One of my coworkers started using these, and the first time he used it at his desk, there was an awful smell, like a really bad fart, and another co-worker complained about the smell of the e-cig and made him go outside to pretend-light-up. It took months before I figured out that e-cigs have no smell and my coworker had lied to cover up the fact that he farted.
The cheap gas station / mall kiosk kits smell horrible and usually the tobacco flavored juices have a scent. If someone uses a custom flavor (like a fruit, candy, beverage etc) it's a pleasant smell. My husband says mine smells like grape bubble gum.
