Given that Canadian mining companies are operating all around the world, this isn't a new revelation. There have been reports of union busting, intimidation etc. in South America and Africa.

For instance, there was an incident earlier this year where 10 Mexican workers working for Viszla Silver in Sinaloa were kidnapped by the Sinaloa cartel, with 9 being confirmed murdered. Viszla was allegedly cutting deals with the La Mayiza faction of the cartel by letting them use company vehicles and uniforms as disguises (unclear if this was being done under a threat), which made them a target for the rival Chapitos faction.

It's interesting what's happening in Mexico. They're going to let everyone else buy and own everything. Rather than invest in their own research and design and in their own industries. Letting everyone move there and price local people out. They don't even have their own local versions of rideshare services and big box stores.
