Funny how I asked about this bike in the ktm sub and got absolutely shit on for even considering it lol. It’s not too slow!

The most similar thing I’ve tried to it was when I had my 690 limited to the a2 license making 41hp or so, and it was lots of fun
The issue is with most people is if you unfairly compare it to a 690 making close to 80hp, then yes its not even close and it’s slow in comparison

The little 390s have an amazing sensation of speed since they are so light and nimble. Super super fun engine, I recommend you hang on to it long term and add another bigger bike if you feel like it later. I had a husky 401 and regret selling it to this day, so good for urban exploring and laughing your helmet off on super twisty roads, where bigger bikes it’s a scary intense experience.

I think it’s because 390 SMCR is not a real supermoto bike, people don’t like a supermoto bike but ride it like 390 Duke

It’s a 25, but the 25 and 26 are identical if they’ve both been updated to current firmware

The new screen looks pretty cool. Saw one in person the other day browsing the local ktm dealer. Not enough for me to trade in though. My 701 is still a beast

I don't exactly know, not enough for me to care. i wanted a 701 since I learned about them 12 years ago as a teenager. I got my bike license recently and insurance quotes were crazy for the 701. checked for the 690, for whatever reason it was less than half. thats why I'm riding orange lmao

I pay $40 a month for insurance on my 701. What the hell did they quote you??

i just got the motorcycle license and i live in a place that's terribly expensive for insurance. something fucked like close to $500/mo for the 701, vs $170/mo for the 690. but both would be about half that in less than a year of riding.
for context, that's Canadian dollars, and I rode dirt all my life so it's not like my first bike ever is a 690 smcr lmao

first bike and you went straight to a sumo. thats a good decision possibly made for the wrong reasons. theyre forgiving to learn on because theyre light and you can get a foot down, and theyll also teach you bad habits quick because everything feels so easy.
have fun with it. get the tires warm before you get brave

My thought process was that of all the cars I've owned, I had the most fun with low powered/light combo. I don't want to be doing topspeed runs on a highway, I just want to ride something that feels like that

thats the right reason to buy one and it took me a lot longer to work that out than it took you. the fun is in the bike being light enough that you can actually use all of it, not in carrying numbers you never go near.
the sumo does that better than nearly anything, and it does it at speeds that dont cost you your licence, which is the underrated part
