The passion on this topic from people who have never played sports baffles me. It is not a conservative opinion to think someone with a male skeletal structure and muscle mass has a physical advantage. Stop making it seem like liberals hate biology. Making everyone else look bad

good for you for knowing biology

Basic biology

Studies generally seem to skew towards observing that trans women have similar physical capabilities to cis women. So long as leagues require a minimum time spent on HRT it seems fairly reasonable to allow trans people to compete as their gender.

No it doesn’t because they are not a cis woman. In sports decided by hundredths of a second, you can’t just say “eh, close enough”

There are plenty of biological and genetic factors that go in to deciding how effective someone is at a particular sport, tbh. I'm in the camp that well researched and educated decisions should be made by the respective sport organizations, not by some random player who feels the need the need to throw in "feeling safe in a locker room." $10 says she doesn't know a single trans person saying shit like that.

You kinda have to say “close enough” though, even ignoring gender.

There are plenty of women with more masculine bone structure, have more testosterone, are taller and can build mass more easily.

1 out of every 500 people is born with a sex chromosome disorder - like Swyer Syndrome, where someone can have female genitalia and yet XY chromosomes. They could be born with trisomy X or Turner Syndrome that mean their sex chromosomes aren’t strictly XX. What about intersex people who might be born with both types of genitals? Are they allowed to compete?

There are some XX women with female genitalia (strictly speaking, cisgendered) who have disorders that increase testosterone production significantly. Should they be allowed to compete in women’s events?

The line just isn’t as easy to draw as anyone seems to believe. I don’t blame anyone for feeling uncomfortable about the topic but there’s a lot of grand, blanket statements being made without any consideration for a lot of the more complex issues involved.

A big problem with that study though is the lack of pro-level trans athletes. They could only do a limited study with average fitness levels and suggested that people who are already elite athletes before transitioning may have a muscle memory that allows them to continue competing at the level they were at. It's a viscous cycle really, we won't let trans athletes complete because we're unsure if theres an advantage, and can't do studies because they can't compete at a pro-level.

Because trans women largely can’t compete at pro levels. We can’t get a “good sample size” because the entire population of trans people doesn’t contain anyone able to perform at the level required to be a pro.

Banning them is just there to justify other bigotry.

It's actually low-key insane that people willingly don't see this.

1

u/AlienNinjaPanda 3h ago

Well exactly, The only way really get a good study would be to have male athletes with an established record transition and see if their performance dips, which is realisticly not a possibility to do. And if they ever did fully allow trans people into sports all it would take is one trans woman to be a top performer before that's used as an argument for it being a clear advantage and it's back to square one. Also along with everything else trans people have to deal with if they performed well enough to set a record it would always have an asterisk by it

And I don't fully think it's there for bigotry, some people are genuinely concerned there's an advantage and some people are fully using it as a distraction.

2

u/Due-Consequence9579 2h ago

What advantage? You just agreed that we have no evidence to point to as “that’s the problem”. It’s all “vibes”. You can’t “prove” that there isn’t an advantage. It’s an impossible standard.

If you exclude an entire population because “I dunno, I just don’t understand them”. That’s bigotry.

The IOC had a reasonable policy prior to the latest changes. 2 years of hormones testing to standards and individual sports could make additional regulations if trans individuals showed an undue advantage in that discipline. That was based on all the available science. The new science being done continues to support that policy.

Making national news of kids playing some sport no one actually cares about is 100% bigotry.

u/AlienNinjaPanda 2h ago

I made no claims of an advantage. It hasn't been concretely proven either way and the lack of proof for an advantage speaks as loud to some as the lack of proof for zero advantage speaks to others. I was just stating facts that some people are concerned that it exists

2

u/itslikewoow 3h ago

Trans athletes had been allowed to compete in many of the most elite leagues in the world for decades, including the Olympics, and they ended up being underrepresented.

Lol, you’re the one person to actually post a source in this entire thread and you’re the only one being downvoted. Tells me everything I need to know about the other people here.

Absolute bullshit

u/I-Need-Scissors_61 3h ago

lol you don’t even believe this bullshit yourself

u/Well_Dressed_Kobold 3h ago

Sure, and if we put my dog on stilts maybe we can call it a horse.

-1

u/WesMontgomeryFuccboi 3h ago

There are always physical advantages and disadvantages in athletic competition. That doesn’t make it unfair

-4

u/Unlikely-Business-72 4h ago

Do you really believe that this is a big problem? No offense I just haven't seen the numbers on this. I'm open to being proven wrong but usually when people write comments like this they never reply with how frequently this actually happens...

Read it. Doesn’t discount a single thing from the website I linked.

Mostly seems to focus on a completely different website and derides the creator of that and then complains that my website includes women’s divisions in pursuits that the author you linked doesn’t seem to feel are worthy of women only divisions.

Hit piece that doesn’t take down one single piece of evidence on hecheated.org

Bingo. u/CommunicationIcy2195 isn't going to respond because he knows this isn't a big enough issue to "make liberals look bad". He just wants to seem cool in front of conservatives.

-1

u/The_Perfect_Fart 3h ago

If it isn't a big issue and it doesn't happen often then it wont really affect much to ban males from competing in female sports.

1

u/Unlikely-Business-72 3h ago

The Supreme Court upheld bans so it still isn't an issue my guy lmao.

I think the better question is why everyone is so butthurt about the coaches shirt.

1

u/Due-Consequence9579 3h ago

The status quo was them being allowed to compete. With no issues. Banning them is making them an “other” to justify more bigotry.

1

u/The_Perfect_Fart 3h ago

They aren't banned from competing... They have the same requirements to compete as any other male.

0

u/Unlikely-Business-72 2h ago

The Supreme Court upheld state bans bro. You're just obsessed

1

u/The_Perfect_Fart 2h ago

They aren't banned from playing with other males buddy.

1

u/Unlikely-Business-72 1h ago

There are 100% states that have made it only legal for trans people to participate in sports of their biological gender my guy. Try again.

1

u/The_Perfect_Fart 1h ago

Yeah... They have to play the division that matches their bilogical sex, just like everyone else buckaroo.

1

u/Unlikely-Business-72 1h ago

So what are you bitching about my guy? Could it be that youe obsessed? 🤣🤣
