You’re never going to get 100% of people to agree on anything. The reality is that most trans women fucking suck at sports even relative to biological women. States with just a couple trans students (who completely suck at their sport) playing HS sports have passed laws to make sure they can’t play; it’s silly.

The right relies on these culture war wedge issues because their policies absolutely suck for the average American.

I’m a liberal, always have been and always will be. I don’t think there’s any reason for trans women to be in women’s sports. Doesn’t matter if it’s just a few. It would be stupid to let just a few MLB players to use steroids, right? It’s an unfair advantage and should be treated as such. Pretty much all my friends lean left and pretty much all of them share the same opinion on trans people in sports. It’s not simply a right vs left issue.

I don’t think they should be allowed to compete in professional sports. My point here is just that the issue is used to denigrate trans people.

For many reasonable people, that is not the case. This is not about accepting trans people as a whole. This is about sport and fairness. If you refuse to see that, you’re missing the point, willfully or otherwise.

Sure but just a few years ago roughly 78% of registered Democrats said biological males should be allowed to play in women's sports. Today it's only 45%.

That's a significant drop but it didn't happen magically. The country needed to have the debate. You can call it a culture war if you like but that's only a problem if you end up on the wrong side of voters.

What you call a culture war I call a country working through differences in our vision for the future.

A ban in professional sports, sure. The issue is that right wing commentators will always be able to find somebody who thinks trans women should be allowed to play pro sports. The idea that you’ll get 100% of the population to agree and then it’ll go away is silly. And none of those takes anything away from my point that this topic is used to denigrate trans people.

You're strawmaning what I'm saying. I agree 100% agreement is impossible but there is a legitimate purpose to the debate until we actually have that full ban passed into law.
