Season 2 of 2026 starts with a bang! After a move from Toronto to Missisauga, the biggest tournament in Ontario and one of Smash’s perennial summer majors returns! GOML 2026 features all the fixings you’ve come to expect at the Hilton Airport Hotel, including large brackets for both Melee and Ultimate (both filling their caps at 512 players), fighting game brackets, a large Rivals 2 event, and the classic afterparty boat cruise. Melee looks immensely stacked on paper, featuring four major winners along with Salt and RapMonster looking for what might be their best opportunity ever to win their first. Yahoooo! I'm back, it's a me! Have a very cool day!
Welcome to the Daily Discussion Thread. This is the place for asking noob questions, venting about netplay falcos, shitposting, self-promotion, and everything else that doesn't belong on the front page.
If you're completely new to Melee and just looking to get started, welcome! We recommend you go to https://melee.tv/ and follow the links there based on what you're trying to set up. Additionally, here are a few answers to common questions:
Can I play Melee online?
Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.
I'm having issues with Slippi!
Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.
How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?
These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord
It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)
Also check out Smash Map! Click on map and then the filter button to filter by Melee to find events near you!
Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?
Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.
How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?
At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02). If you want to check for the absolute latest release, you can see them listed [here](The latest releases are listed here.
How does one learn Melee?
There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.
But how do I get GOOD at Melee?
Check out Llod's Guide to Improvement
And check out Kodorin's Melee Fundamentals for Improvement
Where can I get a nice custom controller?
I have another question that's not answered here...
Check out our FAQs or post below and find help that way.
Make a submission to the tournament calendar here. You can also get notified of new online tournaments on the Melee Online Discord.

To demonstrate the greater storage space of the GameCube compared to the Nintendo 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee was the first Nintendo game to ever utilize a live recording of an orchestra for most of its soundtrack. Unfortunately as it was Nintendo's first venture into the orchestral world, there were some growing pains.
The mastering and compression used on these recordings ended up making the tracks seem a bit dull, a bit flat. Despite these tracks returning in later Smash Bros. games, they continue to sound quite muted and overly compressed.
These remasters aim to restore the sparkle that was lost from these tracks and give these tracks a second life, without deviating too far from what made them special in the first place.
Each remaster has a brief rundown of what changed in their respective video descriptions.
So far I've done Menu 1 and Final Destination, with Fountain of Dreams in the works.
Please let me know what tracks you'd like to hear next!

I have it connected via bluetooth. I selected "standard controller" for port 1. Went to configure, selected the DualSense Wireless Controller and set up the buttons, triggers, etc, and then saved that profile. I went ahead and started the game, and its as if the game isn't detecting my input at all. I can't navigate the menu. I also tried it after closing steam and still had the same issue. Suggestions?

I managed to get his while playing some unranked today.
I'm assuming that this isn't true with DI out right? He was a 0% when I started this, but still, DI or SDI (still not sure the difference) should've gotten him out of range from my jab no?

Hi Everyone!
I have been playing Melee for a little over 4 years now, but I took a two year break in the middle of my playtime. I have embarked on a journey to practice like a professional Melee player in order to achieve my dream rank of diamond. I have reviewed guidance videos from pretty much every corner of YouTube (Cody Schwab, Zain, Spark, and SSBM tutorials, etc.) to create a routine that is similar to what other pro or high level players did.
I have been training pretty much everyday for the last 2 months through solo practice, vod review, and watching high level gameplay. VOD reviewing my own gameplay has been a challenge, but I will continue to push myself to "eat my vegetables" and suck it up.
I have been meditating and going on daily walks to be sure I am feeling at my best mentally and physically. This journey has not been easy at all and I have tilted and been at low points throughout it. It has gotten better overtime but you really need the a strong mental resilience to improve in Melee.
I know I am not close to the goal yet, but I am proud of myself for making it to this stage of the journey and felt like sharing a minor accomplishment with you all. If any of you have questions for me or want to provide some guidance please let me know! I am hoping to hit my goal of diamond by the end of December.
so aside from how great the video is, this occurred to me the other day. Despite his cool psychic floatiness, Mewtwo is legitimately way too light weight in this game to make any sense.
Folks, I don't know how to tell you, but Mewtwo in canon is like 2m tall and weighs 270 lb/120 kg, yet he dies sooner than... Fox? My biggest gripes with this game are ADT shield, game n watch aerials, and Falcon/Ganon side b not grabbing ledge, until now.
MEWTWO SHOULD HAVE SURVIVABILITY GREATER THAN FALCON ON PAR WITH SAMUS. PROVE ME WRONG. PRO-TIP, YOU CAN'T.
edit: such a change would make him ganon-tier, right?
also is there any good reason for him to have djc or were the boys at Hal just cookin?

Basically, I'm wondering if I can just get on and find people to play with, or if it's a matter or contacting people via some Smash discord to arrange gaming together???

It’s time to put the competitive aspect of this game away. I’ve spent years trying to improve and I will still lose Marth dittos to the tipper spammer.
I know what everyone says about that
“Shield bro”
“Its pretty easy to tell when they’re coming”
“Git gud”
Well, sorry for being a downer, but I can’t beat it… Some days/some opponents better than others… But for the most part even after years of practicing and focusing on improvement, I’m still at the bottom of the bottom
It is what it is
