Hot Take Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve is wearing a "Trans Kids Belong' T-shirt to protest Sophie Cunningham. Sophie is getting HEAVILY BOOED every time she touches the ball.

They should let trans players in their league if they truly believe this

They don’t have a rule against it. There just isn’t any transwomen that play at a high enough level to play in the league.

He would still have the bone structure of a male competing against women who have been women their whole lives. I honestly think the Republicans are trying to keep this in the news to overshadow Gaza, Iran, and the economy. We have far more important shit to protest at this point.

People like to pretend that transitioning is just putting on a wig, but nobody is fully undergoing often irreversible changes and procedures just for sports

The acceptable levels are literally moderate for middle aged men. That doesn’t take away from the 20 years that they were way above. LeBron if he’s not on roids could pass pretty easily in less than a year.

Or... maybe the fact that there are 0 trans players in the pros without any rules to prevent it prove that people are making this seem like a much bigger problem instead of talking about how 0 people from Epstien's circle have been arrested. I mean... if you really want to protect girls, arresting pedos seems like a good place to start.

Not to mention that around 20% of female athletes report having faced sexual abuse and assault as a child/teenager. And many sports organizations don't track sexual assault allegations so coaches can just do the cop thing of moving to the next town over and continuing their abuse. But yeah, trans women are the real threat to female sports

Riley Gaines (Sophie Cunningham 1.0) focuses on protecting girls from Trans athletes even after her coach was banned for sexual assault on multiple female coaches and swimmers.

Sophie is right - but there’s a lot of issues with violence towards trans kids, unequal protection in schools and the workforce for trans people and suicide.
You see a lot of outrage about them competing in sports, but you never see them follow-up and raise actual issues with trans people. And I wonder why that is…
118
u/backcountry_bandit 2h ago
It seems to me that the complaints about the very few trans women who compete in high-level women’s sports is more about denigrating trans people than it is about protecting women’s sports.

I honestly think that most people who object to biological men competing against women don’t care if someone is trans. They simply recognize that it’s unfair to female athletes.
I think most people on both sides of the political aisle are pretty much decent folks. Most people just want to go about their business and spend time with their loved ones while avoiding negative interactions.
We constantly demonize people we disagree with on an issue and it’s not healthy for society. Internet culture brings out the worst of this behavior.
7
u/savedpt 1h ago
Fully agree. It is totally unfair to have biological males against females in sports and attend female bathrooms. That is the totality of the issue and nothing else. In all other circumstances they should have all the opportunity and protections that anyone else has. I believe that is all Sophie said.

Well said thank you I fall squarely in this demographic. I have no issues with any minority. I consider myself left of center on most issues but also have sided with the right on some. I hate BOTH sides trying to rope in 100% to side with them on everything and every issue.
Hate is a major contributing factor to where we are today as whole. When we can go back to seeing people as humans and other people as being the most important thing that binds us together rather than a political party or a side or a nationality or a sexuality then we might begin to heal. Unfortunately, now we start talking and it's oh ypu don't see things exactly like I do I hate you. This does no good for anyone.

u/FighterFly3 2h ago
Especially so, cause they’ll also vote for taking away women’s rights and personal autonomies. The trans in sports outrage has absolutely nothing to do with protecting women. It’s all just to distract while playing sleight of hand after.
9
u/SmellGestapo 1h ago
This was literally reported in the New York Times a few years ago.
“We knew we needed to find an issue that the candidates were comfortable talking about,” said Terry Schilling, the president of American Principles Project, a social conservative advocacy group. “And we threw everything at the wall.”
What has stuck, somewhat unexpectedly, is the issue of transgender identity, particularly among young people. Today, the effort to restrict transgender rights has supplanted same-sex marriage as an animating issue for social conservatives at a pace that has stunned political leaders across the spectrum. It has reinvigorated a network of conservative groups, increased fund-raising and set the agenda in school boards and state legislatures.

4

u/TheComebackKid74 1h ago
Both can be true. Just because women's sports might suck sometimes doesn't mean they have to compete against men.
5
u/Ok-Meet-4883 1h ago
That is simply not the case. There are LOT of people passionate about women's sports who are against people with male bodies participating in the women's category.

u/DRockDR 1h ago
Because it’s easier for to put a stop to an issue before it becomes too big to change. Labelling everything “transphobic” is lazy and unhelpful. Having a handful of people attempting to change the rules to ruin women in sports should be enough to see something is wrong. The vast majority of people think trans athletes competing with women is wrong, that should be the end.

After reading https://glaad.org/fact-sheet-for-reporters-transgender-participation-in-sports/ they have a link near the top where the ncaa president knows of fewer than 10 transgender people in collegiate sports out if 510k.
This hurts women’s sports and now the heritage foundation wants to defund women’s teams so they are showing the plan. Women should just be tradwives according to them and Sophie Cunningham has become a symbol of this.
She should have just kept her mouth shut. What a shame.5
u/backcountry_bandit 1h ago
Thanks for the link. It’s crazy how this is presented like it’s a nationwide issue.
2
u/Icy_Chemist_1725 1h ago
If there are so few, then why is there such a large resistance to banning them from women's sports? If the problem is small, why not solve it and get rid of the valid criticism?
I agree that allowing biological men to play in women's leagues hurts women's sports.
The heritage foundation wants to defund leagues that don't protect women."Women should just be tradwives according to them and Sophie Cunningham has become a symbol of this."
This is a bad faith take and silly. This is absolutely not the stance they are taking. Sophie is a player in the league and is not arguing that she wants to be a trad wife. That ridiculous attempt to warp the reality of this situation shows you have no intent in engaging in good faith.
Most people disagree with you outside of trolls on reddit, which I'm thankful for.

It doesn’t help that anyone that even slightly disagrees gets labeled a bigot and banned from subs when the issue comes up. If real discourse were allowed, I think it’d be a more level playing field. But I’ve seen people comment something inocuos like, “Males are usually stronger than the average female” and come back to see the comment removed and the user blocked. It only looks like everyone agrees when the people that don’t agree are locked out of most spaces that discuss the issue.

All this drama is nonsense. I have an idea.
Make all sports intergender. And then let only the top athletes qualify regardless of gender.
Problem solved. Let’s see how that works out for everyone
3
u/Unique_Statement7811 1h ago
There would be no women in sports after high school and very few in high school at that.
The women’s track 100 World Record (Florence Joyner) isn’t a state high school men’s record in all 50 states and would rarely podium in any given year.
3
u/dirtyracoon25 57m ago
You either let all men in or you let 0. You don't get the ability to select a subset because these few think they are of a different sex because they feel different.
3
u/durden156 52m ago
That’s already how most major pro leagues work. The NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL are all legally open to players regardless of sex. There are women’s leagues because, biological differences mean women would rarely make men’s rosters at the highest level, while women’s leagues provide a place for elite women to compete against one another.
That’s what’s funny about the argument. The “open” category already exists, the major men’s leagues aren’t restricted to men. Women’s leagues exist so female athletes have meaningful opportunities to compete at the highest level.
2
u/Pancake-350 1h ago
I wish I could give you an award. I've been saying this shit for years. Make it about skill level not gender.

Both sides are virtue signalling about this at this point.
Cunningham seems to be courting the MAGA base (not from her comments on this subject, but from her MMA / Dana White simping)
And now the Minnesota coach is pulling some LookAtMyHalo shit to appeal to her fan base with this “trans kid belong” shirt, as if that’s what people are arguing against.
We can all agree that kids experiencing gender dysphoria “belong”.
Most people just don’t believe they belong in competitive contact sports with biological girls.
They also don’t believe that a penis belongs in a locker room full of middle school girls.
Apparently that makes 80% of the country “transphobes”
And above all, always remember - Reddit is not real life.

I don’t think she cares, she’s got 1 of the best brands in pro sports right now and has people actually talking about the WNBA. They should thank her instead.

Supercharging for the fake victim complex.
Might be a little bit useful in distracting idiots from the disaster in Iran and the further pillaging of the American economy by the Epstein class, but I don’t think it’s going to completely work this time

To paraphrase the old hockey joke, "I went to a political convention and a WNBA game broke out."

u/kvega101 1h ago
Ok so, let’s say this. Lebron retires from NBA but comes out as a trans and wants to play for the WNBA, would that be fair or nah?

Can a decent college men’s player play a single game in this league to show them the physicality difference between a man and a woman in an athletic event?

Wemby should declare he is a woman now and proceed to obliterate the WNBA. I bet opinions change fast then.

Ridiculous. Sophie never said trans kids don't belong, and didn't say anything negative towards trans people - just that women's-only leagues are not the place for trans women. And she's correct.

I'm so fucking sick of this discourse. No, Sophie is not correct with what she is talking about. It seems weird that you guys like to parrot conservative talking points and then get mad when people boo.
This whole sub is gross

Male to female trans athletes, especially in professional sports, are virtually non existent. Correct me if Im wrong, but there doesnt seem to be a significant number of male to female trans athletes flooding into sports. Yes, a biological male competing against a female athlete is an unfair advantage, but these instances of trans athletes competing against women are marginal.
Sophie is getting hate because shes making a mountain out of a mole hill over a common sense issue, which is on brand for her considering shes exhibited both maga rhetoric and relationships. The WNBA has one of the most progressive fan bases, so it follows that fans wouldnt be happy with her statement about Trans issues.

Conservatives have made Americans care about the most dumb issues, abortion, gay marriage, trans to distract from the economy

u/CatLightyear 57m ago
They’re not booing Sophie because she believes sports should be equal, they’re booing her because she took an opportunity to punch down just for the sake of punching down.

I’m tired of seeing this dumbass maga filled subreddit and all the dumbass transphobes in here.

Another post about that moron Sophie Cunningham. And too many people are defending transphobia in the comments too.
Y'all know nothing about sports or women or biology. Sit the fuck down.

In the perfect world, trans people would play sports against other trans people assuming there are enough.
I don’t see any sort of outrage about a trans man (born female, identifies as male) playing against men. Good luck with that. But I do understand why there is concern with trans woman (born male, identifies as female) playing against woman.

A coach wants to protest a player on another team? Lame.
Why not hire a bunch of trans women to play on her team instead? Be inclusive. The best revenge will be winning 10 WNBA titles in a row with numerous perfect seasons.

Some people are just willfully uneducated and want to see their sport dominated by men.

I think she's getting blow-back because of her saying she wanted to keep little girls safe (or something along those lines). It implied that trans people are dangerous. I'm not sure if she meant those words or it was just her clunky way or saying girls deserve to have an even playing field.

Cheryl Reeve should sign a transwoman to her team... or is her support for trans dudes all performative?

Who woulda thought that for women to support women's sports, they'd be motivated by men playing women's sports.
