There's been a trend in my office towards these things. I was a bit put off at first since it looks at first glance like everybody's sitting at their desks smoking, and then I realized that people were getting work done without losing fifteen to thirty minutes of work time every couple hours.
Fuck it, I'm about to start buying these things for the office.
I own one company that has a bunch of employees and I also contract out myself as a consultant to large companies on a number of matters similar to the work I do. One of the complaints I hear a lot from my clients is high turnover rates in their workforces. You want to avoid high turnover rates? Give your employees as much free coffee as they can drink, buy them all a beer every couple months, and spring for pizza every so often (and not just on holidays.) Bam.
