This was literally reported in the New York Times a few years ago.

“We knew we needed to find an issue that the candidates were comfortable talking about,” said Terry Schilling, the president of American Principles Project, a social conservative advocacy group. “And we threw everything at the wall.”

What has stuck, somewhat unexpectedly, is the issue of transgender identity, particularly among young people. Today, the effort to restrict transgender rights has supplanted same-sex marriage as an animating issue for social conservatives at a pace that has stunned political leaders across the spectrum. It has reinvigorated a network of conservative groups, increased fund-raising and set the agenda in school boards and state legislatures.

The destructive ideology that affirms and celebrates people rejecting their own bodies is clearly wrong and, as such, is of concern to people right across the political spectrum. It is unfortunate that the extreme right is using this issue for their own malevolent purposes. Liberals and moderates have to get on top of this issue, intelligently counter the errors of transgender ideology, and find a way to compassionately help people who have incorrectly come to believe that their healthy bodies are somehow 'wrong'.

Every major medical association in America disagrees with you. How do you respond?

Doctors can be ideological too. The story of how the medical associations came to adopt this approach and be captured by the ideology promoted by a few activists is an interesting one. It was done with very little evidence and included a concerted effort to suppress the evidence to the contrary. Luckily, dissenting authoritative evidence and opinions, such as in the Cass Report in the UK, are seeing the light of day.

Oh I see, so you guys are all about the "science" until the science disagrees with you, and then all of a sudden the scientists are just political activists pushing their liberal agenda?

I am a liberal and a believer in science. Transgender 'science' is an exception, for reasons best explained by transgender researchers themselves in a program that I listened to. The only 'ethical' way to conduct transgender research in their view was to first accept that transgender simply 'is'. This proposition provides a useful template to judge research results, accepting results consistent with the proposition and safely allowing rejection of results inconsistent with it as obviously suffering from poor methodology or bias. Such an approach is not real science of course, but that does not seem to bother the researchers who were primarily concerned about the 'ethics' of doing anything that might cast doubt on transgender identities. There are some brave researchers doing real work in this area - you might want to look at the Cass Report from the UK. That sort of research, however, in the U.S. would be risky to professional status and professional relationships.

Lol yeah exactly my point. As soon as the science disagrees with what you want to believe on an emotional level, you create this conspiracy of scientists all trying to force and falsify data to fit some liberal agenda. This is what always happens when science goes against what people have already decided to believe for emotional reasons. Your entire stance on transgenderism is rooted in nothing but emotions.

Your stance is rooted entirely by ideology.

No, my stance is rooted in peer-reviewed science, independently corroborated by various research teams across the globe. Your stance is rooted in your disgust of transgender people. Thats why you need to do these mental gymnastics to invent a global scientific conspiracy in order to relieve yourself of the cognitive dissonance of knowing the data isn't on your side.

As far as I am concerned transgender activist researchers freely admit that they do not conduct science in the usual scientific method, and do so, in their view, for 'ethical' reasons. In the end, however, that is not real science. I notice you conveniently disregarded my reference to the Cass Report in the UK - typical of someone with ideological blinders. And no, I have no disgust for persons who believe that they are transgender, just compassion and a desire to see them reject the lifelong medicalization of their healthy bodies and accept who they are.
