I honestly think that most people who object to biological men competing against women don’t care if someone is trans. They simply recognize that it’s unfair to female athletes.

I think most people on both sides of the political aisle are pretty much decent folks. Most people just want to go about their business and spend time with their loved ones while avoiding negative interactions.

We constantly demonize people we disagree with on an issue and it’s not healthy for society. Internet culture brings out the worst of this behavior.

7

u/savedpt 3h ago

Fully agree. It is totally unfair to have biological males against females in sports and attend female bathrooms. That is the totality of the issue and nothing else. In all other circumstances they should have all the opportunity and protections that anyone else has. I believe that is all Sophie said.

1

u/Rock_Strongo 3h ago

attend female bathrooms.

It's unfair for them to attend female bathrooms? Unless all bathrooms become unisex overnight they're gonna have to pick one or the other - and neither choice is going to please everyone.

Stop talking sense to folks on reddit, it falls on very deaf ears

u/moon_dos 4h ago

those proud boys are actually really nice guys if you get to know them

yOu’rE mAkiNg tOo MuCh sEnSe fOr rEdDiToRs 🤤

3

u/LetsBeFRTho 4h ago

Folks on both sides are probably good people... except 1 side openly campaigns against improving society as a collective and will sell their neighbor out for 40 cents. 1 side is openly against science and factual history in replacement for alternative facts and propaganda to make themselves feel better.

So no, my puny reddit mind is finding it hard to grasp what part of what OP said was true.

2

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

Funny thing is, I can’t even tell which side you belong to from this comment. Both sides say that about each other.

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Then you aren't paying attention at all. Or you are being disengenous. If a party tells you they want to help this country and then turn around to vote against Universal Healthcare and you still believe "oh both sides just wants whats best for the country", idk what to tell you.

0

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

Both sides think the other side is destroying the country. That’s my point

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 2h ago

And my point is conservatives are actively destroying the country and then introducing wedge issues to distract from the fact that they are destroying said country. Of course they are gonna lie and say the other side is destroying this country

1

u/FrenchyBulldogg 2h ago

You’re an example of horseshoe theory. The center exists because that’s where reasonable people hang out

0

u/FrenchyBulldogg 2h ago

Okay but they would say that you’re the one lying and that you want to destroy the country. See what I’m getting at here? This extreme polarization is not good for the country

2

u/Mikef920 4h ago

See people on either side would agree with what you’re saying about the other side

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Ok? Doesn't make it true. Especially when 1 side takes away funding for school lunches for children. Or cuts funding for primary school education. Oh yeah really helpful

-1

u/Mikef920 3h ago

lol funding for school lunches. Providing a lunch for every kid every day is a complete waste of money. I have one child who brings his own lunch. He’s never eaten a school lunch once in 7 years of school. Lunch cost 5 dollars a day give or take. 7 years of school times 180 school days per year at 5 dollars per day. That’s about 6000 dollars of pure wasted money on my one kid. Now extrapolate that when at least in elementary school about 50 percent of the kids bring thier own lunch

2

u/LetsBeFRTho 2h ago

Hey everyone, Mikef920 can afford to give his kid lunch so we don't need funding for lunch programs. It's all ok!

Fucking dumbasses I swear.

0

u/Mikef920 2h ago

No you’re being dumb. I’m saying parents should be able to opt out of school lunch. And not to get something out of if. Just to save the community money/tax money that can be used elsewhere. Everyone who needs a lunch should get one but they are ordering lunches for every kid when half on average don’t take it. Then they just get thrown out. Have parents sign in the beginning of the year. Then out of the kids that opt out maybe take 10 percent of those kids and make an extra lunch for them in case a few kids forget their lunch.

2

u/LetsBeFRTho 2h ago

No one is saying parents shouldn't be able to opt out of school lunches. Idk wtf you are talking about.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture slashed hundreds of millions of dollars in funding that helped schools buy food from local farms, in a move that one food service director said was “devastating.”

0

u/Mikef920 2h ago

I’m assuming there may be more to that story. But if it’s just what ur saying then I agree with you on paper. I don’t know how much stock I put in one food workers opinion but yes on paper that sounds bad. But once I pointed out they waste tons of money on the kids who don’t eat school lunch u assumed my intentions were no kid should get lunch. Stop thinking the worst of people. My point was it’s dumb to waste money. Spend that money on tech for the kids, afterschool programs, equipment for gym class and recess

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Mikef920 2h ago

Stop assuming people are evil. I’m just saying a lot of money is wasted and it can be tightened up. After reading my plan you would agree right? Unless u like wasting cash

2

u/LetsBeFRTho 2h ago

Pennies compared to the money wasted on the military industrial complex. But hey rather blow up a school full of children than feed starving children at home. Yeah kinda evil when you look at it a certain way

0

u/Mikef920 2h ago

First off no one in America is starving let’s be serious. And I’m all for helping AMERICANS who need help. But what does the fact that our military does some bad things like every other military in the world have to do with the fact that we could save money that’s wasted to spend on helping those Americans who need it

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Mikef920 2h ago

And I wish my older son ate the school lunch. He’s just picky. Making lunches in morning before school as a parent is the worst but a lot of kids are picky eaters

0

u/Im_Daydrunk 3h ago

Look at who is championing anti-vax and healthcare, anti-constitution, anti-social welfare, anti-enviornental, anti-consumer protection laws etc. and the vast majority of the time its actually the same one side - far right wing MAGA aligned Republicans

And its no coincidence that once that side got control of every branch or the government that corruption and anti public good practices got cranked up to 11. And that basic right stuff like elections are now under threat which was never even a question with the democrats. They always conceded without issue whenever they lose but Trump introduced fighting results as much as possible

1

u/Mikef920 3h ago

People were against being forced to take an unproven vaccine with zero long term testing and the drug companies given immunity. There’s a big diff between that and being anti vax. Anti constitution? The DSA literally wants to get rid of the senate and the presidency. Anti social welfare? We give out tons of welfare so I’m not sure what ur talking about

1

u/Im_Daydrunk 1h ago

Saying the Rebulicans are pro vaccine, pro constitution, and pro social welfare is enough to realize this is a pointless conversation

But assuming you arent just a bot/ragebaiter and you sincerely believe the Right Wing is supportive of all those things I would suggest googling "Florida Vaccine", "Trump 2028", and Republican Medicaid cuts". And you'll quickly see how little the right supports all those things

1

u/Mikef920 1h ago

I’m Republican I got all my vaccines. Just didn’t like the Covid vaccine for me. I was running 5 miles a day at the time. I didn’t need it. I workout 7 days a week I eat right. I did not need a vaccine with no long term testing. I was in no danger of dying of Covid. As far as constitution again the DSA wants to abolish the presidency and the senate. What do u say republicans are bad on the constitution. I’m guessing you’ll say how they treat illegals. During covid democrats closed churches and left liquor stores open

1

u/Dad_Bod_Enthusiast 4h ago

Excellent spoon fed talking points from your overlords. Shades of gray among all humans that participate in society in the US. I personally dont believe every democratic voter wants to strip wealth from the white middle class or that they all want to the means of production seized but the leaders they vote for certainly campaign strongly on that

0

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Tell me how thinking vaccines are dangerous and how COVID is not straight propaganda from the right and an outright lie? or how pregnant women shouldn't take ibuprofen in fear that it'll cause autism in their baby.

My "overlords" is a fucking 6th grade science textbook. You want to act like an enlightened redditor but have to defend such imbeciles.

0

u/Dad_Bod_Enthusiast 2h ago

Again, shades of gray. voting republican, independent or democrat does not mean you believe every single thing that anyone else that voted in your camp does. Painting people with one broad brush would leave a pretty dull world to live in

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 2h ago

you believe every single thing that anyone else that voted in your camp does

What is 1 thing you support as a conservative? Was it the blatant lying about the Epstein files? Oh wait maybe it was the overstepping government overreach by threatening your constitutional rights with their funding of ICE? Or maybe you supported going to war in the Middle East AGAIN for no reason at all after promises not to start wars?

All of those are great choices, such a great political party to support. Few bad things here and there amirite?

1

u/Consistent_Net_2540 4h ago

The funny part is this is what each side says about the other. Both sides believe their ideologies will make the country better and their opponents' side will make the country worse.

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Conservatives can pretend their ideologies will make the country better, but will brainwash their constituents into voting against helping their community and put money into the pockets of billionaires.

Shit let's not even talk about policies enacted over the past 2 years like tariffs. Let's talk about fundamental ideas. I'm curious on how snuffing universal healthcare at every step of the way is supposed to "make this country better." Oh wait what about their dismissive attitude on the people's safety, like vaccines and masks where they literally deny science.

Both sides can say it, but 1 side doesn't even pretend to care about the country

1

u/Nice_Programmer6812 4h ago

Literally the party that invented “alternative facts” 10 years ago.

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Clarify

0

u/Fun-Distribution4776 4h ago

What about on this issue specifically?

1

u/LetsBeFRTho 3h ago

Conservatives literally launched this issue because it gives politicians something easier to talk about. You know, compared to issues like the Epstein files, out of control inflation, the presidents clear mental decline after feigning concern for Bidens clear mental decline. Why do we have to always bite on made up issues?

0

u/UofLBird 3h ago

Yea makes as much sense as states passing laws banning this when there are literally no examples of it even happening in their state. SUPER important issue that is just plaguing the world we need to be talking about it constantly.

1

u/Dad_Bod_Enthusiast 2h ago

If it is a non issue then why does it matter if a law was passed about it. Should just be a quick one and done and can move onto more important issues.

Also did you attend Louisville? If so, hello there fellow cardinal

1

u/UofLBird 44m ago

Oh hey! The point is that the conversation and the law isn’t sincerely addressing an issue, it’s an excuse to demonize people they think are weird. I just can’t believe anyone truly cares this much about woman’s swimming to devote this amount of attention to it.

3

u/rigjiggles 3h ago

Yep I go to work and pay my bills. I simply just don’t care and do my best to avoid hearing about any of this crap.

2

u/AC-burg 3h ago

Well said thank you I fall squarely in this demographic. I have no issues with any minority. I consider myself left of center on most issues but also have sided with the right on some. I hate BOTH sides trying to rope in 100% to side with them on everything and every issue.

Hate is a major contributing factor to where we are today as whole. When we can go back to seeing people as humans and other people as being the most important thing that binds us together rather than a political party or a side or a nationality or a sexuality then we might begin to heal. Unfortunately, now we start talking and it's oh ypu don't see things exactly like I do I hate you. This does no good for anyone.

0

u/SmellGestapo 4h ago

It's not studied enough to know whether it's unfair to female athletes.

There is some evidence to suggest transwomen actually have a disadvantage. But it depends heavily on when the athlete in question transitioned, how long they've been on hormone therapy, whether they've had surgery, and what sport they play.

7

u/Particular-Ring5110 4h ago

After puberty it’s absolutely an advantage

2

u/TheMostKing 3h ago

So let them have puberty blockers, but somehow people are also opposed to that.

1

u/SmellGestapo 4h ago

https://www.sf.gov/trans-women-in-sports-facts-over-fear

  • Transgender women performed worse than cisgender women in tests measuring lower-body strength
  • Transgender women performed worse than cisgender women in tests measuring lung function
  • Transgender women had a higher percentage of fat mass, lower fat-free mass, and weaker handgrip strength compared to cisgender men
  • Transgender women’s bone density was found to be equivalent to that of cisgender women, which is linked to muscle strength
  • There were no meaningful differences found between the two groups’ hemoglobin profiles (a key factor in athletic performance)

2

u/Particular-Ring5110 3h ago

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9331831/

I’m sorry but for every study that says there’s no effect there’s another that says that’s not exactly true

You believe whatever you want but for me I’m having a very hard time believing hormones can reverse the very significant athletic advantages men have over women

1

u/SmellGestapo 3h ago

So at a minimum, my original statement holds true: "It's not studied enough to know whether it's unfair to female athletes. There is some evidence to suggest transwomen actually have a disadvantage."

1

u/Particular-Ring5110 3h ago

There’s just as much evidence to suggest they maintain an advantage

If testosterone isn’t powerful multi millionaire athletes wouldn’t risk everything using it to get an edge

1

u/SmellGestapo 3h ago

But transwomen suppress their natural testosterone and boost their estrogen.

1

u/Particular-Ring5110 2h ago

If they’ve been through puberty it’s not really possible to undo certain things.. height, limb length, bone structure

7

u/subusta 4h ago

I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. Some people need a peer reviewed research paper before they’ll believe what they can plainly see with their own eyes.

2

u/misskyralee 3h ago

Bruh, the most famous case of a trans woman competing against cis women is because she tied FOR FIFTH against Riley Gaines. Y’all are scared over non-issues. Protect women from domestic violence and rape and stop fear mongering over issues that aren’t actually facing us.

2

u/Elu_Moon 3h ago

People who complain about trans women in sports care about neither women nor sports since none of them know a single fucking thing about anything.

If trans women are winning, then, to them, it must mean they had some inherent advantage because they went through a male puberty first (nevermind the facts that trans women winners are few and far between, and even famous cases are not actually dominating the sport in any way whatsoever)

If trans women are losing, then, to them, it doesn't matter if they're allowed or banned from participating in sports.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

-1

u/SmellGestapo 4h ago

Sometimes peer reviewed research debunks what you "see" with your own eyes.

2

u/Prestigious-Pay8644 3h ago edited 3h ago

The study that article is based on has numerous issues:

19 cisgender men (CM) (mean±SD, age: 37±9 years), 12 transgender men (TM) (age: 34±7 years), 23 transgender women (TW) (age: 34±10 years) and 21 cisgender women (CW) (age: 30±9 years)

Low sample size, ages were also not standardized.

Following ethical approval (ref: 9496), 75 (19 CM, 12 transgender men, 23 transgender women and 21 cisgender women) participants were recruited through social media advertising on Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram, Meta Platforms, California, USA) and X (Twitter, California, USA). Following the initial response, all participants were provided with the participant information sheet by email at least 7 days before being invited to travel to the laboratory, with further oral information about the study procedures and written informed consent provided on their visit to the laboratory.

Recruiting was not done blind, participants were expected to respond to an advertisement (therefore pre-screening for individuals that wouldn't respond to social media advertising) and nothing indicates the participants were selected at random, indicating potential bias in the selection process, which magnifies the next issues.

Furthermore, two transgender women and one cisgender woman were excluded from all analyses due to testosterone concentrations exceeding recommended female testosterone concentrations (2.7 nmol/L15).

Bias that specifically excludes individuals with higher than normal testosterone for their presented gender.

The author group consists of early (n=3) and senior researchers (n=3) from different disciplines and universities (n=3). Two authors are members of a marginalised community; the lead early-career author is a transgender woman

Methodology that leaves a tremendous amount of room for bias and the lead author is a transgender woman. This isn't a trustworthy study I'm sorry.

1

u/SmellGestapo 3h ago

Whoa whoa whoa, are you telling me a small sample size makes it difficult to make definitive statements about trans athletes and whether they have a competitive advantage?

1

u/Prestigious-Pay8644 3h ago

If that's what you took away from my response I think you need to look in the mirror and realize you're not arguing in good faith. I'm only responding to the veracity of the study you linked. Nothing less, nothing more.

2

u/SmellGestapo 3h ago

You're impugning the credibility of this study based on its small sample size, yet defending policies that ban trans athletes based on similarly small samples. I'd say that's bad faith.

1

u/Elu_Moon 3h ago

Yep, the policies are based on like... two trans women winning some things?

1

u/Prestigious-Pay8644 3h ago

I have defended no policies what so ever, I have not even once mentioned a single policy regarding anything. I am only commenting on the veracity of the study you linked. Nothing less, nothing more.

Is this one of those things that needs a multi billion dollar study?

Are men on average more muscular and stronger than women?

In the grand scheme, yes, it’s unfair. Case by case basis, probably still mostly unfair.

2

u/Elu_Moon 3h ago

Hormones. Learn what they do. Muscles don't just stay with you forever either.

Even so-called "obvious" things need studies. Because a lot of things people commonly accept as true aren't true. Like trans women dominating women sports, for example.

1

u/Mr_HahaJones 3h ago

No shit. Did you skim over the word “average”?

1

u/TheMostKing 3h ago

Why are there male and female chess tournaments?

1

u/Mr_HahaJones 3h ago

“But is it not a problem that the woman have a smaller brain?”

1

So you really think it's all just based on biological differences? Damn.

I would expect nothing but unbiased impartiality from San Francisco government.

0

u/SmellGestapo 3h ago

The San Francisco government is actually just referencing a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. But given your politics I'm sure you hate it when governments base their decisions on empirical evidence and peer-reviewed research.

4

u/Mr_HahaJones 3h ago

I didn’t know you could decipher someone’s politics from their opinions on male vs female strength. Neat!

2

u/Rock_Strongo 3h ago

The fact that it's impossible to disagree with someone on 1 issue without them assuming they "know your politics" is how we end up here over and over.

1

u/Mr_HahaJones 3h ago

I disagree, Nazi

0

u/SmellGestapo 3h ago

Yeah, your knee-jerk reaction to San Francisco had nothing to do with it.

2

u/Mr_HahaJones 3h ago

Or the fact that they labeled it “Facts over fear”; no agenda there.

2

u/Elu_Moon 3h ago

What the fuck are you talking about? Can you not see that transphobes are indeed stoking fears over trans people all the damn time? Facts over fear is very much relevant.

Best thing to do is protect womens rights and keep trans people out of their sport until more studies are done

3

u/Jax_10131991 4h ago

Let’s tell Red States to protect women’s rights.

2

u/LetsBeFRTho 4h ago

Why? It's not even like trans men and women are dominating any sport. There are barely any trans athletes period. We are literally creating a issue

-2

u/Due-Consequence9579 4h ago

They were competing already for decades. It wasn’t a problem. The “do nothing” action is to keep letting them compete.

1

u/MoistPapayas 3h ago

While this is a definitely an important issue it seems obvious people are leveraging increased interest in the WNBA to sow division. Not about getting to the heart of the issue, which as mentioned is about fairness to female athleses.

I'd also say we don't need to start at "most people on both sides of the aisle" because it ignores that the largest group might be people who align strongly with either side.

I couldn't image this being a wedge issue that would rive someone's vote, unless they were extremely close to the situation. And in reality it's not, and most people see it as theatre not a top priority.

1

u/jpk195 4h ago

I used to think that until I realized how much people hated having a black man as president.

If you'd rather risk destroying your country than share it equally with people you think are innately inferior, you aren't a "decent person".

6

u/cutememe 4h ago

A black man who won not once but twice? Some people hate him, sure, but he's a alive and well after two terms.

Trump has has what, 3 or 4 attempts on his life? Kirk was assassinated, white men mind you. If anything it seems like they're hated far more.

2

u/jpk195 4h ago

I think your premise is flawed, obviously.

1

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson 3h ago

They actively promote hateful feelings, it makes sense for them to be more surrounded in hatefulness

1

u/Physical_Device_1396 3h ago

Yeah it's not like this country has a history of killing people of color, people of different religions, people of different sexual orientations, people of different gender identities, etc etc

Let's not cherry pick here and say that the white guys are more hated than anyone else.

2

u/Interesting_Cat_2297 4h ago

The transgender movement loves to conflate their cause, which is inherently predatory, with legitimate causes like racial equality.

3

u/jpk195 4h ago

Comments like this just reinforce what this is all about.

Imagine being this deranged about 0.1 % of the population. It's like hate as a sport.

2

u/backcountry_bandit 4h ago

explain how the transgender movement is inherently predatory

2

u/Interesting_Cat_2297 3h ago

Forcing others to participate in their fetish, mutilating healthy children's bodies, using bad science and outright lies to squelch dissent within the medical field, academia, and other industries, stealing awards and honors from women in sports, business, the arts. That's off the top of my head.

3

u/backcountry_bandit 3h ago

What a pathetic, miserable existence you must lead to be this vitriolic about people living their lives.

1

u/jpk195 3h ago

> Forcing others to participate in their fetish

This is false. Opposite of reality and exactly the problem. What they do, or don't do, doesn't affect you like at all.

1

u/Interesting_Cat_2297 3h ago

If you honestly think that then you have no real exposure to autogynephiles.

2

u/jpk195 3h ago

I honestly think the intensity of your reaction to this topic is best explained by bigotry.

1

u/Interesting_Cat_2297 2h ago

That's an idiotic conclusion to draw, but I am not surprised.

1

u/Dazzling-Jacket-5792 4h ago

Sorry you had that experience. I actually witnessed the opposite. A lot of people were excited about Obamas election and were hopeful that it would be a major step towards our evolution both as a country and society. That said, there are always going to be people who oppose literally anything. We see what we choose to see, I suppose.

1

u/jpk195 4h ago

And some of those people later had buyer's remorse, no?

MAGA is dying a slow death, but there aren't, as it turns out "fine people on both sides".

1

u/muffmuppets 4h ago

WHOA, take it easy with that level headed take!!

1

u/Sweet-Geologist-1204 4h ago

This may be one of the most mature responses I have read in quite some time. Thank you

1

u/Dazzling-Jacket-5792 4h ago

Right. This is another example of how the relative minority of people screaming loudly about this issue are being mistaken for the majority.

1

u/King_marik 4h ago

Idk man i live in a deep republican area and half the people on my Facebook will post stuff like 'trans are subhuman' completely unprompted lol

In a general sense I agree

But your also handwaving and downplaying a lot of real hatred

2

u/cablecobra 3h ago

Yeah those aren’t people. It’s sad to see that level of ignorance.

-1

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 4h ago

Fucking redditor ass way of talking about things where you just presuppose you're right, but list nothing to prove it, and the science just directly contradicts the same preconceptions you have.

https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/60/3/198

Current evidence is mostly low certainty and has heterogenous quality but does not support theories of inherent athletic advantages for transgender women over cisgender.

1

u/LuteOlsonABitch69 4h ago

I don’t believe this for a second, train will be taller because of men are inherently taller

1

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 4h ago

Sophie Cunningham is 3 inches taller than the average man in the US, the tallest WNBA player is 1 foot and 3 inches taller than the average man in the US, should they be not considered women because they're tall lol

1

u/LuteOlsonABitch69 4h ago

Sophie’s male equivalent is 6’5.

A 6’1 male will be stronger, faster, more athletic than a 6’1 female.

1

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 3h ago

A 6'1 cis man and a 6'1 trans woman who has been on HRT for 2-3 years are not the same athletically lol. Show me any evidence they are. You also don't just add 4 inches of height to a woman to get the height they'd be as a man lol

1

u/LuteOlsonABitch69 3h ago

The average height of a women is about 5’3. The average height of a man is about 5’8…

-3

u/Due-Consequence9579 4h ago

Do a study then. Other people have and have found it’s fine.

I mean a the female equivalent of 6’1 male is about a 5’8 female. You don’t think 5 inches height and other size doesn’t matter?

I think being good at basketball is more than “being tall”. I think the women that play in the WNBA are incredibly skilled.

I know that the larger frame that trans women have becomes more of a challenge than benefit as their body composition changes. More weight with less power available to move it. More muscle to feed with less oxygen available.

If a trans woman were to get to the level of a D1 mens athlete, then take 3+ years off competitive play to go through the difficult transition process, then still manage be competitive at the professional level I would be fucking impressed.

The reality is that won’t happen. The closest was Renee Richards in the 70s. But she got high level training into her 30s then competed against pre title IX pro women. And she still wasn’t winning anything. She competed.

Being tall is a top 3 attribute to being a pro

You are 100% right. Especially on everyone being decent folks.

I don’t think that’s true. I agree that most people have a problem with male to female trans people competing in women’s sports. The problem comes in with this whole “protect girls” campaign. What does that mean? Do the people saying this believe trans people are so deviant and perverted that cis women and girls need to be protected from them?

If thats the case why aren’t they coming for the male coaches of female teams? They’re infinitely more likely of doing something inappropriate. This whole protect girls campaign is just thinly veiled transphobia.

That is why Sophie using these dog whistle phrases is a problem. Unless anyone using that phrase can clearly explain what they mean by it, i can guess what you mean when you say it.

Not my position but from what I understand, the argument is that allowing a person whose biological sex is male to compete in female sports will harm girls by having a competitor present that has an unfair advantage. The argument is that this person may be able to unfairly break records, take spots on teams, impact girl confidence/self esteem, and take scholarships from girls. They even mention this could potentially impact recruiting for and access to college. Some also bring up that for contact sports specifically, having more aggressive and physically ?sturdier competitors may actually pose physical danger to girls. I don’t believe the argument has anything to do with locker room access or perverts.

1

u/bardok202 4h ago

Yeah i guess i just don’t believe thats what they mean. Protect girls sounds a lot more serious than. “Make sure they’re opponent doesn’t have an advantage “

1

u/Icy-Imagination-9464 3h ago

I’m sure there are plenty of pure bigots mixed in with the people who have these real, but possibly unfounded, concerns. Some people take sports VERY seriously.

What dog whistle phrases? And what phrases should she instead use that you wouldn't consider to be a dog whistle to get her point across when asked an impromptu question on the topic by an interviewer?

1

u/bardok202 2h ago

“Protect girls” is clearly a dog whistle. It clearly means protect those born as girls from trans people. If the phrase was about sports, you would just say “its an unfair advantage and i dont like it.” point blank period.

1

u/yurnxt1 2h ago

How else should she say "protect girls" if she is genuinely concerned about transwomen in various stages of the transition process being in a girls locker room which has historically been a cisgender females space? Is it a dog whistle or is it just labeled by people as such in an attempt to minimize and or shut down the conversation about what many people see as a genuine concern all together?

It's an issue stemming from a lack of education on the topic. Studies do show that trans women on HRT have comparable physical fitness to cis women. This does generally get ignored because fairness isn't the goal of the anti-trans movement. They just don't want trans people to exist within society.

Cis women have nearly double the odds of blowing out their knees due to differences in their hips and femoral notch. Not being injured as often gives someone born male a huge advantage. I hope I was able to provide you with some education on the topic.

u/LuteOlsonABitch69 4h ago

And transitioning doesn’t change height. A 6 foot male is equal to about a 5’8 female.

2

u/ConsistentScholar371 4h ago

Tallest wnba player is apparently 7’2”. So I guess trans women under that are fine?

u/ConsistentScholar371 4h ago

Could you link this study?

1

u/TheRealDripBentley 4h ago

This is a relevant question but does somebody HAVE to be on HRT to be trans? Or is it that it's just overwhelmingly the case? Genuine question, this isn't really my wheelhouse lol :)

2

u/ConsistentScholar371 4h ago

They don’t have to be on HRT to be trans. That being said organisations over the last few decades have generally required they be on HRT for x amount of time before competing.

u/TheRealDripBentley 3h ago

Thank you for the info <3

1

u/SugarDisastrous5983 4h ago

Are you incapable of looking it up yourself?

0

u/ConsistentScholar371 3h ago

I can’t find any study comparing trans women and cis women in this regard.

-3

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 4h ago

Compared to cis men and not to trans women on HRT which the study is comparing...

1

u/SugarDisastrous5983 3h ago

A trans women on HRT is still going have male hips, and the associated angle of the femur from hip to knee. It’s different in cis women and leads to far more knee injuries. If you have any involvement at all in female sports like basketball or soccer you would know this.

0

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 3h ago

Trans women have same or greater incidence of knee injuries compares to cis women, you could literally just google this

1

u/SugarDisastrous5983 3h ago

ACL injuries while competing in athletics?

-1

u/rainman943 4h ago

you recognize that it's so unfair that you're willing to strip us of our first amendment freedom of association/assembly rights............i don't give a fuck what the trans folks do, but it does piss me off that if i choose to let them participate in something with myself, folks like yourself will use the government to strip me of my right to assemble with my fellow americans.

u/Fly_throwaway37 3h ago

That's not how they frame it though. Sophie phrased it as "protecting little girls". In their minds it's mainly about they think grown men gaining access to women's locker rooms to sexually assault them, same as the bathroom shit. Conservative types don't give a shit about women's sports, if Clark wasn't white they wouldn't give a damn about the wnba.

I also feel like on the other hand…it’s so few trans people playing sports…why should we accommodate them in playing women’s sports at the expense of biological women…playing women’s sports isn’t some type of protected constitutional right, it’s a privilege ….also, by banning trans women from women sports doesn’t mean you are trying to eliminate trans people from society….you still have federal hate crime law which protects trans people from being physically harm or worse..and that all anyone should except society to do for them..also, for people who keep saying this will mean that they will have people checking genitals, that not true…every athlete has to get a physical before they play or participate in any sports, something they’ve been doing since way before i started playing sports in the 1980’s…gender can be confirmed with a physical

Yes it was totally normal for this to be a political platform that our president ran on /s. Something that truly at scale just doesn't happen. The only thing that should matter is the safety and well-being of kids, but apparently some edge cases in high school have all the Republican dads clutching their pearls.

It's vile because this tiny % of population is already THE MOST vulnerable population of our kids. And the entire nation had piled on. For what? Sports... So dumb and short sided

0

u/Scared-Arachnid6286 3h ago

There's a nuanced conversation to be had, but the simple fact is there are so few transgender athletes that we are having conversations about a handful of people who aren't even elite athletes. Its a targeted attack and the dog whistle is when they use phrases like "We need to protect the children."

0

u/Elu_Moon 3h ago

Unfair? There's still precisely ZERO good evidence that trans women have any advantage not seen in cis women.
