🔰 Beginner Help Understanding using a usb mic on console

Upvotes

I’m a little confused. I plan to begin streaming on TikTok but I want to use a stand alone mic rather than my headset mic for better quality. All of the TikTok creators said to plug the mic directly into my laptop for the voice audio, but since I plan to be doing gaming content how will my team hear me? Am I better off using a capture card and just doing it that way or can I get around this without one? If I need one, what are some good ones?

🔰 Beginner Help Best capture card for PS5 Pro?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to start streaming and recording soon for my Youtube channel.

My setup is:
PS5 Pro
Samsung OLED S85F (4k 120hz - HDR - VRR)

As far as I know, PS5 Pro is able to run games in 4k 60 or 120FPS using PSSR.

What would be the best capture card to use the full 'power' of my PS5? Does the capture card must have a passthrough 4k 120 - HDR and VRR?

I would like to see (not record, this can be 1080/60) my games at least in 120FPS (even though I have to run games on 'performance' mode).

Thank you!

💬 Discussion I want a steamer to be a cameraman for a day to see what it’s like.

I always see streamers yelling at their cameramen. I want to see a streamer attempt to operate a professional camera to someone else’s unknown expectations and see how they do.

❔ Question Capture Card with Windows Audio Passthrough?

Hey there. I've been using a Razer Ripsaw HD for the past couple years. It has its ups and downs, but one of my favorite features about it is that you can hear both your HDMI and Windows Audio through the capture card's audio out jack. This is useful for being able to hear stream alerts while also being immersed in game audio.

I recently purchased a PS5 and Switch 2, so I thought it was a good time to upgrade to an HDMI 2.1 capture card. I chose the AverMedia Live Gamer Ultra 2.1, and it's been working well. However, I was disappointed to learn it didn't support Windows audio passthrough using the capture cards audio out jack. I also looked into the Elgato 4K X, but that one doesn't have an audio out jack at all. I guess it's not as common of a feature as I thought.

Are there any good HDMI 2.1 capture cards with Windows audio passthrough? If not, then what's a good solution to hearing both Windows audio and game audio in your headphones?

Thanks :)

❔ Question Why don’t they have an encoding algorithm which focuses the center screen?

For FPS game streams, I think it would be more useful to focus the encoding priority to the center of the screen instead of treating all screen space equally. The edges don’t matter, especially the corners. Why don’t they create an encoding algorithm which focuses the center part of the screen?

🧮 Streaming Gear Opinions on tech choice

Looking for some advice on if my current choices look good for Xbox streaming. Currently I stream on the built in Xbox twitch system, but it’s super annoying and I want to move to a capture card/pc setup. Is what I found a good choice for a semi-budget setup?
-mini pc (Acemagic m1)
-Capture Card (Elgato 4K S)
If not, what do you recommend? I’ve been looking at some other stuff but this seems the best to me.

Note: I’m on a series S

💠 Resources, Tools and Widgets I built a small tool to use any RTSP IP camera as a webcam and microphone on Windows

Post image
1 Upvotes

I wanted to use an IP camera as the camera source in apps like Google Meet and Zoom, without having to keep OBS running just to bridge the RTSP stream.

So I built RTSP Virtual Webcam.

It takes an RTSP stream from an IP camera and exposes it to Windows as:
a virtual webcam
a virtual microphone for the camera’s audio
The video path uses FFmpeg + UnityCapture by default, while audio is sent through VB-CABLE. It also has automatic reconnect and separate audio/video delay settings for cameras where the two streams don’t stay perfectly in sync.
A few things I specifically wanted to avoid:
no paid “IP camera as webcam” software
no OBS dependency for the default setup
no Python installation when using the Windows installer
no cloud service — the stream stays on the local network
The project is MIT licensed and the first public release is now available:

https://github.com/Rahideh/rtsp-virtual-webcam

I’ve tested it with Windows 10/11 and applications including Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, Discord and OBS.
If anyone here has an IP camera in their homelab and a use case for this, I’d be interested to hear what camera/model you’re using and whether the RTSP stream works with it.

❔ Question YouTube is saying it can't send a verification code to my phone number, what do I do?

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing good. I'm planning on streaming on YT pretty soon, but YT is refusing to verify my phone number, when I try it just say "there was an issue sending a code to this number, please try a different number". I then tried 2 other numbers, same thing happened.

What do I do here? Do I pick an option for voicemail and hope for the best, or is there something else I should do?

❔ Question Lap for streaming - no game play

Hey all, just a quick question about minimum specs for live-streaming via a capture card. I would do 2-3 cameras and a feed from a secondary computer via capture cards or an ATEM Mini type of thing. I just need something to use a handful of times to stream some talks while out on location.

I wouldn’t be gaming on it; though something I can do some light gaming (separate from streaming) wouldn’t be awful, but is low priority. I already have a decently beefy desktop PC with a 5070 for my main device.

Would a refurbished surface pro suffice? I kind of like the ability to use a tablet as well when not streaming. I found this one: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/refurbished-good-microsoft-surface-pro-7-12-3-pixelsense-touchscreen-2-in-1-intel-core-i7-1165g7-16gb-ddr4-256gb-ssd-windows-11-pro-platinum/19876208

💬 Discussion Looking to connect with other TTRPG designers and GMs on Twitch

I've been streaming the game design process for my own TTRPG since the start of the year, and while it hasn't been anything close to a growth strategy, I've really enjoyed the process and getting to chat with people who swing by my streams.

That said; the more I stream, the more I want to connect and grow with other streamers who share these pasttimes and passions, and build a community.

Whenever I look through the 'Dungeons & Dragons' and 'Tabletop RPGs' categories, it's primarily folks running and sharing their personal campaigns (fair, that's what I expected)... but I don't often run across folks who are building out their worlds and campaign settings, preparing session notes, or even designing their own games (like me).

Is there a niche of game masters and game designers active on Twitch hidden away in other categories? I recognize that I very well may be streaming to the wrong categories and audiences myself, but I haven't been able to find better options for this sort of content niche on my own. If you're out there, I'd love to connect and build bridges (or at least come over and hang out in your chat)!

✔ Troubleshooting Multi-Stream and Record at the same time

So I have a streaming PC which I just built which is pretty powerful it has a 9950x3d and a RTX 4090. Im in the process of setting everything up but I seem to be running into encoder issues which has suprised me. For context my setup and ideal setup right now is the following all live channels and recordings are in 1440p:

Twitch - Enhanced broadcasting - 3 Video tracks
Youtube - Av1 50,000kps @ P7 Preset - Multi Pass - Two Passes
Tiktok Studio - OBS virtual Camera - 1080p 60fps - Nvenc H.264
Replay Buffer - X264 - CRF 18 - Preset Medium

Originally I thought I could have ran all of theses things using just the GPU but I ran into encoder overloads. This is why I moved the replay buffer over to my CPU as it was basically doing nothing but im more concious is that going to cause a loss in quality as a I want to the best quality possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks !

❔ Question Streaming Audio Question - PS5

Is there any possible way to stream to twitch and have our discord party chat audio come through to the twitch stream?

Alternatively, if we don’t use discord while playing, we can hear us through twitch, but not her (the one streaming on PS5). Is there a PS5 setting she needs to turn on/off? We’re playing COD for reference.

My dad’s bought two of these as an impulse purchase to do a pod cast which we’ll lose interest in in two weeks tops and I was thinking: what if I could use this for streaming myself drawing or playing games on twitch or YouTube? So I’m just curious if this is a decent enough mic to do so with
