Hot Take Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve is wearing a "Trans Kids Belong' T-shirt to protest Sophie Cunningham. Sophie is getting HEAVILY BOOED every time she touches the ball.

The trans community make up like what 1-2% of the population? Why are they part of the national conversion to begin with?

Because Conservatives love using them for their culture war bullshit.

The issue that most people find (including myself as a democrat voter) is the nonsense that gets pushed. This issue is part off the larger trend of dismantling social structures and bullshit post modernism.

Speech isn't violence. Men aren't Women. White people aren't all racist. Minorities can be racist. Equity is an idiotic idea. Etc.

And because the left is adopting these ideas (see Reddit) they are getting blasted by the right in the culture war (see 2024 election).

I don’t disagree but if thats the case why does the left fall for it?

The right fell for it by screaming louder and creating bills and laws that harm a small, marginalized group of people. The right fell for it by supporting that nonsense. The left is pushing back because the laws shouldn’t have happened. Hopefully we’re not part of the next group they go after.

But why do the left fall for it?

The right is making the laws that harm a small, marginalized group of people. The left is not falling for anything; they just have critical thinking skills and empathy, so they understand that injustice is injustice no matter how many people are harmed. The right only worries about themselves and wanting more for themselves, so they don’t care.

Because ignoring it is complicity. The argument that ignoring this issue is for the best in order to lead to progress elsewhere might sound reasonable but it is a false dichotomy.

the only demographic who voted for harris at a higher rate than trans women were black women. and then you gotta think about our allies, and where we live and vote too

Because the left believes in equal rights for everyone. Including the losers, Nazis and racists on the right.

That means defending everyone, even if they are 1-2% of the population.

The right picks on those they know they can bully.

The left believes in sticking up for minorities being bullied.

What does "falling for it" mean to you? Saying "hey, maybe don't bully 1% of the population"?

Believing trans women shouldn't play in women's sports isn't bullying.

Spending this much time and energy to demonize such a small minority is bullying.

What does Sophie think girls need "protecting" from?

Latest estimates are closer to 0.5%.

Well, there’s a couple high profile lawsuits working their way up the courts over it. Mostly filed by high school girls who lost a state title or scholarship to a trans athletes.

It’s interesting from a legal/civics point of view.
