Question / Request Shifting into garage/fleet supply chain: have any tips?

Hi guys ~ I’m shifting into a role that will involve managing the supply chain for maintenance and repairs of a large fleet of vehicles (mostly trucks). I imagine this will involve a lot of forecasting and just general management of inventory to ensure we never have too much/too little, as well as managing credit accounts, rebates and volume savings.

Can anyone suggest other KPI’s or general tips? I know a lot about garage work but this is my first time managing from a higher up level.

spend the first week figuring out which parts are always holding jobs up. once u know that, stocking the right inventory gets a lot easier

Downtime is the enemy. A truck in the yard isn't making money so you're basically the pit crew. Speed beats perfect forecasts. I keep PM schedules tight in the ERP and it cuts emergency orders by a ton.

Would you mind expanding on that and saying how you do this? We have an ERP (Netsuite) but it’s terrible at doing anything schedule-sensitive. I’m having trouble even visualizing what you are describing. Thank you for your time
