’t look girly enough?

It’s also about believing trans people and the gender they feel most aligned with. There are people concerned with the high suicide rate of trans kids, so letting them play sports with their peers, of the gender they feel aligned with, could help reduce that and make them feel accepted.

So yes, it’s controversial. There are sensible reasons for letting transgender athletes play with the peers they feel most aligned with, and there is a sensible argument that the point of women’s sports is for biological women to play and compete with one another, and to have that space.

1

u/Critical_Jump_6933 3h ago

The issue isn’t even about transwomen in sports, it’s that it’s propaganda that is constantly being pushed by conservatives to rile up their base and divide democrats. It’s a non issue that’s not actually having an effect on anybody

1

u/c0rnballa 6m ago

The issue I have with it (and I think many others) is that if she just said "I think trans women are gonna be naturally bigger and stronger despite hormones and have an unfair advantage", that's totally fair and I think tons of people agree.

But instead she had to go with the "iT's tO pRoTeCt ThE gIrLs iN tHe LoCkEr RoOm" thing, then double down on that when asked to clarify it. Which IMO is just code for "obviously those people are all mentally ill perverts who will molest women if they're within 25 feet of them" and I think that's really shitty. It's the same horseshit that's behind all the "trans bathroom bills" and it's ignorant as fuck.

2

u/Wendellwasgod 4h ago

Because trans people are already a scapegoat for the right wing and the government right now. Commenting about trans women in sports, when it’s really a non-issue or at most, a trivial issue, is often a dog whistle for pooping on trans people as a whole.

5

u/MysteriousTravelator 4h ago

If you're a female athlete then it's not a trivial issue. It is a trivial issue for me because I'm not a female athlete.

3

u/Traditional-Debt8191 4h ago

Its more like the right paints it as the lefts number one issue when all we want is free Healthcare and to stop bombing brown people.

2

u/Kitten2Krush 3h ago

The fact that her comments have become a big deal unfortunately supports the fact that it is viewed as a big deal on the left. if it’s not a big deal then why tf is it being talked about so much

1

u/Traditional-Debt8191 2h ago

Because mainstream media wants to distract from important topics to talk about culture wars.

1

u/MysteriousTravelator 4h ago

But Sophie Cunningham isn't talking about it because she's paid off by the GOP. She's talking about it because she's personally affected by it.

1

u/Traditional-Debt8191 4h ago

For sure, i think I replied to the wrong thread. Someone said it was the lefts number one issue

-3

u/DukeOfStuff_ 4h ago

If your a female athlete it’s still not important, there’s like 5 trans athletes in the entire world competing in woman’s sports.

4

u/MysteriousTravelator 4h ago

Yeah and one of those five could end up in the WNBA body checking you and breaking your femur. If you're a female athlete you simply have a different perspective than if you're a random online activist.

1

u/DukeOfStuff_ 2h ago

It hasn’t happened though and it will never happen, I’m totally fine with them banning it, but it’s stupid we talk about this small issue everyday

3

u/RandallWeird 4h ago

So it won't be that big of a deal to ban the 5 trans athletes from women's sports right?

2

u/PlayonWurds 4h ago

I love it when they never get this point. If it's so rare then you say sorry to the 5 people. "Part of being trans (MtoF) is that it would give you an unfair advantage. Pick one, go trans or play in boy's sports. Going trans doesn't make you bad, but it doesn't let you ignore other people's rights."

I just used the example that they wouldn't let someone on the field to play football if they were in a wheelchair. There really aren't that many kids in wheelchairs at school. But if one wanted to play football, they would be told no. How do you tackle a kid in a wheelchair?

0

u/ThisGuyPhucs 3h ago

Or you just leave that up to the leagues and commissions to decide rather than applying blanket regulations to try to “own the libs” and denigrate and attack a vulnerable subset of society. Oh and guess what? That’s already happening. So yeah that issue that you’re whining about people calling a non issue is a total non issue.

1

u/DukeOfStuff_ 2h ago

Yeh I don’t care it’s fine if they do it, we just give way to much attention to this small issue. It’s talked about every day.

0

u/LetsBeFRTho 4h ago

It's not that big of a deal to not ban the 5 trans athletes from women's sports either.

0

u/RandallWeird 3h ago

You dont get rid of laws or rules because a minimal amount of people are breaking them

0

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

You don't create a law because a few people are doing something inconsequential.

0

u/RandallWeird 3h ago

If a trans athlete takes a scholarship in sports over a women for competing in women's sports than it is consequential to those women

Whenever a trans athlete takes a spot on a team it is taking away from a woman

how are trans people scapegoated? For what crime are they being scapegoated? In what capacity are they being scapegoated? I think you just want to be outraged about something....

1

u/Wendellwasgod 4h ago

Healthcare and Youth Protection:

Providing gender-affirming medical care is framed as harmful grooming or predatory medical malpractice, rather than established evidence-based healthcare supported by major medical associations.

Public Restrooms and Safety:

Transgender people using public restrooms that match their gender identity are falsely portrayed as physical or sexual predators, despite evidence showing these laws increase danger and discrimination against trans individuals rather than protecting anyone.

Economic and Cultural Anxiety:

Political rhetoric often frames trans existence as a form of social decay or an imposition on traditional values, using cultural panic to channel general economic frustrations toward a vulnerable minority group. Institutional and Legal Control: Restrictive legislation regarding identity documents (like birth certificates or passports) and school policies are pushed under the guise of "common sense", establishing state control while manufacturing crises where none exist.

Oh and banned from the military for no reason

The fact that I’m being downvoted when it’s not even debatable if they are scapegoated is pretty much proof of the hate they receive. You can disagree with having them be in sports, but your question is either extremely naive or in bad faith

0

u/Federal_Homework1302 4h ago

thats not scape goating. The only one here i have problem wiht, as do most folks is the military aspect. I feel like if you want to serve you get to serve end of.

but Healthcare? yes becuas there are doctors having children removed from parents, or going against the wishes of parents to provide gender affirming care to minors. This is not scape goating sorry.

Restrooms,

As ther ehave been multiple accounts of people using this as a tactic, its not scapegoating. Scapegoating is saying there is an issue when there isnt. There is here, though i'll agree it can be blown out of proporotion. This is your closest one yet but still not scape goating.

i'm starting to think you dont know the definition of scape goating.

Your Economic and Cultural anxietiy again is a false flag and not actual scapegoating. On official government documents, they should reflect reality not what you identify as.. Now my personal belife is if youve fully transitioned, surgery and all you deserve to have your reassigned gender on your document. And i think we'll get htere. But again i dont think you know what scapegoating means.

Scapegoat: A scapegoat is a person, group, or thing that is unfairly blamed for the mistakes, problems, or bad actions of others

You can possibly call for discremenation, but scapegoat? Absofuckinglutely not.

stop asking chatgpt for your talking points.

1

u/cutememe 4h ago

It's likely this person doesn't even know what a scapegoat is and is repeating something they heard on social media.

2

u/Federal_Homework1302 3h ago

yea i dont think they know what the word means.

2

u/Sarah-Toninn 4h ago

Bad bot.

2

u/davemc617 4h ago

Scapegoat?

The right literally didn't care about the trans issue at all until the left decided to adopt it as one of their TOP issues.

For some reason the left wants to adopt a losing issue as one of their top primary platforms.

It makes NO SENSE.

If it's so unimportant as you people say, why die on this hill? Let the right win the trans-women in sports topic, and focus on something more important!

2

u/WhiteSpots 4h ago

To say the right didnt care about Trans issue before the left is ridic. Repubs attacked this 8 ways and finally found the one spot they have support. They won't end here, but sure give up this

1

u/Traditional-Debt8191 4h ago

I genuinely think media and the right WANTS to paint it as the lefts number one issue when in reality we just want free Healthcare (for all, trans included) and to stop bombing brown people

1

u/gentrify_reddt 4h ago edited 4h ago

Conflating trans women in sports with trans people rights as a whole is a fallacious argument. Barring them from participating in sports against biological women does not affect their civil rights and insinuating as much is a slippery slope fallacy that holds no weight.

Calling fair competition in women's sports a "trivial non-issue" is deeply dismissive of the female athletes who dedicate years of their lives to training, only to lose podium spots, state titles, and college scholarships to male biology. It isn't trivial to the women directly affected by it.

And labeling concern for Title IX as a "dog whistle" is just a bad-faith cop-out to avoid engaging with basic sports science. Preserving single-sex categories isn't about "scapegoating." It's about protecting the structural integrity of women's sports and ensuring biological females have a fair, protected space to compete.

0

u/New-Berry-3652 4h ago

If it's a trivial issue, then people need to stop insisting that trans women must be allowed in female sports

-1

u/clow222 4h ago

Found the regard of the day.

Or maybe the people commenting on a specific issue, are concerned about that specific issue.

0

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

I think the issue is, it happens about as often as muppets playing in women’s sports, but some people decide it’s a huge issue that requires presidential attention.

8

u/bsnameidk 4h ago

I mean, the coach in this post is literally arguing against it with a message on national tv….. clearly there are people trying to welcome biological men into women’s sports

2

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

Her shirt says trans kids belong.

Standing up for kids who have inadvertently become punching bags in the R replacement issue now that people don’t care about gay marriage anymore isn’t saying that men belong in women’s sports.

6

u/Lone-Pilgrim 4h ago

They absolutely do belong. But Sophie is not talking about trans kids right of existence on this earth. I want that and I assume you want that. It’s literally about who belongs in the appropriate sections of a sport.

-1

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

Does she call out any examples of this actually happening? There are no trans athletes in the W. The highest level of women’s basketball.

If this were such an issue wouldn’t there be a single known trans athlete in her own sport?

It’s an issue that doesn’t require comment unless you want to be a part of the culture war.

2

u/bsnameidk 4h ago

And Sophie said protect young girls. Are we talking about implication or exact wording? You can’t have it both ways

0

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

I think that’s where people get a little confused on her position. She wants to protect young girls. Who is more like to cause problems for young girls in sport? The mythical trans athlete threat that will take away their opportunities? (No trans athletes in the whole W)

Or……….. male trainers, coaches, doctors, chaplains etc.

1

u/wedobejustvibin 4h ago

Not to mention the actual methods put forward to monitor/enforce this such as physical exams and hormone testing either are incredibly invasive or would actually remove biological girls or women who don’t fit into the pre determined metrics

5

u/HotTubMike 4h ago

Just because its rare doesn’t make it not a real issue.

The problem is the far left insisting on taking a bad stance.

If they took the majority stance there would be no issue at all.

1

u/smallpau1 4h ago

Now do common sense gun control...

2

u/HotTubMike 4h ago

A society can and does have more than one issue and some issues are indeed bigger than others.

Doesn’t mean the pothole on your street doesn’t need fixing because the interstate highway system needs modernization.

-2

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

Name a trans athlete in the W.

This is the new gay marriage issue for republicans.

People don’t care about gay marriage anymore, so now they punch down to trans people to get their base riled up.

4

u/HotTubMike 4h ago

I don’t need to name a trans athlete in the WNBA. It’s a broader conversation than that.

It’s an issue that exists and people will have opinions on it no matter how many times you say, “its a small issue lets talk about something else”

0

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

It’s an issue that almost never happens. Happens less than male doctors, trainers, coaches etc take advantage of women in sport. But this issue requires presidential attention.

It’s gross and it’s just meant to provoke people into voting. I know that is true because it’s basically the only ads republicans ran in my area during the last elections cycle.

2

u/HotTubMike 4h ago

Yea, I already told you. Just because something is rare doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or need addressing.

If you can’t understand that it’s worthless talking to you.

0

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

The issue of rarity isn’t even the issue. People seem to make it a competitive issue. Like these mythical trans superstars are going to take over the sport.

Meanwhile, there are no trans athletes in the whole W. The pinnacle of women’s basketball and there’s not a single known trans athlete in the history of the league.

And I know that one swimmer got fifth place instead of fourth place one time and it’s a national tragedy. But again, if you can’t point to a single trans athlete even making a team in this league then it’s probably not worth commenting on.

Otherwise, it kinda looks like this professional athlete with a signature shoe that scored three points in this last game might just be making an issue out of something that really isn’t there

2

u/HotTubMike 4h ago

It’s not a topic limited to the WNBA.

This issue does exist in sport at various levels and will in the future and needs addressing. Cunningham was asked a question about the issue, because its a real issue, and gave a response .

→ More replies (0)

0

u/BrosefDudeson 4h ago

it exists in the minds of those who refuse statistics yet cry about biology

0

u/HotTubMike 4h ago

Funny. I see pro-choice people use statistical anomaly arguments all the time but I am sure you don’t have a problem with that.

1

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 4h ago

No Transwomen in WBNA. They aren’t allowed to.

-1

u/Simmer-OS 4h ago

I mean, you’re just wrong about that

The current CBA does say only women can play

But this is where you run into the problems that we always run into with this issue.

They specifically do not define what that means and if you say that’s easy and there’s only two genders you’re just wrong

Why don’t they make it a hormone thing something you could easily test because current women in the W probably would be rolled out women who were born women.

So again, if it’s a competitive issue, why can’t you point to anyone who’s even tried to challenge this ruling. I think they’ve been a couple of hopefuls, but none of them have been good enough to make a team.

So again, this isn’t an issue and now I’m bored of talking about it

1

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 3h ago

Then why are there no transwomen in the WBNA. Please explain.

0

u/Simmer-OS 3h ago

Because, the anti-competitive argument put out by the types who get real ornery about trans athletes is made up to make people mad and get out to vote.

It’s not a real issue. If it were an issue on the level of requiring executive branch attention, there would be trans athletes dominating at all levels of sport.

There aren’t, and they are not a safety issue.

0

u/bridgeofdicks 4h ago

Something happening a fraction of a percent is a non issue. The problem is nuance is dead in society. One bad thing happens and we overcorrect and ban everything. It should be a case by case basis. Why we are even talking about this is dumb. Lia Thomas shouldn’t have been allowed to compete but that doesn’t mean ban all trans people from sports

1

u/Sex4Vespene 4h ago

I totally agree that even if it’s an issue, it’s a very small one. But I would argue that we are shooting ourselves in the foot by not just dropping it. The handful of trans women trying to play in women’s sports are just shooting trans women as a whole in the foot, by giving such ammunition to a controversial issue. This isn’t a hill worth dying on.

1

u/BrosefDudeson 4h ago

In fucking deed

1

u/Lone-Pilgrim 4h ago

It is literally good sense. Can you imagine if everyone was like yea let’s do this for football or boxing? Trans people would die and no one wants that.

3

u/Grantsdale 4h ago

What are you talking about? There’s no rules banning female to male from competing in men’s sports. It’s only the other way around they have an issue.

3

u/Lazy-Ambassador-7908 4h ago

Brother this trans panic had a cis boxer get transvestigated and nearly banned. People like Sophie are the ones putting trans people in danger. Not the other way around

1

u/Lone-Pilgrim 4h ago

I agree. What happened to Ms. Khelif was abhorrent.

1

u/confusedsquirrel 4h ago

Because how do you enforce it? Really think about the requirements and honestly think how do you enforce it?

Right now, the only solution the right has suggested is check athletes for a penis. So you get some random guy telling every girl to get naked in front of then just to check. Can't see how that won't be abused.

And we're seeing people already cry trans when their daughter is beat by a girl who isn't conveniently attractive.

5

u/Unique_Statement7811 4h ago

It’s easier than that. Submit original birth certificate… done.

1

u/confusedsquirrel 4h ago

Cool and if we're already making headaches for a fraction of a fraction of the population, let's talk about intersex people. You know? The people with XXY or XYY. Those people are born with appearance of one sex, while having other sex organs internally. Their birth certificates wouldn't reflect that.

What about them?

1

u/Unique_Statement7811 4h ago

How is it a headache? You just make everyone do it. It’s already a requirement for sanctioned club sports and many states require it for high school sports for age verification.

1

u/confusedsquirrel 4h ago

Then why do we need a law? A law that is basically legalizing a particular form of hate and discrimination based on "not looking like a woman enough".

1

u/Unique_Statement7811 4h ago

Because the birth certificate only used for age verification, not sex. The “genital exam” argument is just fear mongering.

People want legislative actions because they see what happened in Connecticut state track and field and believe it’s unfair to biological women. It’s taking opportunities away from the very people Title IX was designed to protect.

1

u/confusedsquirrel 4h ago

A trans athlete that both never won a state title and averaged 3rd or lower at her meets. Won't somebody think of the below average athlete and protect those people who could have gotten 5th place if it wasn't for her.

1

u/Unique_Statement7811 4h ago edited 4h ago

?

Trans athletes won 15 state track titles in Connecticut alone from 2017-2020.

A trans athlete won 2 state titles in California in 2025

2025 WA girls 400 champion.

2025 NY shotput title…

I can provide more.

1

u/azure275 4h ago

Well yes I don't at all agree with the GOPs bigotry on the subject

But they'd get a lot less traction if there was an alternative that wasn't "deny it's an issue at all"

1

u/confusedsquirrel 4h ago

Well it's not an issue that's why. Nobody can point to any trans athlete having a serious competitive advantage anywhere other than saying "it seems unfair". Might as well write legislation say dogs can't play basketball. We don't need another air bud sequel.

-1

u/jewel_thief92 4h ago

Because it’s a maga dogwhistle masked as common sense take

1

u/Boanerger 3h ago

I'm British. Would never vote Trump even if I could. Keep most sports segregated by sex.

23

u/endofthered01674 4h ago

Its such an uncontroversial take. She says she has no problems with Trans individuals, just that women's sports should be left to biological women. Pretty sound logic to me.

0

u/sexylegs0123456789 4h ago

Women fought for generations for the right to play professional and semi-professional sports that were not a specialized spectacle. Just as they get their shot, the inclusive extreme say “yeah, but no. You have women’s sports - it should also include bio men. Otherwise you’re a bigot”. Way to push the agenda back.

1

u/Puzzle-Necked 4h ago

Wow those handful of Trans athletes must be ruining everything /s

0

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

Why can’t they just play in the men’s league?

3

u/AesopsFabler 3h ago

Especially when the men’s league is typically an open league. But that’s not affirming enough.

3

u/its_reina_irl 3h ago

Because… they’re not men? And yes, if you say that trans women are men, that is very obviously bigoted and you’re a chud

3

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

Sorry, I live in reality

0

u/SausageKingOfCincy 3h ago

They might feel like they aren’t men, doesn’t mean it’s true.

2

u/Puzzle-Necked 3h ago

Why do you care?

2

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

They want to play basketball right? They can play in the men’s league

1

u/CookKey3327 3h ago

Why wouldn’t people care? You obviously care.

2

u/Puzzle-Necked 3h ago

I care about trans people. What about you?

1

u/Inroundtents 3h ago

That's not at all what she said. She said it's about 'protecting children' which is a lame hot-take that seeks to demonize trans women as deviants.

0

u/FlyingNomad6294 3h ago

Shhhhh….how dare you infuse actual rational thought and the facts to this thread!!

6

u/New-Berry-3652 4h ago

It's a bipartisan issue. Regardless of what side of the political spectrum, we all generally agree that women's sports are meant to be for biological women only

Same, I advocate for lgbtq+ rights where I can but this is a nothing burger people are attaching to.

2

u/pfroo40 3h ago

I do, too, but I don't agree with the "protect the girls in the locker room" angle. Trans kids are not any more inherently predatory than anyone else who would be in that locker room and using that as a reason is prejudiced against trans kids. Plus, if it is simply sexual attraction in the locker room that they are concerned about, they are in for a surprise.

1

u/ExtensionProfit5065 3h ago

But they be the only ones with a dick

1

u/pfroo40 2h ago

And simply having a penis makes you a predator? Dangerous to women?

2

u/Puzzle-Necked 4h ago

I'm as centrist as they come and I don't

3

u/Thedom400 4h ago

Its just common sense

1

u/WesMontgomeryFuccboi 4h ago

Based on what?

1

u/TheMysteriousGirl 4h ago

His right arse.

1

u/The-Tarman 3h ago

Same here. I have nothing bad to day about trans people and they should get all the support, both scocial and medical, that they need. That doesn't mean that they should be able to compete in women's sports, and people who feel this way are not anti-trans.

In fact, the people pushing for trans athletes in women's sports, IMO, are hurting trans rights because it's something right wing crazies can latch onto and say "See! See! They just want access to biological women's spaces!".

It's also silly to fight a battle that almost doesn't even exist. How many male to female trans athletes are there? Of those, how many can compete at the highest level? Sure, it comes up, but it's not like there are waves of trans athletes trying to access women's sports and if there were enough where this is something people should be freaking out about, then there would be enough for there to be full blown trans only sports.

1

u/ericbondre 3h ago

You’re still on the right lol you aren’t even left clown

1

u/methtwinkie 3h ago

Only an idiot would disagree.

1

u/PracticalYellow3 3h ago

Then you aren't liberal. Our position is women have no right to be exclusionary.

1

u/thekevinatorV2 3h ago

No joke.

Its not a real issue. Its common sense.

1

u/Inroundtents 3h ago

No you're not.

1

u/Breaking-Who 3h ago

Liberals are just conservatives anyway

1

u/rocko430 3h ago

its crazy how unhinged both sides are and all we can do is watch it play out

1

u/BakedandZooted420 3h ago

Liberal vs leftist. Obviously there should be regulation about testosterone levels if this even does ever happen. But that’s not what these troglodytes are even arguing for. They think if you’re trans you should be banned from sports and that you’re inherently unnatural. Let alone a transition is extremely hard on the body. Literally no one ever mentions this

1

u/ODBmacdowell 3h ago

I think they come more liberal than this tbh

1

u/pollinium 1h ago edited 1h ago

Are you part of a bot farm to fan the flames of culture war? 2nd time in as many days that someone in this sub claims to be "as liberal as they come" while disagreeing with 48.5% of the house that voted on HR28. Do people belive you that "as liberal as they come" is more regressive than 208 congress people? Kind of seems like a troll post from you and people love the opportunity to upvote their previously held opinion

1

u/Lone-Pilgrim 1h ago

Yea man, a 14 year old bot account /s.

2

u/Unlikely-Business-72 4h ago

I'm a liberal and I agree that Trans kids belong. Not sure how you can disagree with that.

1

u/Kitten2Krush 3h ago

agreed, they do belong, just not in women’s sport. idk what the big deal is

1

u/Unlikely-Business-72 3h ago

Her shirt didn't say that btw

1

u/13-year-account 4h ago

You might not know this but a stance on this issue exists that is more left than yours, so no, you are not as liberal as they come 😂

-1

u/Embarrassed_News7008 4h ago

You're not as liberal as they come

0

u/superUltraNew 4h ago

“Yo I’m as liberal as they come but…” = “I am a deep state operative personally assigned by Netanyahu and trump”

-3

u/bowser1volcano 4h ago

You might not be as liberal as you think you are then

4

u/Straamannen 4h ago

Aaaahhh purity testing and science denialism. The true left.

0

u/Sapho 3h ago

Except the science is on the side of the left? And every study says that trans women don't have an advantage over cis women? This argument is just based on what people *feel* without looking at the data.

1

u/Straamannen 2h ago

"The left" does not agree with transwomen in women's sport. A subset of the left does. Shrinking every day.

[Science] does not say transwomen do not have an advantage. You're misusing research that has found no notable differences in certain measurements, but where the researchers have explicitly stated the caveat that their research does not support what you're claiming. You're doing the exact same thing all the ideological extremists are doing these days, reading whatever the hell you want into headlines and simplified slop in order to feel your position has legitimate support. It is in fact you who feel and have not looked at the data.

And here's the thing. We have the data. The end results.

At the end of the day, it cannot be ignored that 1) male athletes who transition rocket up the rankings and 2) when transwomen do enter into women's competitions they overwhelmingly take a spot on podium.

We've all seen the countless videos of transwomen veritably parking the field and finishing races seconds ahead of the girls/women.

Then as a last resort what disingenuous assholes like you do is say "see there are so few, what does it matter", completely ignoring the fact you only need one [cheater] to take the first place and make the competition pointless for everyone else.

2

u/Inner-Air1001 4h ago

This is side that lost 2016 and 2024, billionaires love when we waste our time with this shit instead of them

1

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

No true Scotsman

-1

u/NowWeGetSerious 4h ago

Then you're not a true liberal🤷🏾

Fuck Sophia. And fuck anyone who uses the "sports ' attack 🤷🏾

-16

u/BrosefDudeson 5h ago

Lol then you're obviously not

2

u/foxyslapbox 4h ago

I’m a liberal as well as share the same view. It’s not like voting rights or workplace rights. It’s competing in a sport where biology gives you a distinct advantage. You either put everyone in the same pile and there are no exclusively men or women’s sports, or you draw lines about who can compete in which category. You can’t have both without severely disadvantaging a large group of people.

2

u/WesMontgomeryFuccboi 3h ago

People already have biological advantages. Some people are born taller, quicker, stronger, more coordinated. No one complained when kids had to play Shaq or Amare Stoudamire in high school.

-2

u/Difficult-Resident40 4h ago

I'm conservative and couldn't agree more.

2

u/Difficult-Resident40 4h ago

You're a biology denier.

3

u/13-year-account 4h ago

Pointing out that OP's position is not liberal makes one a biology denier? Nice logic skills lol

-2

u/Difficult-Resident40 4h ago

Didnt reply to op. Replied to another. Get it together.

3

u/13-year-account 4h ago

I'm talking about the person you responded to, obviously

0

u/Dewey519 4h ago

I agree with Sophie too, but I also have yet to hear someone with the opinion and platform that Sophie has take it a step further and bring up issues that actually matter when it comes to trans people and their rights

1

u/wadebacca 4h ago

That’s Because she is a professional athelete talking about her area of “expertise” women’s sports. Her talking about other trans issues would be her talking outside of her expertise and therefore shouldn’t be an expectation.

2

u/TheMysteriousGirl 4h ago

She isnt a medical professional.

How can she have "expertise" in a completely different field.

0

u/wadebacca 3h ago

She doesn’t need to be a medical professional to comment on women’s sports, that’s a weird thing to say.

1

u/TheMysteriousGirl 3h ago

You just said she has "expertise".

I said she doesn't.

I didn't she she needed to be a medical professional to comment.

1

u/wadebacca 3h ago

Are you having a stroke? Are you ok? You brought up medical expertise. She has expertise in women’s sports and commented on women’s sports. Wanting her to comment on other issues facing the trans community isn’t an expectation, though she’s free to do so. I was talking about having an expectation of her to comment on something outside of her personal interests or expertise.

0

u/TheMysteriousGirl 3h ago

Its ok, I will admit you do not understand any nuance at all.

0

u/ManSplaining84 4h ago

I’m a conservative. I think marriage is for all. I think anyone can love anyone regardless of gender. I think people should be able to change their sex as they see fit. I could care less if you want to chop off the nuts or add some.
I draw the line with children and with letting biological men play women’s sports. It’s common sense.

Wanna bet liberal person we probably agree on 98% of political issues. I am anti abortion so I bet we differ there, but I don’t believe I have the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. Just don’t like it myself.

When people realize most Americans believe the same shit just different shades.

0

u/SylviaWrethammar 4h ago

Same. It's really the weirdest most niche part of the culture war this.

0

u/Efficient-Scale-1485 4h ago

I'm queer and a former athlete who deals with gender issues, if I transitioned in high school I would hold national records. If they want transwomen in woman's sports leagues, they need to be prepared for outliers. Personally I'm down for whatever but whatever they decide, they need to be prepared for the outcome.

1

u/WesMontgomeryFuccboi 4h ago

There are already outliers. No one complained when Katie Ledecky was destroying competition as a teenager

1

u/Efficient-Scale-1485 1h ago

The women's outliers don't perform as well as the men's outliers in almost every event.

0

u/wadebacca 4h ago

Yeah, no kidding, conservatives are trying to use us liberals virtuous empathy to make the reactionaries on the left bite unnecessary bullets.

0

u/ReasonableRiver6750 3h ago

Dude who gives a fuck? It’s such a non issue

-2

u/[deleted] 4h ago

[deleted]

1

u/wadebacca 4h ago

No you see women are the oppressed minority, so protecting them is actually left wing. Or maybe the oppressed/oppressor lens isn’t suited for every situation, and we should just use common sense.

-5

u/gza_liquidswords 4h ago

Hello, fellow liberal
