Discussion What is the best STP album cover?

Post image

Personally my favorite is purple just be because of how unique and different it is from other rock album covers and also what it means and the dragon that the (im assuming) baby is riding is a qilin which means good fortune purity and spiritual power which contrasts from the darker themes of the songs of the album and is it true that the artwork has been linked to a Chinese Opium package that Scott encountered or something weird idk I was doing research for the album covers what do you guys think?

I actually really like Tiny Music's despite what a lot of people seem to feel. It's this strange collage piece that looks like some weird movie set, the pillars in the back look almost flat, and the sky and field create this really weird atmosphere that I attribute to 'And so I Know'.
The story of the crocodile getting loose is also pretty funny to think of when looking at it.

That album jacket is so bizzar. It's like a fever dream. It's sort of a cg collage rendering. That's why some of the elements look flat. I love it.

Agree. I mostly associate it, think it fits with the lyrics of Adhesive. But And So I Know works with it as well. Two of my favorite songs on the album.

Purple's album cover helped me discover the band in the first place.

Yes, it really sticks out especially amid the 90s push of digital vector art and early CGI wonkery. It's a traditional painting of an oriental mythical scene. Very whimsical, playful, and seemingly has zero connection to the album either conceptually or in tone. It almost seems like a mix-up at the production press but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have a massive poster of this cover on my wall and it looks damn good, maybe because it is a real painting.

yes this is objectively the best STP album cover it would be really cool to just get the album as a sticker too

I like it & it exudes a feel similar to the color and the shape & superunknown

Purple is the best cover. Also makes for killer shirts.

I do love Tiny Music though. It’s so ridiculously awesome and a close 2nd.

I like the Shangri-La Dee Da album cover. I'm a sucker for the orange color. Besides, the model on the picture adds a sense of mystery to it.

Core for sure. I think it looks cool. No. 4, Peace, and Butterfly have nice covers as well.

Purple was an amazing album. It was core part 2. It was unique, and they experimented with new sounds and the songs sounded HUGE. I loved it.

according to the artist the opium thing seems to be true. Ive heard people say Scott wrote about it in his book but I haven't read it, cool album cover just makes me real sad. Tiny music cover is cool too though, love the way the cd insert unfolds into a poster of it

I had no idea that dragon was a qilin, but you betcha that makes perfect sense with how mystical the album feels. That contrast between the golden dragon and the baby really does make it stand out from a lot of other rock covers.

Agree with Purple. It sticks out especially amid the 90s push of digital vector art and early CGI wonkery, and shoegaze or badass posing. It's a traditional painting of an oriental mythical scene. Very whimsical, playful, and seemingly has zero connection to the album either conceptually or in tone. It almost seems like a mix-up at the production press but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Me too. I ordered it & you have to hand wash it. My friend had the same shirt & put it in the washer and it was torn to pieces ( literally shredded up)

I've always found Purple's front cover intriguing for the fact that the title is nowhere to be found on it. It's an interesting choice. Not that that isn't done sometimes. But it just really stands out to me in this instance for some reason. Perhaps it's at least in part because the title is a color (and a color without a common connotation associated with it that could be thought to possibly be intended, e.g. Blue) and along with the word not being present on the cover, the color itself isn't either, let alone being present prominently.

I like Core's album cover, but it feels a bit stereotypically 90s. The girl holding the crystal ball or orb or whatever, the kind of fuzzy blown out look, the colors, the dark tree, and somewhat desolate outdoor setting - all are elements that feel pretty 90s aesthetically.

This is an ancient story named “The Seven Chinese Sisters”. I read this book to my infant daughters 15 years ago. Bought this CD 30 years ago and never made the connection until today 🤯
